  1. We got done, and my buddy and I agreed that if it had not been too late to get them, we would have replaced them with the proper bolts. I think having the external torx bolts would have made this job very easy.
  2. Took longer than expected. The bolts had been changed out to metric hex heads, (took a 14mm wrench) which were right up against the flywheel cover. For some reason, the flywheel cover would not come off. The exhaust was slightly in the way, also there is a transmission support rod in the way as well. At any rate, it is done now. IF I have to do it again, I'll be changing out the bolts for something easier to get a tool onto. It was also raining here....slowing us down considerably.
  3. The funky bolts have been replaced with standard hex head bolts. The exhaust sure looks like it is in the way of the bolt closest to the engine. I also have a transmission support rod, but it does not look like it is in the way of it coming out.
  4. Hey all, The starter on my 90 2.5L is going out. I got under it tonight to assess the situation of how it comes out. Looks like 2 bolts go straight up from underneath. Both bolts are in pretty close proximity to the edge of the flywheel opening. I can easily see getting the outer one off with a box wrench. Any tricks to get the other bolt out? (the one close to the engine, between the starter and the engine) Id really rather not have to remove the exhause to get it out. About the only thing I could come up with is a swivel and a "crows foot" on a ratchet. Any help/tricks would be great. -Erin
  5. So...Keeping the MJ until I find a decent XJ to hop on.....
  6. Hey All, I thought Id post this up here....I am thinking about selling/trading my MJ. Its a 1990 2wd sport truck. 142K. It runs great, and drives good. As with every MJ, it needs some love. Id love to trade it on an XJ....(something with 4wd and AC) Plus, I am finding I need the seating room more than the cargo room. Looking to do this asap. Anybody in MN interested in a trade? It seems like the classifieds do not get a lot of responses....? I thought Id post here before letting it loose on Craigslist. -Erin Edit: This would come with any extra parts I have, plus, new C2C Rockers and new cab corners.
  7. Maybe I need to clarify for you lsmurphy: IF he does not want to spend the extra money for the tempered glass (which btw, I do know it NEEDS to be) That Lexan, or Plexiglass is a decent substitute. I was pretty sure the OP could figure this out on his own.
  8. Any glass shop can order tempered glass in any size/shape. You may need to take the replacement glass and the frame to a hardware store to get it replaced. IF you do not need tempered glass, then YES the window can be replaced with Plexiglass, or Lexan.
  9. Try your local hardware store that does glass for storm windows. If you can remove the frame from the back of the camper shell, they should be able to replace the window. (most storm windows are riveted, or screwed together) Most "mom and pop" hardware stores can handle this type of window...good luck.
  10. Ok...cool. I'll have a crawl under there when it is not 100 degrees out and see what I'm really up against. -E.
  11. Thanks! I'll look one up. In the meantime, are there clips that hold the line up? I have heard most folks just drop them out of the way
  12. Hey folks, A very gracious friend has offered to help weld in my floors (while I am recovering from a pinched nerve) My question is, I assume you have to drop the fuel line? I have not had a close look at how they come down from the side of the truck. Any info would be great. -Erin
  13. Thanks Dave! I really do not want the surgery!
  14. I am hoping to NOT have surgery, but do physical therapy instead. I have a buddy who I think will be helping me to get some of the welding done....
  15. Hey all, Just thought Id share, I haven't posted in a while. I have been diagnosed with Acute Ulnar Neuropathy. In short, I have a pinched nerve in my elbow that affects the feeling in my ring and pinky finger on my left hand. the effect is complete loss of feeling in those 2 fingers. Also as a result I have lost muscle tissue between my thumb and index finger, which leaves me with almost no strength in my left hand. I go in for a nerve function at the end of the month, and then 8+ weeks of occupational therapy. So...My welding plans for my MJ are on hold until I regain some of my hand function.....Ugh. The silver lining? The doc did assure me it was Ok to do some 12oz arm curls and lift some Rolling Rock. :D -E.
  16. I may be out of line, but their prices seem pretty outrageous....
  17. Finally after replacing all but 2 of the cooling system hoses, It is leak free. I will be replacing the last 2 hoses next month on payday. Still practicing welding....I am nowhere near skilled on it yet. Meanwhile my exhaust system is also on its way out. PO bought the cheapest junk he could find. The back of the muffler is almost completely rusted through already....Ugh.
  18. Thanks Airspeed! Had me worried there for a bit while I was driving it!
  19. Hey All, My Idiot light came on today (and off) Id say less than a few minutes at a time. No sign of over-heating. I did just replace my water pump, upper and lower radiator hoses, heater core hose to the heater valve, and the heater valve. Would the light come on if there were an air pocket? I have an open system! (radiator cap!) What gives? Any thoughts would be great. -Erin p.s.- Will the idiot light come on if the overflow tank is low on coolant? (ie, a fill level sensor)
  20. There is a photo on the 2nd page of my "build" viewtopic.php?f=7&t=31908&start=15
  21. Cruiser....Does this "mod" also work with 2.5l?
  22. Yep. I'm actually looking in to a steam cleaning. The PO let the valve cover leak for an extreme amount of time. (there is at least a 1/4 inch of buildup all over the block.) I did power wash it once with some engine brite, and some of the crud came off, but Id like to get it really cleaned up so I can see what else might be leaking.
  23. Of course, its going to drive me insane till the stink burns off....
  24. And of course, I still smell coolant....the upper hose was leaking after I got everything together, so...I'm sure the fan sprayed coolant into crevices I cannot see....but...NO LEAKS! Yeah!
