What type of shocks do you like?

Recommended Posts

I need to figure out what type of shock to get for my RE 5.5 MJ lift. I have only had the Rancho shocks on my other jeeps. Anything better for the MJ? Should I try something different like the Bilstein or? What is everyone else using? I will be on the road 80% of the time. TIA, Rich

It depends on how much your budget is for shocks. Also I would advise you to wait till after you install your lift before ordering your shocks. That way you could get one that matched your rig after you flex it. I think when I was running the RE DB's I was runnning shocks that were 28" extended, with 26" front brakelines. For the rear I am not sure, it is going to depend on how you set-up your shshock mounts, and weather or not you keeep the stock upper mount

AS for brand, I have had good success with sky jacker Nitor's and Doestch tech 3000.

I second the Skyjacker Hydros. They are a good price and offer a pretty nice ride IMHO. :D

I am running a combo of BDS in the front and Ranchos out back. All hydraulic. I won them, in raffles, so I did not have much choice.... They ride nice enough.

this is off topic, but how do you like the RE 5.5?? thinking about doing it myself
I do not have it yet. I will do a write up on it after I get it and have it installed ;) I will follow your advice Pingpong and wait until the lift is on before I order the shocks. Looks like you all agree on hydro-type shocks

Hopefully after this weekend I can tell you how I like my new MX-6 shocks. Well, up front at least. I won't have time to fab up mounts for the rear before friday. Monotube, gas charged, and adjustible. :D
