voltageyz0 Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 i have an 88 comanche pioneer, 2wd, 5 speed, 4.0L. i drove to the grocery store today and everything was working fine. i got into my truck and tried to start it and nothing happened. all the lights were dead except for the light in the rpm gauge that i added (witch normall turns on with the lights, and this time did not turn off at all). i checked the fuses under the dash and none were blown. every once in a while the dome light would turn on when i opened the door and when i tryed to start it i would just click once and that was it. i tryed checking for loose wires and did not find any. i tryed tapping the started and nothing happened. my battery is brand new as well at the starter, distributer, spark plug wires and plugs. any ideas would help. thanks, kevin
voltageyz0 Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 wouldent i still get power to my lights and radio?
Geonovast Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 wouldent i still get power to my lights and radio? If the alternator died, then it wouldn't be charging the battery. Might be enough juice to power the dome lights a bit, but the radio wouldn't go and it definitly wouldn't turn over. Have you tried to jump start it with anything?
voltageyz0 Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 ya me and my brother tried to jump it and it didnt do anyhing.
Wildman Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 First guest is the wires them self, you could have good clean connection at the battery, but the cables could be corroded inside the insulation, and you'll never see it. Check the engine ground connection, it's right near the oil dip stick. Check the body ground strap that's at the rear of the engine, off the firewall. Pull the plastic covering off the positive / ground wire, and check the wires for "lumps" There also is a fuseable links in the positive wire to the PDC.
renOnv Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I bought new battery cables at the local auto store for around 20 bucks, like the above poster mentioned, they can be coroding away from the inside out, mine were terrible when i pulled the old ones out. Its also worth it to check the other end and make sur everything is clean back there. :dunno: Hope that helps
mjdoa Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 You've got a bad connection somewhere, probably a battery cable, and probably a ground. Check them, especially where the negative cable grounds to the engine. Or did you get ti going?
