Pete M
So yesterday, the first day in months since I last got to drive my Dakota R/T, I blew out one of rear tires on a piece of debris in the road. Cut the sidewall up nice and good. :fs1: It took a loooong time to find them (Goodyear Eagles in the 275/60/r17 flavor to match the stock front 255/55r17s) but even after installation, they just weren't big enough to give that drag racer look (only about 30.5x10.5). I've found a set of 265/60/17s, but those are even smaller, though only slightly. Anyone know of any large street tires that would go on a 17" rim? 32" would probably fit, maybe even a bit larger seeing as the suspension has like 2" of uptravel. BPB
no way will a 32 fit i had a 2000 dakota quad car 4x4 and it ad 31 10.5 r 15 and I couldn't even run cable chains. that 5.9 sure rips though...... get a jet stage 2 on it and it is a new animal!! JeffK
The biggest thing Tire Rack show's in a street tire is a 275/65R16. The OD is 31.1 and the section width is 11.1 They carry it in a Kumho Road Venture APT KL51 ($121) and a Pirelli Scorpion STR ($168) both are 'H' rated. Anything larger or wider in a 17" seems to be AT tread.

In the front? no way. I've had 31" BFG ATs up there and it rubs quite a bit. In the rear? I measure that it'd be tight, but 32s would clear the flares. :D Anything larger or wider in a 17" seems to be AT tread. Yup, that's the problem I seem to be having. :( I'm just not willing to sacrifice the R/T rims for to big tire look.
Pete M
Too bad the smallest these come for a 17" rim is 285/60 (33x11"). :brows:
JeffK
Tire direct shows a Toyo Proxes in 285/60R17 and they claim it's OD is 30.4" and width is 11.1". For the front you could go with a 255/60r17 (29"OD, W10.1") or a 235/75R17 (29"OD, W9.3"). I like Toyos, I ran a H rated 225/60r15s on my Mits. P/U back in the day. Pete M
viper wheels ftw, its a bolt on ;) If memory serves me, they have more backspacing and wheel spacers would be required. :hmm: Looks like my pathetic internet connection won't let me into tire rack and the like :fs1: , so I guess my research will have to pause until I'm back home on Friday. No hurry of course, since I don't have the money to buy any tires anyhow. :shake: but like my MJs, it's never too soon to plan for my dakota's future. :D

Pete M
well, after much deliberating (not really) I've decided that once I have money and a need of driving the truck, I'm going with the Goodyear Fortera Tripletred (until I change my mind again). I know a couple people that have 'em and love 'em and the tires come in the sizes I'm looking for (or close enough anyway). Should be very good in the heavy rain, and lord knows that happens once or twice in Georgia. 255/60/r17 (29x10) for the front 265/70r17 (31.6x10.5) for the rear for comparison, stock tires were 255/55r17 (28x10) which don't exist in the tripletred. we now take you back to your regularly scheduled program, already in progress. :waving:
Automan2164
Pete, put the black grille back on. Please. EDIT: Axe the euro lenses too... :ack: Rob L.
Pete M
the black one died in the accident. this cheap chrome died in the sun. I picked up a factory chrome on craigslist for $15 that will be going on eventually. The chrome stays. :fs2:

Pete M
I hate the amber lenses. they just pop out at the eyes, and not in a good way. I like the simpler color scheme. Just you wait til I have the shaker hood. And if I happen to have too much money someday, I'll be stroking the engine to 401 and installing a 6spd manual. :D
