Redramman
Comanche Flywheels can't be resurfaced,so why when you order a replacement do they want your old one for a core??? and the description talks about precision machining??? http://www.partsamerica.com/productdeta ... 67&PTSet=A
deziped
Probally because they fill weld/buildup the old imperfections then put it on a lathe & resurface it back to orig spec. :dunno:

carnuck
Ditto on the resurface. It's not a stepped wheel. (I have several kicking around I won't need anymore)
Redramman
I'm going to take it to parts store machine shop to see what they say .I hate to spend $56 on a $20 job. I don't know if Jeep just wants to sell more parts or what???
Eagle
I guess some people get away with resurfacing, but the FSM specifically says not to. I remember some people from NAXJA who were having clutch problems. Turned out thei had had shops replace the clutch, and the shops had resurfaced the flywheel. Once they replaced the flywheel, their problems disappeared. You might get lucky, but I wouldn't bet the farm. I also wouldn't buy a "reconditioned" flywheel from a parts house. The shop manual specifically says the flywheel has a contour. I don't know what it is, but I suspect it's a very shallow taper rather than a perfectly flat surface. Unless it is reconditioned to replicate that contour, it's no different from taking your own flywheel and running it through a surface grinder. mjtjnj
oh by the way i am back on line now been off for a while  Hey, now that you're back, you wanna pay me for the starter I sent you? You didn't hold up your end of the bargain, and even when you came back online, you haven't replied to me. Sorry to clog up the board with this, and I hoped we wouldn't have to worry about bad buyers/sellers here on a close-knit group, but it's everywhere I guess. :hijack:
mjtjnj
Just so everyone knows, Dan (bigd) got back to me on this and made good. We're square. Thanks Tom
Redramman
 I just love a happy ending,Glad you guys worked it out. :jump: I had a shop resurface it but have to fix broken shift fork and gear in trans before I can put it back in. I did check it with a straight edge before I took it in and it was a flat surface. The old clutch disk was reasonably flat on both sides. I'm going to check how flat the surface of the new preasure plate is.Hopefuly it will all work.

The clutch has never engaged smoother.
