Lenard
this is nothing bout jeeps, but the 1963 IH grain truck with a 304 V8 that we been using to haul beans, got parked on a down hill slop last night, and the gas from the front tank siphoned into the engine, i checked oil this morning and nothing on the dip stick, so i poured a quart in and all sudden heard something draining, looked underneath and there was gas just pouring out of the back of the engine :fs1: so i drained the oil out, the engine holds around 7qts, so put that into a 5gal bucket and fill it up the rest of the way with gas plus 1/2 a gallon i spilled and that is what came out of the engine. so i changed filter and oil, and took all the plugs out, and squirted just a little oil down each cylinder, started up good and ran fine, know the truck actually has some oil pressure! but the oil still comes out the back of the engine at a pretty good rate, pretty sure RMS is out. I'm just very thankful i checked it this morning otherwise i could of easily torn the engine all to hell, or burn the truck down with 300 bushel of beans on it. Eagle
Interesting. The gas in the crankcase must have cleaned out all the residual sludge that was sealing the RMS.

Lenard
howd you get gas in the block?? the truck has a mechanical fuel pump which runs off of the vacuum system, and it got parked facing down hill and shut off, but the fuel just kept running through the line, you know how siphoning works right? that's basically what happened. it just set there went threw the carb and went on down to the block... i think :brows:

mopwrd340
the float in the carb should have stopped the flow of fuel into the engine i have seen mecanical fuel pumps leak past the diaphram and let fuel in the engine something you might want to check
