Addco 543 Front Sway Bar
acfortier replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Woah, that's a great price! I found someone local selling the Addco 543 set for $80, figured that was worth the $$ rather than going the JY route, since I would need new bushings and all that. Was thinking about going to get a Blazer rear bar and do that, but it still seems like there may be a few of the Addco rear kits around. -

Yeah, that makes sense. Just seems odd that they list them out separately, since the V8 was available starting in 1993, right? -
Addco 543 Front Sway Bar

It just looks like different part numbers for the different years. I checked on their website, 516 for the 93-95, 543 for the 96-98. They physically look different, too. -
Will this work/fit on a Comanche? I'm seeing that they list this for a 96-98 ZJ, and then they have the Addco 516 for XJ/93-95 ZJ. I thought all years of a ZJ sway bar would fit a Comanche?

No worries!

A couple of updates, but no pictures. I'm bad at remembering to take pictures as I get things done. Added fog light wiring + fog lights. I snagged a harness from a XJ to help understand how they work, and got some Weather Pack connectors from Amazon. I ended up re-doing the 10-pin connector with a 12-pin Deutsch connector since mine was all corroded. After a few hiccups, they work! Man, mounting them on the bumper is a real pain. Do most people drop the bumper to do it? I swapped out the header panel with the spare that I had, but not really happy with the fitment. My plans are to eventually hand it over to a body shop to get it all dolled up, but that will be some time. From my initial list above... Ordered a Crown CPS + hopefully getting a OEM ignition coil via @eaglescout526, specifically the one outlined by HOrnbrod here: https://comancheclub.com/topic/51677-9192-mj-premature-ignition-coil-failure-fix-relocation/ It looks like a worth-while upgrade. Purchased a ZJ coil to get the bracket that was outlined there as well. Ended up using an Accel unit, as mentioned above. Have the CPS, but won't bother replacing until the engine dies on me again. Ordered a set of mirrors from Quadratec, which said they were in stock, but now they are out of stock. Hopefully they'll fulfill them. Still waiting, website says Oct. 10... so who knows? Went by the junkyard and got a passenger front window regulator for $25. Pretty good shape, I think it was from a '96. Beats paying $100 via eBay. Purchased a headlight harness from Amazon, will be doing that upgrade. Purchased a Ford Ranger cargo light from LMC Truck, hoping it'll fit and look nice. Wanted something that looked like it fit era, I think this will do. Hoping to get a stock cargo light from another member on here. Will be purchasing the NOS grille guard from @Kaiserman on Sunday Picked it up Hoping to find a jack + tool kit set Actually my stepdad had a leftover set from another Cherokee they used to own, so I got the handle + jack, but no lug wrench. Have some leftover Noico 80 mil sound deadening sheets, will purchase some more so I can slap that down as well. Couple new things to add: Will most likely go to the JY tomorrow and snag a MC from a 95-96 XJ to do a quick swap in upgrade. I was going to get new swaybar bushings since mine are completely shot, but I decided that I'll try to snag a larger swaybar from another donor at the JY. Mine is a 24mm, hoping for a 28mm. Had some water in the cab after a rainstorm last week. Not sure if it was coming in through the doors, as I ripped the plastic to get to the window regulator/door check, but will eventually needs to do a water test with a hose to see if I can track it down. I think the clutch MC is leaking, but not sure. Hoping to buy a decent cover as it'll be stored outdoors all winter. Probably spend some $$$ on a custom Coverking one. Hopefully getting a NOS ignition cylinder to replace the one I have, as the key doesn't stay in. It'll be nice to have more than one key, and I'll get the door cylinders matched at a local locksmith. Got a R12a recharge kit from Frosty Cool, need to charge the A/C and hope for the best. @kryptronic let me know if there was anything else that needed to be done with the A/C system, I think it just needed a full charge? Also, just got the other parts today--thanks! Title came in today. Will eventually need to take it to get it inspected, but no rush.

Gah, OK. The one that I had one was cracked in the center, and missing a few of the screw holes... This one is in better condition but the fitment is terrible. I have a huge gap where it meets the hood now, but I might be able to massage it a bit closer. Eventually, I'll want this truck in the body shop to be cleaned up and painted, but that can wait for now.

There's a parts catalog for 1990 here: https://xjjeeps.com/

Does anyone have any experience with the quality of aftermarket header panels? I'm less than thrilled with the fitment of mine, and it's got a few cracks here and there. Additionally, I broke off one of the tabs on the headlight surround, and the grill is cracked as well. Crown has one for $300, I see another kit going for $150. https://www.carparts.com/details/Jeep/Cherokee/Replacement/Header_Panel/1991/Base/KIT1-111116-49-B.html?TID=gglpla&origin=&utm_source=google&utm_medium=pla&utm_campaign=12013144440&gclid=Cj0KCQjwm9yJBhDTARIsABKIcGZp4LD7eBJyysTn1M3njsGeuUuSQzNQ_m5jePfKXBCw7kvT8NRYKNwaArYaEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I'll be storing my Comanche outside during the winter (no plans on driving it). Does anyone have any recommendations on a cover that fits pretty good?
-
Yep, picked up the nicer one from Harbor Freight (https://www.harborfreight.com/10-in-professional-rivet-nut-setter-kit-58078.html) as it already included larger rivnuts. Haven't gotten a chance to tackle this yet, but I think the M8 size might be big enough to fit in the large oval hole.
-
That’s definitely crossed my mind… I’m not sure if the new fenders come with the studs haha
-
With the nutsert tool?
-
Ooo that would definitely work for the upper one. The lower hole might be too big… I’d have to check it.
-
I want to avoid welding if possible—I think it’s too tight of a space to be able to do that. And welding is a pain, haha.
-
Yeah, I’m thinking this is going to be a creative solution. I wonder if I could precisely cut out a square for a carriage bolt? Not even sure what tool I’d use to do that. I guess that would only work for the top—bottom hole is already too big. JB weld a bolt to the inner fender so that the stud sticks out?
-
It seems that I'm missing (sort of) two of the 4 studs that are used to hold the header panel to the body. The top one on the driver's side is missing, and the bottom one was replaced by a normal bolt, but you'd have to get a socket on it from inside the wheel well in order to tighten it... kinda a pain. What's the best way for me to get replacement bolt/studs in the two holes without welding? Pic of issue: Pic of good side:

Don't kill yourself over the coil! I can survive with an Accel brand one.
-
I wonder if I'm able to get the door cylinders recoded to the new ignition cylinder from a locksmith? Google-fuing says yes. @eaglescout526 if you're able to get your hands on one, LMK (I know you're already looking for the coil, too--thanks a bunch!)
-
Hey, I'll take whatever I can get my hands on. Let me know if you're able to snag one @eaglescout526. What about key blanks? I see 4637592 as the part #, but can't seem to find any via my Google-fuing.
-
The key I currently have for my '91 can be pulled out of the ignition without using the locking lever. I'd like to replace it, and get a few spare keys with it (since I only have one), and have it coded so that it matches the door locks. What are the part numbers I should be looking for? Aftermarket is fine, but I'd like to have some Jeep logo keys if possible.

Got around to replacing the ignition coil with an Accel unit. Also decided to take the time to relocate it. Had some pretty nasty cracks on the OE one: Used the existing bracket and drilled a few holes on the firewall lip to mount it: Had to get a new spark plug wire and extend the harness to reach, but everything fires up!

Looking to see if anyone has a spare cargo light + switch (or just the bezel) for sale. Let me know, thanks!

Wiring up Fog Lamps w/ stock harness
acfortier replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks! I'm seeing that the PNK/GRN wire that feeds the relay comes from the PDU... I have a 15A fuse in the AUX LAMP position, funny that I don't have a wire coming from it. EDIT: I lied, I do have that PNK/GRN wire coming into the headlight harness, which must be coming from the AUX LAMP.
