nice step by step write up, I'm thinking about gettin the no-slip for my 8.25. i didnt notice and shims in the rear, have you checked gear mesh?

What an old thread! Just wanted to give an update on that powertrax no-slip locker... I put ~100,000 miles on it over the last 9 years wheeling regularly and flogging it good on 35s for most of that time. Broke just about every part on a dana30 you can break during that time and this locker never had any issues! Worked just like day one up until I sold this truck a few months ago. 

 

If you're looking for a lunchbox style auto-locker I would absolutely recommend this one.
