xjblue
Was checking out the old truck for burnt out bulbs tonight and noticed some oddities. 1. With the headlights on, the corner markers do not blink when signaling a turn like they do on my 93 XJ, they remain constantly on - normal?. Now I can't remember if they blinked with the lights off but I don't think so. 2. Also with headlights on, the passenger park light remains off  , but blinks during signal for right turn regardless of headlight status  . 3. The right turn indicator arrow lamp in the dash remains constantly on when the headlights are on except when indicating a right signal then it blinks as usual  . Only one bulb appeared to be shot, the upper lamp, driverside tail. Gremlins of the electrical veriety or what?

pingpong
I would check al light bulbs. I know on Pong if any one light is not working right they all do screwy things.
Eagle
The corner markers do not blink on early XJs and MJs. I didn't think that started until 1997, with the new XJ body style. Are you certain they blink on a '93? The parking light problem and the glowing dash indicator both suggest a bad ground to the parking light socket. It's trying to ground through the dash indicator circuit.
512tr
I recently rewired the marker lights on my XJ, just remove the wire going to ground and connect it to the DIR/HAZ wire. The marker light will then have ground through the DIR/HAZ bulb when DIR/HAZ is not applied. When the DIR/HAZ lights are used, 12V is applied to the wire, the marker lights loose grounding and starts to flash (flash opposite of the DIR lights). 87manche
I will second the bad ground. I had two of them. Made the dash indicator light up anytime the parking lights were on. Also made my hazards not work correctly. Replacement sockets are about $3 at the parts store.

xjblue
Are you certain they blink on a '93?quote] absolutely, one of those cool things I've always liked about my XJ, they blink opposite just like in 512tr's little animation when the park lights or headlights are on and they blink together with the parks when no lights on. btw You guys rock, this thread is very helpful; pictures diagrams, personal experiences, and tech full replies in -24 hours. Appearantly quicker than a charge lasts on my poor MJ's battery these days! (time for optima). Thank You all. I'll be busy after work tomorrow. apache
I just went thru this with my MJ. I`ll bet youl find corroded wires/terminals in the light assembly. Probe the tabs in the assembly for hot, then at the wires a few inches back. I bet you`ll find the problem.
xjblue
Opened it up to replace the park/turn bulbs. Driverside socket had been replaced and boy what a hack job! Never seen so many different connectors in one spot, but it still works. Pass side, the problem side, was sporting an inordinant amount of electrical tape and appears it could be an original socket. The electrcal tape appeared to be trying to hold at least one wire a certain way and now that it's removed I get nothing from that new bulb. Looks like two new sockets next trip to the parts store. I'll be installing a new front bumper, good time to check/rewire everything.
