Cdn Glenwood Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I have a 92 MJ w/ax15. It wants to pop out of gear but only on deceleration and it doesn't happen every time. What would cause this?
kar120c Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Can also be worn bearings and/ or just a really beaten up transmission with high mileage as was the case with my CJ w/ the T5. Did the same thing you described. End result was a badly needed rebuild.

Anyhow I just got a line on 93 XJ with only 66000 Kilometers :Canadaflag: for only $700. Its been sitting on our friends land for the last 5 years and he will be happy to get rid of it.
Pete M Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 He could have been right. If you put the wrong gear oil in the AX-15 it'll eat up the synchros.
Pete M Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Since they stopped making the previous stuff (which was super expensive anyways), the new recommendation from Jeep is to use regular engine oil. 10w40 I think. There are sulphor compounds in the GL-5 gear oils that eat yellow metals.
