got rained out again today,

going to hopefully drop my transmission tomorow,

i found a clutch cover on ebay for $6.23 CAD

thats all i need, i bent the fingers on my old new clutch clover,

so I'm stuck with either buying a full kit and picking it up the same day, witch will cost about $300

or pay $39 shipping, and another $39 so i can get it over the border, and have to wait a couple days for it to get here,

what to do, haha well I'm dropping my trans tomorrow , and the people that are funding my clutch will choose a verdict for me, will update withs pics when i work on my manche again

yes finally got a day where i could drop my transmission,

i have finally found the problem with my clutch!!!!

look at pics and ill explain as i go :D

everything disconected

transmission out

here's my new old clutch,

clutch is off

clutch is out

and finally after almost a year i done some logical thinking, what i should have done before i put it in!

and what i did was measure it! its seemed a bit off, it's 9 1/2 inches wide

took my old clutch plate i saved, thank god, and placed it onto the clutch cover,

my clutch i ordered was to big, so it wasn't that it was damaged when it was installed,

it just wasn't the right clutch at all, now i know what the problem is,

will get new clutch set tomorow, or the next day.

any body need a new clutch?

update for today,

replaced the u joints

after a while the hammer with the soccet didnt work so we used a vice with this as the final product :P

started cleaning out the bell housing

new clutch kit :D

getting ready for put together

installing and testing clutch

all going good until no pressure in my slave cyl

found a broken flex line

will be getting a hold of a replacement line hopefully,

lordco says they are discontinued, so we are trying to get a hold of jeep.

otherwise we are going to make our own line, which won't be too hard,

we have a flex line bender and flaring tool.

will update when more progress is made

  • 2 weeks later...

found a nice donor vehicle at my local auto yard,

pulled out the master cyl and clutch line since they didnt disconect from eachother,

going to be going back there to give my manche a facelift,

and some bucket seats :D

only cherokee there,

but also 2 other good finds,

a grand cherokee and grand wagoneer from the 70's

the cherokee even has powerchairs

out with the old

in with the new

ran into a problem tho

the bolt pattern from the old one is different than the new one

had to think,

then i decided to do a little modifying

master cyl out of the way

put the old gasket counterclockwise (bolt spacing was the same)

and then marked and drilled some holes :D

checked to see if it would fit

i think its about to install it, but before that i need to seal the holes,

took some gasket maker and plugged them

then mounted the master cyl

next thing i had to do, was modify my old clutch pedal, i forgot to grab the pedal

after that i bled my slave cyl,

had amazing pressure i was so excited,

getting ready to install the tranmsision again

was draining what was left of the old weatherized gear oil,

doing some touch us on the cover,

a bit of wd-40 does help man it was grimey

gotta love this stuff makes everything slide right into place

hmm is this a familiar site to any of you?

well i installed my transmission, slid right in, had it all put together again in 15 min,

hop in, start the truck up, and guess what, no clutch again !!!!!!!!

  • 1 month later...

well upon working on the truck some more,

i have tried bleeding the clutchyesterday and there is air still getting in,

so we checked the seals on my slave cyl and they are good,

I'm thinking it has to be the last bit of old flex line,

i am going to try to install a double ended male connector to connect the single piece new line to the slave cyl,

and if that doesnt work I'm going to have to replace my replacement slave cyl xP

will update with pics soon,

i have finally found a good name for my project,

the never ending story xP

nothing really to update today,

no progress no pics,

I'm going to get a donor xj soon and swap everything off of that onto my truck,

going to do fenders and flare , bumpers, bucket seat and consol,

axels ( if they are d44's or if its 4wd)

transmission, clutch and flywheel, and the exhaust,

then I'm going to take what is left and find a good spot up in the mountains some where to leave the exoskeleton

update!

well a little one,

but its still an update non the less,

i went to the local lordco to get my clutches line,

they didnt have a double flared line!!

or so the guy said,

so i went to my hardware store and picked up some paint and primer instead,

repainted my tailgate and got rid of the rust :D

not the greatest job, but it looks better than before,

I'm thinking painting isnt my thing :D

leave that for the professionals

so i ended up replacing the last bit of the old line,

was pretty stoked, i had preasure,

but still kept on getting air bubbles,

so i got on my creeper (it belongs in a museum)

and i found this (don't mind the 2x4, it was just to see if i could shorten the spacers for the slave cyl)

this is a clutch line from my newer clutch master cyl,

there is a distinct crack in it, could that make the air leak?

that line was from an internal slave cyl setup

ill post this in tech as well

fixed my clutch line,

no more leak,

took it into auto shop last week and have been tinkering,

put some dot 4 fluid in it, bled it by pulling out the piston and filling up the slave cyl,

then pushing the master cyl in all the way, till all the bubbles came out of the line and till it over flowed,

then i took the piston with the seal and shoved er back in,

tested to see if there was air bubbles, and none :) musta been the 0-ring i had in my slave cyl (don't ask, some one suggested it)

threw it on the vice, and pushed the rod on the slave cyl, ROCK SOLID!!!!

I'm GOING TO INSTALL IT TOMOROW, WHEN THERES NO MORE RAIN, AND DRIVE HER OFF THE JACK STANDS!!!!!!!!

so ive been trying to work on the truck latley,

but too much rain, so i am half done my fender modification,

but right now, ive replaced the wiring harness, cleaned all of the pins in it,

polished the grill, replaced all the lights,

and drilled out new holes for where the other ones rusted off,

i decided to reuse the 4 bolts that held the original faceplate on,

takes a few minuites of cursing while getting your arms sliced open by a fender, trying to unscrew rusted bolts,

top ones you drill a hole a bit lower, flip them around and screw them right back in,

lower ones, I'm using quick steel to fill the hole in the fender, and then ill stick a bolt in that,

once i get everything finished ill post the pics.

face lift done :)

driversside fender was sooooo much easier then the passenger side,

i relocated the bolts, drilled new holes for it to all go back together,

and i just ordered a whole new clutch line from clutch city online,

so first i peeled back the top of the fender

removing the bolts,

drilling a hole for the new mount

Bolt screwed in

realized i drilled a random hole, way off so i had to redo it

final product on the fenders

polishing the grill

drilling more new holes

and all finished :)

so what do you guys think?

Nice work on the grill!

Why did you have to move the bolt? Is that because you went from a '86 grill to a '87-92 grill?

BTW, I just read your whole thread for the 1st time, wow, way to stick with it on that clutch issue.

Oh yeah, what ever happened with the XJ donor?

yea i went from 86 to 87+

so the mounts are a bit diffrent,

the donor vehicle,

was at a scrap yard,

guy wanted ridiculous amount for it,

so i just took the grill and thats it :P

and its crushed now,

they crushed it on saturday

ya , its a good looking front end - i didnt realize that the mounts were different from 86 to 87. there must be quite a few potential parts rigs in ur neighbourhood . uve done a lot of good things with that truck ---good luck.

here's some nearby junk : http://kelowna.en.craigslist.ca/cto/1762112107.html

who knows ..................................
