I was wondering what the opinion on shocks is.

I've got a 1990 Comanche Long Bed 4.0

I am using it to tow a 21 foot bass boat.

It seems to drop quite a bit when I put the trailer on.

I have no idea how old the shocks are.

Any thoughts on the best shocks for my situaton?

theres a few different types of helpers, and i havent really messed with them much.

hopefully someone will chime in that has more experience with them.

I would 2nd the air bags as helper springs, with you towing a boat, the advantage of the air bags is you can increase the air pressure with the tow load, and when your done towing, air down the bags to give you a more comfort ride.

Plus some of the "add" on helper springs don't work that will, and put alot of added stress on your 20 year old tired leafs  I've seen leafs broken from helpers, and seen help springs also break.

The cost of the air bags are under $90, with out the OBA system, and the advantage is you can take them off and transfer them to another MJ if your replace your current one.

I'd track down a new set of Metric Tonne springs.

We have those for sale.

We are also introducing add-a-leaves specifically made for Comanches. They are basically main leaves without the eyes. We are also introducing the longer second stage leaves from the Metric Tonne springs to add to your existing spring pack above the standard second stage leaf. These would practically convert your existing springs into a Metric Tonne set.
