I am thinking of pulling the carpet up and putting some noise dampening material in my self.. or upping my audio to compensate for the noise You will be happy you spent the time to put the foam behind the dash.. If was such a pain installing that and then trying to fit the dash in that i ended up leaving it out and i may end up regretting it come summer time with the amount of heat that comes through some of the holes that aren't sealed as well as i thought they were. project is looking great though, keep up the good work

I thought that too for a while. Then I just went for it. Its less about nerve more about patience. Its not very difficult to do, just somewhat time consuming and if you're doing it by yourself it can take a toll on you. I'm glad I did mine, but I won't be doing it again if I can help it. Looks like you're well on your way Backdraft. Your's looks a little familiar... I agree.. a lot of snags that were more frustrating than anything else.. looking good so far Backdraft.. I can tell you that the dash mounts don't line up (at least not from the 87 dash to the 2000 dash) but you look like you've got a grip on the welding, so it shouldn't be a problem to weld in new tabs. What are you planning on doing with the seats? Making mounts for the XJ buckets to fit the MJ studs? I cut the front support out of the XJ and brought it with the seats and then welded it in the front and placed studs in the back of the seat brackets.. Good luck with the rest, if you run into anything, I will try and help you out.. I am still in the process of finishing mine up but its coming together.

Thanks for the pictures.. the one he has doesn't mount the same, probably came off another truck like an s10 or dakota.

thanks for that thread recommendation some how i missed that during my search.. the mounting setup for the "stock" one looks closer to the reese one pictured in that thread.. if you get a chance to snap a photo or two that would be great, thanks.

Does anyone have a picture of what the stock MJ hitch looks like (either installed or on the floor).. I have been going through the old threads and looking at the write ups for the Draw-Tite #75021 MJ Hitch and trying to compare it to what a junk yard is telling me is the stock hitch they pulled from an MJ.. I am trying to compare the actual mounting system of the MJ stock hitch (according to the junk dealer) and the mounting setup I am seeing here on the old (no longer made) MJ hitch from Draw-Tite http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index. ... cts_id=209 Trying make sure I don't buy a part that will do me no good on my build

i did a search for posts made by 'ivanonlysix' and didn't find anything, is there a project post showing his conversation all finished?

I am doing the same idea with the head liner.. did you use anything special to get the speaker pods to stay? I know the head liner before was put up using Velcro, is that what you used? Looks great!

Well I had a friend say he could paint the truck for me, but it had to be the day next so I only had time to prep the body and fix a few things.. I did what I could with it. the dash mod needed a place to mount since it didn't have a spot for the tabs to line up Just a piece of steel welded to make tabs worked great.. If there is something specific you are thinking at mounting let me know and I will try and remember where I put things and how..

ok.. so I have been around the forum (mostly reading) for a little while so I thought I would share the progress on the project. Started with a 1987 MJ long bed.. All in all it was in really good shape, minimal rust, no frame rust/damage, floor pans had a few small pin holes but nothing serious. I really lucked out in finding this MJ.. Once I got the truck I started pulling it apart, so that I could replace it with my 2000 XJ parts. Instead of flooding the forum with pictures I created a little site that has all of them uploaded in different phases.. right now I am trying to get it running again (changing the gas tank to a fuel cell setup).. Enjoy. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1413656/mj/mjhomepage.html After getting new rear leafs and switching them to be spring over, the truck has a pretty decent ride height.. can't wait to get it out.

2000 XJ power train in my MJ
kineticMJ replied to BHelton's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I actually have that genright piece and I am getting ready to setup fuel cell in place of the stock MJ tank, once I finish it up I will let you know how it goes.. -
probably shouldn't be allowed around any object with a point... I thought he had the tree tied to the truck and was going to pull it over, result would have been the same, but the entertainment value would have gone up.

How far you looking to travel to get it? Heading south might be your best option, get out of the states that salt their roads for winter time. There are a couple of listings in VA, they don't say much in the listing but might be worth shooting them an email and seeing if its any good. http://roanoke.craigslist.org/cto/2181831975.html http://fredericksburg.craigslist.org/cto/2192034795.html if you come to VA to get one and you are looking for the a 4.0L for it, I have one for sale http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=28380
