camjeep3 Posted November 27, 2009 Share Posted November 27, 2009 ok. so I'm ordering some 4.56 gears and what not for the truck, now I'm just wondering what else i need to do in order to install the gears? should i buy an axle overhaul? just certain bearings? there is alot of info out there its just not so clear it seems :???: i will be doing the same thing with my d30 front. also will the stock spring plates(things with shockmounts) work after the soa?( I'm not using the stock spring mount if it does work) i think thats all for now :dunno: thanks for all the help! and hopefully she will be on the road soon! mvusse Posted November 28, 2009 Share Posted November 28, 2009 If you don't know what all you need to do it, you'd be better off paying a professional drive train shop to do it. redneck23ms Posted November 29, 2009 Share Posted November 29, 2009 its best to get a master install kit for each axle when you install new gears. that way you have new bearings and shims etc. the stock mj spring plates won't work since the 8.8 has larger tubes than any axle the came stock in a mj. i used the stock explorer plates when i put an 8.8 in mine. you'll need to come up with some sore of shock mounts too.
