MancheKid86
hey there, a few months ago i accuired an 86 manche from my father, he got it for about $150 and then i got it off him for free, but recently the clutch died, so i had to replace it, and this is where my problem begins :P i put the new clutch in and put the trany in again, bled the clutch line no problem, the pedal worked fine, but... it didnt work, found out i forgot to put the new throwout bearing on, would kinda help right? so i dropped the transmission again, and put it on, i also drained the gear oil and replaced it with new fluid, (man that stuff sucks getting out of a hoddie, smells so bad) bled the clutch line completley and it was still really loose, btw, i only bled it at the bleeder vaulve where it gets hooked up to the transmission, are there any more places i would need to bleed it from? any iedeas? btw, i need to do the timing, what would the easiest way to do it without a timing light be? (untill i get one)
Pete M
4 cylinder or 6 cylinder? Is the slave inside the bellhousing or outside the bellhousing?

Pete M
Well, then I can at least answer one of your questions. The timing isn't adjustable. It's set and control by the computer.
MancheKid86
then, how would i be able to adjust such a thing?
BLHTAZ
then, how would i be able to adjust such a thing? You can't...that's what he's telling you ;) . If you believe you have timing problem, then it's likely that the chain tensioner is bad and you need to replace that. The 4 cyl has a tensioner unlike the 4.0L 6 cyl. Was there an external slave offered in '86...? Seems it would be an internal and therefore is going to be a ral PITA to get bled out. The internals require A LOT of bleeding...and when you fell that you have bled it A LOT...do it some more.
MancheKid86
ok, ill try it out again, for bleeding i got my bud to pump on the pedal, but that got boring... did that for like an hour and a half, so i decided to get him to pump, then i too ka tube as he was holding onto the pedal still, and cyphoned it, but ill try it some more
BLHTAZ
Mine took about 3 tries. We got it going, then it got weak again...we bled it some more. I drove it for a few miles and it got weak again...we bled it some more. Finally it stayed pressurized and has been working for 8 months now without issue. Pete M
Early AX-5s were external, then they switched to internal (and then back to external but that was after the MJ was gone).
MancheKid86
i bled it again today (auto class) still loose, should i do everything up ( put drive shaft and ect. on) and see if it engages/disengages? also, the only way that i was able to bleed my clutch pedal, was to disconect my driveshaft, and unbolt the plate that holds the back of the tranny, then droped er down. any more simple way? also, the brake and clutch resivoir is the same resivoir right? this was also thrown out at me, if this is a new clutch kit, maybe it is supposed to be feeling loose? no idea, but i don't think so, my goal is to get it done for this weekend, (shouldnt take that long, but i only have like 1 hr and a bit per day to work on it :( ) ohh btw, i went through over a full bottle of brake fluid, while trying to bleed it, thats not good, is it? BLHTAZ
I don't understand what you are having to take apart to bleed the clutch :hmm: . Mine was easy to bleed without even lifting the truck off the ground. Mine did feel a bit "loose" to start with, but it did work and after I put 40 - 50 miles on it, it got stronger. The tech at the dealership that helped me with it said that was normal and that sometimes there is just a little bit of air in the system that makes it feel soft, but as long as it engages...things work themselves out...and it did on mine. ;) No...the brake & clutch are two different reservoirs. MancheKid86
i found another problem with my old slave cyl. today, i got my replacement part in at the end of the day, and i was comparing them to each other, the slave cyl that came off, i looked inside, and the part where it pushes the rod the engage the clutch was sucked right back, the spring that was supposed to make it spring back was bent and in front of it!
