JohnQ
I just bought some Royal Purple 75w-140 for my rear dana 44. It say's it has the friction modifier already in it, so I shouldn't have to add any more right? :dunno:
BLHTAZ
That is correct. I use AMSOIL, not RP, but AMSOIL doesn't require the modifier either.
JohnQ
Thanks, I just wanted to make sure. This is the first time I have ever changed the diff fluid myself.
WahooSteeler
I am getting ready to do mine too, so "Lucy, you got some 'splaining to do". I.E., what is involved?
jared
I am getting ready to do mine too, so "Lucy, you got some 'splaining to do". I.E., what is involved? unbolt the cover, hit it with a rubber mallet until it pops off makes sure there is a drain pan under it. clean the gasket surface of the cover and diff with a scraper or a cookie disc if you have one. spray it out with brake cleaner if you want to get all rtv out of diff. inspect the carrier and spiders etc. then use rtv to reseal the cover, be generous, bolt it down. then fill it to just below the fill hole of the cover. CWLONGSHOT
I run it exclusively in my TJ, everything that gets lube gets Royal Purple. Nice stuff, cannot say for sure it makes any difference, but its supposed to be good stuff. Just remembered, I don't run it in the ECTED, its not recommended and will void there warranty... If you remember all the problems I have had with the ECTED in the MJ. I don't take any chances... CW

JohnQ
I drove my truck to work today, 53 miles on the clock since I put in the new gear oil, I noticed i have a little bit leaking out of my vent tube. Does this mean I put in too much fluid?
MiNi Beast
run it in my 8.8  did you fill it up past your fill plug?
JohnQ
run it in my 8.8  did you fill it up past your fill plug? It's about a 1/4 inch below the fill plug. Maybe I just had some residual fluid in the axle tube from moving it around when I installed it. I’m going to clean it up and keep an eye on it.
