88mjmanche Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 i just replaced my clutch and i got the flywheel reserfised and when i put it all back together it made a weird chirping squeel sound then it whent away after like 5 mins of driving it went away whats up with that??? do you guys know
Geonovast Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 The Jeep flywheels have a slight taper to them. Getting them resurfaced will cause the clutch to not engage quite right. Not a good idea to resurface your flywheel. You'll need a new one.
88mjmanche Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 why was it a bad idea the old flywheel had burn marks and high and low spots it needed to be reserfaced
Geonovast Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Resurfacing gets rid of the taper. IIRC new replacements are not that expensive.
Oizarod115 Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 if it quit making noise and seems to work properly then just ride man. can't diagnose something that's not broken  be glad to help if it starts makin it again or the clutch has weird engagement or anything like that.
Eagle Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 The factory surface manual specifically states that the flywheel cannot be resurfaced, it has to be replaced. As noted, it is not flat ... it has a slight taper, and resurfacing eliminates the correct profile. You need a new flywheel.
88mjmanche Posted November 13, 2009 Author Posted November 13, 2009 the sounds gone now so it must have burned in and is worken fine
88mjmanche Posted November 24, 2009 Author Posted November 24, 2009 now the clutch is making a chatering sound its very quite but still its there. its olny when i don't push in the clutch , when my foot is on the clutch no sound. any answers or tips to fix :???:
kar120c Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Improperly surfaced flywheel, bad pressure plate, oil/grease/dirt can all cause clutch chatter. My guess is the latter since it was machined. Did you also replace the throwout bearing? When they go out they can make similar noise. Since you are probably going to need to open her back up, I'd replace the throwout bearing (if you haven't already, they are fairly cheap) and buy a new flywheel.
88mjmanche Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 yup new throw out bearing i think it needs to be blead again
Oizarod115 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 bleeding it won't change the noise if it's doing it when the clutch is fully released.
