transmission change question

Recommended Posts

When changing a 2wd with a ba10 transmission to a ax15 the pilot bearing is obviously different..but what about what appears to be a bushing in the back of the crank..is there a different bushing that goes in because the ax bearing doesnt fit inside the ba bushing..help me before i stick a rag in the gas tank and light this pig up please.

The bushing is a Motormite part #14674. I’ve got a spare if you can’t get one (got mine at Advance Auto for about $4).

Here’s what it looks like:

And here’s what it should look like when installed, with the pilot bearing pressed inside of it:

Depending on the year of you AX-15, the bushing you'll need is from a 74 CJ 304. It's a bronze unit and costs like $2. I would go buy that and compare it to your engine before going nuts trying to remove anything.

Ok..Its official..the part # i needed was FC 69907...unlike the one in the pic above..this one does not recess into that "second hole"...It fits into the first recess of the flywheel..sorry i didnt get a pic but sounds like i might after all..I used the slave out of the ba10 cause it looked like brand new..comparing it on the bench to the old one in the ax they looked the same..it fit perfectly..now i am being told they are different.. :dunno:

I only have the Chrysler parts look up system to go by, but they are completely different "part numbers". I have seen many different things have different part numbers, but still interchange over the years though. The fact that they are different part numbers makes me believe that there is some reason for this...but, who knows :dunno:

My experience: I ordered one for my MJ and the people I got it from sent one for an AX-15 by mistake and it looked similar to the one that came out of my BA10-5, but there was no way it was going to work as the fluid & bleed lines were in completely different orientations and would not hook up.

Ok, so maybe a Peugeot truck can retain it's peugeot slave when swapping to an AX-15 (with the internal slave), but if someone is replacing just the slave on their truck, it's important to get the proper part. Meaning the internals fit, but the hoses are different between the generations.

  • 1 year later...

dragging up an old post because I decided to swap a late model AX15 into my MJ over Easter weekend

Got the 14674 bushing hammered into the crank, but NOONE has a late model clutch alignment tool for sale around here (except as part of the whole matched clutch kit).

What the @#%*&! happened to parts stores anymore??? It's not like I'm working on a '37 Ford or something......all I need is a clutch tool for a friggin' mid-90's XJ fer chrissakes.

Bleah............ :headpop:
