sinnaevd
where can i find the best price for the full traction 6 inch XJ lift. I think that's the kit i'm going to run on my MJ.
feerocknok
Different rear suspension.
sinnaevd
I know. I will sell of the XJ leaf pack, and have sutom leafs made. Or I should be able to SOA, and that should bring me close to level...might need just a little bit inthe rear but maybe an inch to an inch and a half... DirtyComanche
Go steal a main leaf from a dakota pack or such, cut the eyes off, and add it to your packs under the main leaf, should be level. Spring rate will be slightly stiffer, but that's a good thing in this case...
sinnaevd
That with SOA? Or am I missing something??
DirtyComanche
Yeah, with SOA. Guess I should have clarified.
sinnaevd
I probably shoul dhave assumed. lol I still trying to learn the ropes  That XJ book should be at my doorstep any day now, hopefully that will put me on the same page as everyone
DirtyComanche
I'm thinking I should read that book at some point. Â Â See how many things I've done 'wrong'.
sinnaevd
ur not wrong...just being innovative. lol The good hting is, you have knowledge to make sound decisions off of. I still am completely confused as to "why" certain lift kits are better then others. not sure what I should be looking for
DirtyComanche
I hate to blow my own horn, but you might read this thread:  http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopi ... hlight=faq   It just covers the basics, and has my opinons thrown in it... I think.

pingpong
that thread just scratches the surface though. Since you don't have a lot of knowledge I suggest you research, and then ask lots more questions before you chunk down the kinda money a full traction kit demands. sinnaevd
for sure. I am going to be lifting this winter probably, so I still have a ton of time to search. But at the same time, I want to do all my other mods first
pingpong
What are your plans for your rig, and how do you plan on wheeling it
sinnaevd
I plan on doing mostly trails mud, san dune. Not really into actual rock climbing, but might run some very very small ones up in Norhtern Ontario. Â So far I, I want to switch over to auto, upgrade transfer case, D44 rear, engage.diengage locker, 4.56 front anf rear, 33 inch tires, 6 inch lift (long arm mostly because I prefer the look). aftermarket bumpers, roll bar, lights etc. lotsa little stuff. I will also have to do a 4X4 conversion, so if I can find a XJ with a d44, i'm guessing that will be a better go because I will SOA the rear n e way. Â That's it in a basic nutshell... Â Biggest problem I think I am having (unless everyone can see problems I am going to run into) is that I'm not sure on what manufacturere to buy all my junk from. I've had bad luck buying used parts to actually use in the past...so I am more then likely going to buy most of the stuff used. Â Only thinkg in concrete right now are TrXus 33 inch tires, with the rims I choose (i forget what they are called)
Pete M
An XJ Dana 44 won't save you any effort. You'll still need to move the spring perches.
87manche
An XJ Dana 44 won't save you any effort. You'll still need to move the spring perches. yep, and you can find a Ford 8.8 out of an exploder cheaper/easier and get rear disc brakes with some minor modifications. I've got two here, with brackets.
sinnaevd
are 8.8's cheaper to build? Â D44 with 4.10's easy to sell?
Pete M
are 8.8's cheaper to build? Â Â Â Sorta. They are newer and so would likely not need a complete overhaul as you can expect with a 20 year old Dana 44. The main good points are disk brakes and they are common in junkyards. Since you're changing to 4.56s, the gears in the axle won't matter so just make sure the one you pick is in great condition with good brakes and intact e-brake cables. Also make sure what ever type of locker you want is available for the 8.8. Â Â Â D44 with 4.10's easy to sell? Â Yes.
sinnaevd
what's a good price for a d44 with 4.10's?? like 200 Canuck?
DirtyComanche
Up to $650. Â $200 is a 'good' price. Â Â You can pick them up for $100.
pingpong
Price for a D44 depends on demand in your area. anywhere from 200 to 400 is normal in my area. Â As for the 8.8 the came in explorers for many yrs. I have one and it is stout as all get out. The factory LSD really isn't that great, as mine failed on the second trip. If you get one with a LSD yo CAN NOT use a lunchbox locker in it. Your only choices are to lincoln lock it, or full locker, or replace to an open carrier and reset-up your gears. Another thing about the 8.8 is the carrier is externally shimmed so it is easier to set-up gears on it, but still not a job for someone with limited skills
sinnaevd
now I already have the D44. If I don't plan on really rock crawling, will I need the Disc rear?? Should I just keep the D44 I have and rebuild it accordingly?
DirtyComanche
Just use the D44. Disk brakes are nice, but not really a huge deal.
sinnaevd
plus this is already out of a manche, so it WOULD bolt right in if I wasn't doing SOA, but since I am SOA, and going to do that Dakota thingy you were telling me about to level it off, then I need to cut off the peice that the leafs bolt to and weld new ones in correct??? That's the basic plan?
