  1. i am gonna be down at my friends place this weekend so I wll try and get pics. If i remember right he just sait the whole thing down on the fram and welded the control arms he cut in half to the frame and the made brackets for on the body for the bolt to go through the bushing part of the control arm. With 4" of lift on the frame and the body being set on the way it is the 35's he has on there look way to small. But if you went with no lift and the 35's it would look perfect.
  2. A note on the frame usage. A comanche body with the subframe attached still fits perfectly in line with a full size chevy frame. A friend of mine took a k-5 blazer frame and took the cab and fenders of a comanche and put it on there using the control arms as body mounts. Looks real nice and the wiring from the comanche to the gm frame was identical. He is a big chevy guy and said almost all the connectors and wiring was done the same on the jeep as the chevy.
  3. my buddy uses his to pull an 18' car trailer and his full size 4x4 chevy back and forth when we go wheeling which is and hour away. Your right they are slow as a turtle but he gets there just the same as my cummins does. A 4bt can be found check with your local agriculture scrap yards or farm auctions that have Case skid steers listed. They all have 4B and the new xt75 should be turbo charged if i remember correctly. throw a nv4500 behind it and have all kinds of fun.
  4. in regards to the tranny, a 700R4 will hold up to a 6.2/6.5 a buddy of mine has one behind his 6.2. As far as the 4L80E lots of money for the tranny alone not to mention a controller for it. They run anywhere from 500 to 1500 dollars. Sounds like a good idea I personally would go cummins reliability and brute strength can't be beat. My opinion though I work for Cummins so I am biased.
  5. I have mostly run trails and some rock down here in southern indiana. Not really much else down here. I have 35" tires on my jeep with the drop brackets and am pleased with the performance they give me. I don't see how the brackets can be any worse than your pumpkin hanging down or transfercase or driveline. I hang up on my rear end more than anything. need to bob the long bed:)
  6. I have a set of the RE drop brackets on mine with 6.5" Rustys coils. I like the flex and ability of lifting the jeep cheap without going long arms. The only thing I have noticed is that it looks like it pushed my axle forward to much even when the control arms are slid all the way back in the adjusting sleeve. Haven't noticed anything negative about them and sure don't get hung up on anything from them being to low. I like the drop brackets but thats just my opinion.
  7. can i just get a cable somewhere?
  8. i will have to give that a try i am trying to make this my cheap jeep. so far i have been doing good. i love ebay, found the jeep, lift, and other knick knacks on there. only new thing on the jeep is the header panel, two fenders, and lighting but only $140 delivered to my door for all of it. Even have the 2 for $3 wal-mart paint sale paint job in progress.
  9. I also would really like to put a set of bucket seats in while its apart but finding those from reading on here is hard to do. Not pick on color just hate the bench for wheeling. I have some xj buckets but from what I have read alot of work to install them and I have no welder or cutting torch.
  10. I have already switched the gauge cluster out for one with actual gauges. I have the carpet out to do a rhino lined inside and thought while i was at it i would change to a floor shifter. I have everything minus the cable for this I hate to have to go buy a new shifter and what not when all I need is the cable. Anyways, i also have the sheetmetal piece where the blank one is now for the new shifter. I was just curious how involved this switch would be.
  11. Has anyone on here done a conversion by putting in a floor shifter from a cherokee and deleted the column shifter? I have an 89 with an auto and column shift but my column is busted and the one i found to replace it doesn't have the column shift. I do however have the floor shifter out of an auto cherokee minus cables. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. check with rustys i have 27 or so ride height with my 6.5" lift and they had shocks in stock and to me withing 2 days.
  13. I've used an air nibbler from one of the sheetmetal shops here in town and it works great. just trace your line you want and follow it. It leaves a nice clean edge too.
  14. i will try to get some pics on here or send them to your email. I haven't tried to put pics on here but would imangine it pretty easy.
  15. It depends on the amount of lift you are going to use. I have ~6.5" with spring over rear plus 2" add a leaf and coils up front. I have about an inch of engagement now with the transfer case and almost slips out at full flex. So depending on the lift whether you would need the drop kit or not.
  16. I'm located in columbus, IN just south of Indianapolis. I will try and get some pics when the sun comes out again. It is sitting in my garage with no electricity so its kinda hard to see.
  17. I have a half cab like that as well minus a front axle and some front end sheetmetal. The guy I got it from did the same thing cut right behind the cab for a trailer. I was like what the *&%$. So I took it and now need the garage space. If anyone wants it $50 and you haul it off. I just want the thing gone.
  18. looks nice. where did you get your front bumper at or is it home made?
