i have finaly decided to post about my project, first a quick history: Me and my brother in law have always loved jeeps, comanches in perticular. i got my first comanche when i was 16 or 17, so young so nieve, here is my post on that truck: http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1351&highlight= I still hate that guy  so i decided after it sitting and taking up space in my parents yard, i did what any person would do... bought another one! they are both 87's, stright 6 4x4. i hope to have it up and going by the winter, the floors were the worst part had to get floor pans and replace them. it took a while, a long while to get them in, I'm sure it would be a day project for most of the guys on here but I'm not too skilled in that kind of stuff, hopefully this will be a good learning experience. here are some pics of the progress: old parts comanche: New one: I plan on making the doors that came on the new one (they had some rock rash on them) i was able to get them off and the new ones on, it took a long time but i probably went about it the long way. all in all so far that turned out well, i used the idea that other on the board have used, i cut off the bottom, but instead of using the pin, i use some steel rod from home depot and had someone weld them in. here are some pics of the floor pan: after i get the floor in and the drivers seat back on, it is proving to be a pain in the bum, i will have it towed to a local garage where i will have the slave cylinder replaced, a job that i don't want to tackel cause it involves droping the transfer case. then i will have to patch up the rockers, fix the exhaust, replace whatever the guy that owned it before me decided to cut off or break, then it should be road... scratch that, it should be OFF road worthy. (Question on the rockers if anyone has the answer, the replacement ones that you can buy, what exactly do they cover, is it just the area just below the door, or does it go all the way to the back of the cab and further toward the front? i don't think that they do but it would make things a lot easier if they did.) then down the line, i have plans for a spare tire holder that will be awsome, but for now its top secret ;) for now, though i just recieved the most important equiptment for an off road comanche, the sound equiptment yea i know, not important, but i can't do without music, so here is what i got: all Eclipse stuff as i was able to get a killer deal on them. head unit: Eclipse 3000 Speakers: Eclipse 4x6 and 2 sets of 5 1/4 (one set for the half doors also) Other: Eclipse Ipod adaptor that stuff will be going in when the truck is ready to move though. then down the road i will put in a cb so my brother in law can talk on the trail. by the buy, my brother in law has a off road, under water worthy wrangler that i currently out of commishion due to tranny problems, right now he has a 88 2 wheel drive comanche that he picked up for 400 bucks, replaced the gas tank from my parts, and had the breaks fixed it its road worthy, plans are to take the 4x4 parts off my old comanche and transplant them into his. hopefully updates will be posted cause that will mean that I'm getting closer to finishing it. thanks for your time, sorry for spelling and grammer, besides there is no use for proper grammer on the interweb ne way Jonathan

i have 2 sets of doors, one in good condition, and one in less then ok, i plan on making the poo ones into half doors, the thing is that the poo ones have vented teardrop windows the other does not. my question is can you swap the vent windows? or is there something special about the door frame? is there any way to make it work? thanks, Jonathan

I will see about taking pictures of the bench brackets, but it may be hard, I'm working a lot and the bench is still on it, i don't want to spend the energy to take it off it it won't fit. i had to pull out the buckets in order to get a good look at my lack of a floor, rusty bolts and me gettin annoyed means pulling the seat out of the door and jumping on it till something gave, hense the need for new brackets, i wasnt thinking about the future
-
the thing is that the seats I'm looking to put in are MJ seats, i was wondering if the MJ bench brackets will work with MJ bucket seats? everyone seams to think i want/have seats out of cherokees or xj seats, but I'm looking to see if MJ bench brackets will mount up with MJ bucket seats. Thanks, Jonathan

i have seen a lot of seat posts, i have searched and have not been able to find my answer so here is the question: Can i use bench seat brackets as bucket seat brackets? i have a manche with bench and one with buckets, i had to pull out the buckets to redo my floor, and in the process i demolished the seat brackets, did they make different brackets for the bench and buckets or are the all interchangable? thanks, Jonathan

Found less rust than I thought...
lostissues replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i just got full floor pans for both sides of my 87, this is my first project so I'm not sure on everything, i asked about the floor pans http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1323 i bought mine from shermans, they seam to fit, with a little persuasoin and some cutting, here are some pics. not sure how well this will turn out, hopefully well, they fit pretty good. -
wondering if anyone that has messed with their doors could answer something, how did you get the door hinge seperated from the hinge attached to the cab, the pin that goes through it doesnt seam like it will slip out when hit with a hammer and something to push on it. where you able to cut the pin? i tried to cut it with a hacksaw but it is too tough, anyone got any ideas? thanks, Jonathan

easy fix or parts truck?
lostissues replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
here are a few pictures to show the rust damage, from the response it seams to be leaning towards a parts truck, oh well at least i still have one ok/good comanche. thanks, Jonathan -
ok a little story, i bought an 87 when i was 16 or 17 like 4 or 5 years ago, i expected it to be my daily driver, first truck, i have always liked jeeps and like how the comanche is more or less a rare jeep, you don't see many all over the place. well i bought it "as is" for 900 bucks, unfortunatly the specks that were posted on the truck were not accurate, "will pass inspection with no problem" realy ment "holes in floor, frame rotted and engine stalls" well i was young and didnt know any better, bondo for the floors, they were small enough holes, and was told that it wouldnt pass inspection unless i fixed the frame. more or less the damage is under the back of the can the frame is rotted out, the whole bottom looks and feels like it was patched with sheet metal, thin sheet metal that rusted away, i realy don't like the seller. well anyway, flash to now, i have found another 87 and bought it, floors are rotted, this time i knew, bought floor pans (thanks Jeepthing07 for pointing me to the site, i orderd full pans for both sides) to fix that, and now i just need to replace the clutch slave cylinder. and then i should have a running manche, finaly after 5 years. anyway my question is is there any real way to easily patch up a frame? am i looking at a lot of cash to do it? or should i just tear whatever off it for the new truck and have it taken away? sorry for the long boring story with bad spelling, thanks in advance, Jonathan

i have 2 87 mj's and i was going to use the doors on the parts truck as half doors on the other, i was going to take off the doors but it is a b*@$£ of an angle to get to the t45 bolts that hold the hinge on the door and i ended up striping them out. how did you guys get the doors off in the first place? is there a special trick to it? i tried to cut through just the pin that goes through all three pieces but it proved to be pain to get through with an airsaw and a sawsall, i may have been using the wrong blades though. does cutting off the bottom hinge part weakin the hinge at all? thanks, Jonathan

jeep comanche parts, floors, rockers
lostissues replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
thanks for the photo, i think that will work quite nicely, i may have to add a little metal up on the transmission tunnel cause it may be a little short, is that the full pan thats like $116 or just the front sections ones for $62? i think that the full is all the way back for the cherokee. anyway thanks for all the information, once i figure out which one it is i will be placing my order. it looks as if i will finally be able to get my comanche project up and going. Thanks, Jonathan -
jeep comanche parts, floors, rockers
lostissues replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
do you happen to have a picture of the replacement pans? the rust damage is prette extensive, i had to cut out most of the floor and part way up the hump over the transmission. also which site did you order yours from, the later of the two only seams to have parts for ford chevy and dodge, i didnt see any jeep. Thanks, Jonathan -
hello, I'm wondering if there is any place that sells drop in floor pans or rocker pannels for an 89 manche, i have two, one has a bad frame and the other is ok except that the floor is just about gone and the rocker pannels are rusted through, i have a friend who started welding in another floor kinda patch work, it isnt turning out the way i imagened it. i would love it if there was just the floor pan i could drop in and tack down or if anyone has a better/easier idea that i could do. Thanks, Jonathan
