  1. alright, so I got the front axle back in, and all the associated stuff. now I just need the shocks, and to stretche the brake line farther. also I will need to do a tierod flip on this thing. it is do-able. the tires are toed in a bit, so that will be adjusted as well. I think I may need to extend the upper control arms a bit more too. here it is just set down hooking up steering etc. cleaned the CAD and got it working too made the swaybar links, solid ones for now and the calipers are on, but there's not enough room in the brake line for 6.5" of lift the brake line bent back really easy, but I can't pull any more through just takin it up a rock. that's as far as I could go...the brake line was too far stretched this is the amount of clearance at full turn that I have between the control arm and the tire and between the tire and the fender flare so the front sits at 39" of height from the ground to the fender flare that's 23.5" from the center of the hub to the bottom of the fender flare, compared to the stock being 17" or something like that. so true lift was 5.5 inches roughly. I'm OK with that. the rear will be lifted SO in the rear this week, and will sit about 2" higher than the front when done. then all I have to do is front shocks, all brake lines need extended or replaced, and do something about the steering arms...
  2. I beat a civic with the 3800 and didn't even have to rev above 4,000. kid got pissed.
  3. Thought about ya at the JY today when I came across a black steering column and wheel. I also found a D44 in an XJ but the guy wanted more than twice the price of my regular pick and pull. It was $250 which wasn't too bad but if I'm patient, I'll have one for cheaper. Didn't dare ask how much for the wheel. Hope you got one already. doncha hate them high prices? yep, got a black column (have to swap cruise stalk into it), and a nice leather wrapped black steering wheel. all I need is the black horn button with the hex heads now...so if ya find one of them, pocket it!
  4. well this has taken a back seat to the 89...temporarily. plans for september are to remove the dash, and heater assembly, replace with black dash and a/c box, put in a black steering column. It needs a new trackbar (oh, got one from the 89 left over :P), and new UCA bushings. sadly because of the camaro motor and my exhaust manifolds, I have to remove the exhaust to get the bolts out...unless I torch the bolts, which might not be a bad idea come to think of it... then the 8.8 will be ready to go in. going with the one with 3.55 gears for now, since I don't want to change gears on this truck, just drive it with all wheel discs. and I have to repaint the entire bottom edge (both sides) as this one is rusting
  5. mid 60's to early 70's mopar stuff is the most likely thing to have them a bodies b bodies d bodies shucks it's too bad...I can't spell
  6. got the driver's side completely done. now just gotta do the pass side then install it all then also put the coil springs on the axle. gotta remove the shocks from it tomorrow while the last control arm dries, then I can put the ca's on the frame and then the axle up in there and be done in time for tea! then a few poser pics are in order, and bring it back in turn her around, and drop the rear axle out for the SOA.
  7. got 1 upper control arm done measured and tac welded the lower half attached to the angle iron reinforcement that I'm using. it's done! just needs finish welded. note that I used the angle iron on the bottom as reinforcement, and I have only 1 cut that I made. took a piece of one control arm that was 8" long, and a piece that was just under 8" (both from the center of the bushings) and that gave me what I needed for measurements. end result, finished CA. I also added plates from the leftovers as security to reinforce the control arm... by the way, I used zinc coat weldable primer prior to welding because I wanted the inside (under the angle iron) to be painted with some sort of paint for rust prevention. what do y'all think so far?
  8. well that settles it. tatersalad ain't leaving, and I'm thinking it needs a LS1 :brows: like the one I can get for $500 (complete 97 camaro 100,000 miles) running and driving. hmm... and I'm gettin a free cherokee body here soon.... guys, I hate to say it, but I think I have another project coming this winter...wait, I love to say that!
  9. I'm Norwegian and don't seem to have a problem... :brows: Let me know if you need any more help. Offer still stands if you need me to take a measurement. thanks man, I appreciate it. finished the left UCA and both LCA's are done. now I just gotta get the right UCA off the truck, make it between the two UCA's I've got, remove lower control arms, and bolt this sucker up! it's startin to look like an MJ!
  10. thanks, I was just not reading the tape right...I think I've proven I'm norwiegian...
  11. nvm I'm an idiot and can't read a tapemeasure
  12. dropping the front axle today...here's the results took 1.5 hours you can see the heavy duty coils that were in it vs. the 6.5" lift ones. I painted the axle already, and just gotta get the control arms out of the truck now, then extend the uppers, and I can put it back together.
  13. ...unless they bobbed the bed, it is a cherokee with a comanche back half...longbed beds are longer in the rear.
  14. thank you very much. I'm ordering the second set, cause I honestly don't care right now. it just has to work, and I'm trying to keep the lift under $750 (price right now is $610) since I'm making the control arms, swaybar links, SOA the rear
  15. no I won't, the bend is on the lower side of the axle...
  16. So Pete, do you think that the shock mounts themselves could be used as my spring perches? that seems to be what you did...how did you control centering of the axle?
  17. need some shocks for a 6.5" lift, what do I need. just give me a number that will work, I'm not picky. how long should a trackbar be set to (adjustable one) for a 6.5" lift? I bought it new and it didn't come with instructions...and you guys are just as good at answering as rough country is.
  18. LMAO ya right :P thanks, I'm happy with it...and I didn't want the bedmat but hey, it was free...so I'll use it :D the tires are 33x12.50's mounted on 7" wide rims with a 4.5" backspacing. I wish the backspacing was less, but for $10 on the rims...$200 on the tires. I can't complain, the tires are 90% tread left. rims will be swapped for 7.5's with 3" of bs when I get the $$$.
  19. yeah, I was thinking of that...but the whole point of bending the control arms was so that articulation the top of the control arm doesn't contact the coil spring mount. I like the idea...and I can always change it if I need to.
  20. why? and where? I think it will be strong enough...it's a beefy arm and def. quality welds on it. (when they're put on that is...)
  21. haha, yep. here's what I did today on the LCA's. right after the bend. cut them on the bandsaw at my friend's machine shop making the plug/extensions had to use the lathe for that... all done with extensions then I cross-drilled the control arms on both sides..8 holes per control arm... for extra strength in welding welding them now, then I will build the uppers tomorrow afternoon, then go to the fair and volunteer for a bit, and gonna install the front lift on saturday.

  23. hehe, this is my new DD too :P so shocks are a must. I like that idea, so I'll copy it. bent my lower control arms today. now just gotta lengthen them
