D30 difficulties.

Recommended Posts

we (my brother and i) have a slight problem..

Dana 30 front axle 3.55 gears

origionally 242 t-case with non vacuum disconnect (1990 model year)

the diff has locked up in reverse.

with the tire jacked up it can be spun forwards but turn it backwards at all and it stops completely. with the heep in reverse itll drag a tire until you stop.

NO probelms forwards.

¿que pasa?

thanks,

nick

he opened up the diff today, and there was maybe a teaspoon of fluid, and a whole lot of gunk

brake cleaner, engine degreaser, nothin cleaned it but 5 dollars at a pressure washer.

ring&pinion appears okay, but the problem persists.

the bolt holding the spider gears in is missing? (factory sealed diff never been opened) and he couldnt get the spider gears out.

went in reverse and neither tire would move.. eventually got it to go backwards

drove a little forwards later and the front tires suddenly stopped completely and just dragged for a minute then it grenaided. still no damage to R&P?

whaaat in the hell is going on?

(if the info sucks thats cause my bro told it all to me on the phone cause he's sleepin in the car at work :ack: )

thanks for the help,

nick

There's no bolt holding the crossshaft in because it's likely a rollpin.

Sounds like your toasted the spider gears, you're lucky if that's the only damage.

well the lucky part is hes already got a appointment for his gears and lockers at the local shop in lesss than a month so its not that big a deal.

we've decided to pull the shafts and leave the stubs and just wait for it.

thanks for the help & stuff.
