IRO OTK steering

Recommended Posts

I like that it is OTK and it seems to be pretty beefy, I also like how it uses heims instead of typical TRE's. And it appears as though I won't have to move my swaybar mounts or my trackbar. What do you guys think of this kit? Anyone on hear running this setup?

Heims are open and attract dirt, which greatly accelerates wear. They are great for specialized applications such as racing, but not recommended for general duty such as street driving. They also are less than ideal for a veicle that will be running in dirty conditions -- i.e. off road. Racing teams figure on replacing them after every race (or two). For the rest of us, TREs are a better choice.

Are you referring to this one? I am not at all a fan of mounting heim joints in single shear. Even less of a fan of mounting two heim joints in single shear with one bolt. There is just way too much leverage on the steering system for me to feel comfortable with that set up.

:huh???:

I've never seen a system where the drag link crosses under the other tie rod like that.

I'm guessing it works (or else they wouldn't be selling it), but it sure is different.

Yes, that is the kit I was referring to, except in the 5/8ths version they sell. What attracted me to this kit was the OTK tie rod for clearance and the fact that it doesn't look like you need a whole lot of fab work as far as moving the track bar and sway bar mounts to make it work. But I agree, it is different to have the drag link cross the tie rod.
