  1. Funny story about clutch. I was out mudding one evening with a buddy riding shotgun. We got down into a trench deal that snaked around for about 100yds out in the woods. It was full of water and mud and people in much bigger trucks had walloed it out REALLY bad in the past months. Anyway, towards the end of the run there was a particuarly deep hole and we werent sure if we could make it, but decided to try it. I was letting my friend who thinks hes the best standard trans driver in the world  have a turn at the wheel. About half way, creeping through, we started to bog down, not wanting to stall it out, my friend started slipping the clutch. . . . a little to much. Long story short after a few moments white clutch smoke started POURING out from underneath my truck and i could smell it burning. Even after making what could have passed as a smoke signal in clutch smoke we were able to back out of the hole, climb up and out of the ditch, and carry on our way. Even after torcher such as this i have NEVER had a problem with my clutch, pretty sure its factory. 176,000 miles on the clock
  2. what about for a stroker on 35s??? 8)
  3. That looks nice  It unfortuate that such a large company like C2C would have such a poor product, good steel or not. I had no luck searching for a "mopar" rocker panel, i don't even know what to search. :dunno: sigh. . I guess I don't have much choice but to go to the junkyard :( . But i don't see how an XJ rocker will fit an MJ? :huh???:
  4. ya cause i am curious as to how much work it is going to take to make it work. Honestly, some one should write a letter to the company or somthing cause if the fit is as bad as what you guys are sayin, they shouldnt be allowed to maket it as a jeep comanche part, just my honest opinion. :dunno:
  5. I don't mind have to cut and bend a little so long as the general shape is OK and the door still shuts, I would like to see some pics if you have any. and if C2C is not exactly the greatest do you know of another supplier? How about Shermans?
  6. Here is a company i was considering, but if you look at their rocker panel it doesnt look right :???: http://c2cfabrication.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=1_21_38&products_id=16124 This is not mine, but for all intents and purposes its exactly the same. Image Not Found The red arrows mark where the "new" rocker panel seems to be cut off flat, and the blue arrows mark where the "notch" seems to be cut out, maybe its all just my imagination, but I would like to buy a replacement rocker for the DRIVER side.
  7. 4lo?
  8. , how well did it pull it? What gears are you running?
  9. Hey yall, I know comanche made a metric ton package for heavier loads, but i was just curious whats the heaviest thing you have ever towed with your truck. As for myself, i used my truck to pull my 17ft all aluminum bass boat with a 70 outboard, i would guess it weighed about 2500 boat and trailer together. I've also had about 1000lbs of firewood in the bed, needless to say she was squattin a bit.
  10. Fuel pump ballast relay has had it, yes that electrical tape holding it together. I would replace it but i can't seem to find a new one anywhere. i've read that it can be bypassed but i just wanted to be doubly sure. Image Not Found
  11. How important is it to preserve these pieces? Image Not Found I have already cut them out and think that i could reuse them if i had to, but it would'nt be easy, what are they for anyway?
  12. Before this thread is compeletly dead, there is something i would like to understand. That is, does the TCU and ECU communcate during either OBD1 or Renix era? If they don't, meaning that there are NO wires that go to both devices, this should mean that the plugs that go from the TB to the TCU could be unplugged, removed, and simply plugged back in, no need for a total harness swap. For anybody else thinking of doing this swap don't follow this writeup, http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1053970 I'm sure some of whats in there is good stuff you can go on, but just make sure you do your homework before taking the plunge.
  13. Terrific! That means i'm back to square one. Wish i had know that to start with, but anyway thanks for making it clear hornbrod.
  14. Yeeesss i know that, but if you read above one of the guys said that i will have to swap the entire engine bay harness from 90 to 91 91s don't have a knock sensor, my 90 does, the only thing i can think of is that the plug for the knock sensor is still there its just not used on 91s and later, if thats the case then all this :wall: was over nothing.
  15. ya sorry that was kinda vague :dunce: , I guess i ment all the rest of the engine bay harness, temp sensors (mine has 3), map, CPS, fuel pump balast relay, stuff like that. Will the rest of it be "plug and play? and sense you reinforced what i already suspected, that the 91 does NOT have a knock sensor what am i supposed to do??? My engine relies on a knock sensor, even more so when it becomes a new born stroker in about a week . If I go with this aw4 am i just supposed to turn a blind eye and have no knock sensor? IMHO that doesnt sound to good.
  16. um, i'm not swapping motors if thats what you mean.
  17. Good to know about the speedo, but i have ran into another problem that i don't see a way out of. My 90 has a knock sensor, from what i have been told the 91 does NOT, doesnt it even have an O2? Soo if i have to swap out the ENTIRE engine harness what am i supposed to do about this :( ? What about the rest of the sensors, plugs, and missalineous dodas?
  18. are you talking about the speedo?
  19. thanks guys, so as of now it sounds like the swap will be "doable" as long as i get the needed items. Confusion 1. I thought the transmission wiring harness was separate from the engine bay harness, run together but not connected, straight from TB to TCU, no offshoots, which would mean that I would not need to replace my entire wiring harness :ack: 2. CAD was bypassed a LOONG time ago, so thats a checkerooO 3. 242 or 231? can i make my 231 work? would i want to? 4. Does this mean neither speedos are electronic?? If it is electronic how do i go about swapping that style?? Keep in mind mine is the old Renix, mechanical.
  20. also something i didnt think of until now, will his T-case operate like mine? or will it be different, mine: 2hi (straight up) 4hi (over right) N (up again) 4lo not sure what style its called, trackloc? how can i tell if his will have that 4hi 'part time' 4hi 'full time' setting? what would it take to make it work?
  21. Thats a Check on everything except the speedo, if it is electronic how am i supposed to make it work with the rest of my cluster?? seeing how it is the old renix style :???: I will need his TB also, TPS and all that :fs2: from what i understand the wires that go from the throttle body to the tcu are a straight shot, meaning they may be woven into the harness, but they don't split off and go to other places. right or wrong?
  22. guy said he would give me the t-case thats attached to it 8) , I talked with they guy for quite a while and he said he thinks he has everything i would need. The only problem we could forsee were driveshaft lengths, the transmission was pulled out of a cherokee, I (obviously) have a comanche, short bed to be exact. Will i have to get different driveshafts? IIRC aw4 shafts are. . . shorter? :dunno:
  23. Can i swap a 91 HO aw4 into a 90 renix comanche with the ax-15 talking about transmission here Is there anything out of the ordinary that i would need? thanks guys
  24. Damn! thats some serious reinforcement, i don't really understand what you used it for though? :dunno:
