sinkrun Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Is it ok to put transmission fluid in the power steering or should I spring for the real stuff. Oh its in the 99 xj and its completley empty.
Geonovast Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Get a quart of Lucas Power Steering Fix and make sure you dump that in too. I'd get power steering fluid. I've heard many times that they're interchangable, but the power steering fluid I've bought was always thicker than the DEX III.
Wildman Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 If you completely empty, ya better check where it went :hmm: Bad seal, or leaking hose. And spring for the Power Steering fluid.
sinkrun Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 It went in the drain pan I replaced both hoses rusted beyond belief and at 160,000 I just left it drain figured new was in order. I will spring for the real thing, Thanks
Giffer Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 ive never even purchased powersteering fluid. ive used Dextron III in all my vechicles and never once had a problem, and its half the price. same crap bigger bottle.
dasbulliwagen Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Chrysler has specified ATF+4 since the late 90's, they now have a formula of ATF+4 specific to power steering. It can be purchased at any dealer. Also, the Lucas additive is a must... Good shtuff!
