has anyone here did the r-12 to r-134a conversion? I'm thinking of buying the kit and doing it myself. I have access to a vacuum pump and the gauges.

They have the kits at the store that come with the stuff needed for 35 bucks.

I did mine at the begining of the summer (88mj) I strongly suggest you replace the dryer with a new one. Also make sure your hoses are fine and they do not leak. For best results I removed the AC compressor in order to remove as much of the old oil as possible, also I blew some compresses air thru the lines to again remove as much of the old oil - then I hooked up the new dryer and vaccumed the system and istalled the correct amount of new oil and new refrigerant. In my case the a/c blows nice and cold after the conversion!!! godd luck.

My DD has it (didn't do it, PO did, and itc's a pro job)

Sucker cools like a champ. For 35 bucks, give it a shot. Oh, and try to dispose of the old oil correctly, please? It's nasty $#!&.

I had a line go bad on my MJ , it had R12 in it.

I replaced the line and charged with 134a 2 years ago, It will keep you cool on a 95 degree day without any carpet in the cab and 90 Degrees and below it will run you out of the cab. I did no conversion work on it at all, I figured when it toasted itself I would run OBA ................ I'm still waiting :D
