Bolts all loose on the valve cover, what does this cause?

Recommended Posts

Noticed a bad oil drip on under my MJ, got to checking and realized all the valve cover bolts were very loose. Other than the obvious oil leak, what other issues will/did this cause.

thank you for your information.

It would cause me to yell at the person who left them loose, if it were my truck

The only thing that would happen, would be the loss of oil.

Thank you, I was hoping it may have also contributed to the blow by I am having. The truck only has 78,500 miles on it.

Thank you for the information.

If anything it would eliminate any blow-by,, well not eliminate but instead of the blow-by going through the ccv system it'd be pushing right into the environment. But, the VC would have to be so lose that an actual gap was present. Blow-by is caused from the air from compression/combustion cycles leaking mostly by the piston rings, or even valve seals.

I changed the valvecover gasket about 2 months back and just had to snug the bolts up today as the are all loose on the xj. but hay the last one I owned it was just something I did once a month like everything elts. cheak oil, tires, lube joints, tighten valvecover, wash ( maybe) lube door handels, ect, ect, ect............
