  1. thanks
  2. gonna replace the rear main seal in my 4.0 within the next day or two. when i put the main bearing cap back on, what's the torque spec for the bolts holding it on?
  3. buy a 3" lift, they're a lot cheaper than the the spring over kits. install it, then buy a set of TJ flares, cut your fenders to fit them and put 'em on. this will give you more than enough room to fit 33's, will keep your center of gravity low for stability at speeds (and keep it low enough to put your bike in. Once you start lifting a truck, the higher you go will bring you a lot more headaches. keep it low (3" vs 5.5") and throw on a set of big flares. i have this setup and am running 35s, so 33's will no prob
  4. ok, so the tie rod of a ZJ is bigger than the MJ, but what about the TRE's? will our TRE's thread into the ZJ tie rod? or do you have to use the ZJ TRE's? will the ZJ TRE's fit into the holes where the MJ TRE's fit (do you have to ream the holes to fit ZJ TRE's?)
  5. is this the perch you guys are using? it works well? http://www.rubiconexpress.com/Products. ... 7C55788231
  6. i've never measured, but aren't MJ leafs 2.5" wide, not 2"?
  7. sorry, i guess i shoulda been more clear. by "trac" bar, i meant "traction" bar minus the "tion" at the end, not "track" bar. i know the difference, i shoulda written it more clearly i considered longer perches, but my springs are pretty soft, i think even with those, they'd twist. never thought of the extra main leaf though, thanks guys oh yeah, and keep'em coming! the more ideas i get to choose from the better
  8. I'm gearing up to do a SOA with an 8.8 in the rear of my MJ and I'm looking for ideas for a trac bar, to alleviate axle wrap. for those of you who have done the SOA, can you post up a pic or two of what you came up with for a trac bar? thanks,
  9. what are you doing to fight axle wrap? i'm about to do a springover with an 8.8 and i'm looking for ideas for a trac bar
  10. my MJ currently has a 3" lift on it, and i'm getting ready to SOA the rear, and plan on putting spacers up front to match the height. yes, i will be taking out the AAl from the rear when i do the SOA. does anybody know what length control arms i'll need for the front when it's all done? stock locations for the rear mounts. wanna keep/restore the caster angle to original specs......thanks
  11. i've got 35's on mine with only 3" of lift.....and lot of fender cutting. after putting on TJ flares, there isn't much front fender left. it's super low and stable--it's actually wider than it is tall  i will be adding more lift soon tho, as the front tires rub on a pinch seam inside the fenders. if you wanna keep COG low, i suggest going with as small a lift as possible, and cutting the body to put on TJ flares. so, for 37's, i'd say 6" lift, TJ flares, then wheel the wee outta it til it breaks! then show us the pics....
  12. sweet.....now i have to go have a look...
  13. anybody know if any 2wd MJ's came with a D44? i just bought 35's and i know my D35 will break soon. not too many MJ's around in Atlantic Canada--Jeep sheetmetal + Atlantic winters + road salt = dead Jeeps. there are a few 2wd MJ's in a junkyard near here, just wondering what the odds of either having a D44 for me to pluck......
  14. the problem, and this is EVERYWHERE, is the difference between "offroaders" (us, people who take offroading seriously as a pastime), and "yocals". just local idiots who have a 4x4 and go out terrorize the country-side-usually drunk. it only takes a couple of those idiots to ruin things for those of us who actually care about offroading here in New Brunswick, we're not facing trail closures yet, but we are facing vehicles being pulled off the road. these are vehicles that are properly built (99xj, 3" lift, 31" tires; 03TJ 4"lift, 35's; and others) check out www.4x4preservation.ca for more info
  15. you'll be fine....i ran 33" boggers on my old yj with the D35 and never broke anything. and i'm kinda hard on riggin'. besides, there are a kajillion D35 shafts sitting out there in ppl's garages just waiting to be swapped in on the trail! do it, grab a couple of spare shafts....go wheel the wee out of it, when it breaks, fix it, wheel some more!
  16. what's involved in doing an xj rear axle swap? does it give you any lift? what springs do you use?
  17. mehh, i only paid 800 bones for the truck, just something cheap to run for a year or two till i get something bigger, better, more expensive. i'm not gonna put a bunch of money into only to see it rust out from underneath me next year ( i live in New Brunswick, on the east coast of Canada and they put a lot of salt on the roads in the winter) 4-link and coils not an option, i have no fab skills or money to pay somebody with fab skills to do it. as for the xj/mj lift.....i dunno, the lift was already on the truck when i bought it i'll prollly just get somebody to make me a set of longer shackles
  18. hahaha, you're funny! take lift out....that's a good one! no, actually, i am planning on putting in a small spacer to lift it up a little more, cutting the fenders, and running 33's. if i lift the front another inch, i'll need to put another two or three inches in the rear to level it out. I just don't want to go through the hassle of doing a spring-over. i figure 4" total lift, and cut fenders will be fine....keep a low centre of gravity. my BDS kit is an add-a-leaf in the rear, so it's stiff enough already.... not sure adding another leaf is a good idea. thanks for the info guys!
  19. Hello all, i've got a 91 swb with a 3" BDS lift. (new coils and add-a-leafs) i just bought it and i've noticed that the assend sits prolly about an inch lower than that front. and that's with the box empty. it's not a big deal, i just hate the look of it. i've heard that dakota leaf packs may fit, and also F150s. any suggestions/solutions? oh, and if i go with leafs out of something else, how much lift are they gonna give me?
