99+ Open Cooling System Mod
rubiconron replied to rubiconron's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I do have A/C. Not sure if its working yet. But it is there and I plan on using it this summer. Sooo I will most likely change the T-stat housing. I do have a brand spankin new T'stat to go in anyways. Thanks for the help. Ron -
Has anyone completely swapped in a 99+ cooling system onto closesd loop renix era system (88 )? Through my searches I've seen several article about changing the heater control valve and some about deleting it etc. etc. I have a parts 99 that I can pull the entire system from and was wondering if there would be any issues. 99 Radiator 99 Hoses 99 T-stat 99 Water pump 99 overflow bottle Are swapping all of these parts necessary? Do I need to change the water pump if its not having a problem? Thanks Ron

I had that problem too. I thought it was just old door seals......which some it was. BUT last weekend I loosened the door striker and moved it in (toward the seat) just a little. That fixed a ton of air leakage and road noise. Ron

I pulled and cleaned that fitting too. It did not solve my problem. Ron

I don't think the rings are bad......if they were I'd be burning oil, which I am not. As far as I am concerned I don't want to put a catch bottle in there. I want something that will correct the issue, not help accept it. Soooo for right now I'm going to swap the valve cover with one from a 99. They do not have the baffles that sink all the way down to the head. We'll see if this does anything to help with the problem and address the issue again if need be. Thanks, Ron

I bought an aftermarket seal. Guess we'll see if it holds... but I know where the main oil leak is..... its coming out of the air box and coating the entire underneath of the drivers side of my truck.
-
I had the valve cover off and the baffles (flange thingys) completely off. They have been cleaned and ALL of the CCV parts (including elbow fittings) were replaced with brand new parts from Napa.

I just did a whole bunch of work on my MJ. It had started leaking oil pretty bad out of the rear seal. Soooo....I pulled the valve cover and oil pan and cleaned both of them out. I cleaned all of the old gasket off of the motor and the pan so I would get a good seal. I put on new rubber gaskets and replaced the rear main seal. While I was making these improvements i figured I'd go ahead and fix a few more things that I knew were not working correctly. I replaced all of the fuel injectors with new ones from Precision. I also replaced the spark plugs, EGR valve, and all of the vacuum hoses (CCV) from Napa. I topped that off with a new air filter. Well the leaking has not gotten any better just confined to one place. At least now I'm not leaking oil directly onto my exhaust. However, the oil is getting pulled through the fresh air intake on the valve cover and getting dumped on top of my air filter. I can't figure out why it is still reversing the system. I checked the system at idle and it seems to work correctly...as it is sucking air into the valve cover but something must change when I'm driving.......cause the air filter is full of oil on the back end where the intake line comes into the box. Any help would be appreciated!!!!! Thanks, Ron

Like I said in the first post....I'm playing catch up. The truck was actually painted in September or October. I'll try to get some more pics on here later for some of the other upgrades. Thanks to everyone for the compliments. I'll try to keep the pics coming. Ron

Along the way with the help of this website and some others several smaller projects have been completed. I don't have pictures of all of them but I may be able to snap some after shots. First thing I did was body work and paint. I robbed the red parts off of my Sportruck. When I was doing the body work I found a tailgate in the junkyard so I put the red one back on the other truck.

I had introduced my comanches earlier but I have never started a project thread. It is safe to say that I have been working on my Pioneer since I got it. It has been one of my DDs as well. So lets play a little catch up so to speak. 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0L SWB Auto 2wd 150K This is what my truck looked like the day I bought it:

Finally found one...Now it has a new floor.

I have an 88 Sportruck that has an olympic decal on the back window. I wasn't sure if that was anything special. I didn't know that there were "olympic" edition trucks. I'm still kinda new to these. -
That's doing pretty god. You must know someone there or have access to a wholesale account. List price on it is $104 and I can get them for you for about $75 plus shipping ;) Yeah, I do get hooked up at the dealer...... I've been buying parts from them for 10 years. What sucks now is that I don't live there anymore, but my parents do. So I have to get my dad to pick stuff up and I get them on weekends that I visit. This weekend I'm getting a new EGR valve. My dealer price was less than an aftermarket one. Its not always a better price but if its close, I try to get it from the dealer. OEM ya know.

Check the grounds. That's what I've seen cause the most problems with lights.
-
Are there any preferences between dealer items and auto parts stores? I'm looking to replace my EGR valve and my O2 sensor and I was wondering if anyone had any good or bad experiences with factory or aftermarket parts. Thanks,

Just checking here. The topper from other model trucks will fit on Comanches?? Like S-10 and Rangers!! Are there year model limitations?? My Comanche is SWB. Thanks, Ron

Gauge swap, little help please?
rubiconron replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I finally got the gauges figured out. Apparently the only three that were working was the battery the tach and the speedo. The connector in the back had come half way out. All of the gauges are working correctly now. Thanks, Ron I will try to get that speedo greased up at some point.
