ComancheKid45
Alright well ive been messing with the tire calculaters everyones been posting and thought to myself by this time next near ill most likely have a set of 31" tires on my truck. I have 30s now and am wondering about updating the speedo gear for accurate readings. Whats all involved with the swap and where can they be found. I figured if i put 1 in for the correct 31" tires now with my 30x9.50s installed itll be much closer than with the OEM 1. Any advice on this? Thanks
offroader461
Well its not going to be that far off..maybe 1-3MPH is about it...changing the speedo gear is easy...its on the transmission(2wd) or on the tailcone of the transfercase(4wd)...unbolt the holder and pop it out and replace it....simple

BLHTAZ
The correct speedo gear for the 31's is near impossible to find. I ordered one with the correct tooth count for a later model Jeep and had to swap the shaft off of the gear in the MJ to the new gear. If your set up is what I believe, you should need a 26 or 27 tooth gear.
ComancheKid45
Yeah I'm running 30x9.50 for now and if i do go up to 31s next winter that'll be the biggest i go probably. But even a gear that works close with the 30's I would be satisfied
