pwrliftin Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I'm thinking about getting a 3" lift for my 86. I don't do anything crazy, just normal mudding and stuff. Do i need anything else besides the kit?(4shocks, cprings, add a leaf)
Eagle Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Longer front and rear brake hoses. At 3" you really should get an adjustable track bar. A 3" lift will pull the front axle about 1/2" to 5/8" off-center toward the driver's side of the chassis.
pwrliftin Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 which kit are you looking at? right now I'm looking at hell creek or rough country. theyre both priced pretty close. I'm still not sure if I'm gunna do it since i still only have the 2.5 i4
Pete M Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 the 2.5L isn't a problem. Just don't go bigger than a 31" tire. 30" would be better. Do you know what gearing you have in your axles? if not, which transmission do you have? For a 3" kit, I recommend longer lower control arms and an adjustable track bar. If you're short on cash, you could do a 1.75" puck up front and an AAL in the rear. Over 2" and you start to affect the geometry of the front suspension pieces.

Pete M Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 if you've got the 5sd AX-5, then you're likely (but not guaranteed) to have 4.10 gears in them. and that goes a long way to living with bigger tires. the bigger the tire, the wussier your engine will feel.
