soooo, now the rear axle is off. there was no brake hardware on it except for the brake lines, (going to replace them) and the drum brake backing plates. the bolts holding on the backing plates were too rusted to get off by means of wrench and socket, so i ground them off, and hammered out the bolts. now the backing plates are off (going to get new ones anyways) and i need them completely off. how do i get them off? i think i need to pull the shafts. do the shafts just slide out? i gave them a slight pull and nothing happened. any help would be appreciated!! -
hehe good question. he said they were "helper springs" but i don't really see how they do anything. CW...thanks a lot, ill be searching in about 1 minute!!

not yet. thats the thing that i need to find out. my uncle is pretty savvy with brakes, and he has helped me out a little so far. I'm going to have him help me with the problem. i was thiunking of getting the brakes on the axles all set so when he helps me...they are ready to go. -
so the brakes on my 1990 XJ work fine, and the brakes on my 88 MJ don't work at all. i want to just do a simple swap, but I'm wondering about compatability. the XJ has abs...but I'm not sure about the MJ. what parts are compatible. i know the rotors shouldnt matter, but what about the calipers, or the master cylinder, or the brake lines? thanks!

Ive been picking away at small things over the past few weeks. Ive been spraying the brake lines with PB Blaster so i can take them off, but one of them just snapped in half. now the axle can come out so i can sand/paint it and put some brakes on. Ive also taken out the shift computer out of my XJ, and put it in the MJ. I looked and the fise was gone too, so i changed that and i think its working. onto the pics! how it sat this afternoon... Floors. Only surface rust mind you..nothing has gone through... Pic of rear axle, and a nice little can on PB blaster... Pic of drivers side rocker pannels... Donor XJ... And this is hanging down from the frame. brake lines go to it...then to the axle, what is it exactly? do i need it? thats it for now. thanks for looking. soon i will be taking out the axle, and sand blasting, and painting it. then assembling the brakes on it then putting it back. oh and those wimpy 3 ton jackstands will be replaced by some 6tons that i got today. they are too short and feel un-safe to be under.

So here is my MJ, practicaly the day that she arrived home with us. D44 b*@$£!! It needs brakes, front and rear. Nothing happens when you press the pedal...it goes to the floor. The shift computer is not there. When in D it goes to 4th gear. 1-2, 3, and R work fine. Rear lights don't work either. Minor body work and its as good as new. NO serious rust on the floor, rockers, or frame. Not too bad for $125. My goals are RE 5.5" lift, 35" tires.

wekk ive gone through all 4 of them with my grinder. they didnt really pop off...they made a little bang and that was it.

ok...ive asked a guy at the local jeep club, and he gave me inmfo on what pins provide power. I'm going to test them with a multimeter to see of its getting power.

ok so tonight i put it 1-2 to get an idea of how fast the wheels spin in 1st. then i put it in d. the speedo went up to 15mph and spun hella fast. then i put in the TCM. eagerly i put it in d, and watched the wheels. they spun really fast and the speedo was at 15mph. keep in mind that this was with the TCM from my 1990 XJ. whats wrong here? also...i think that the guy b4 me messed with the NSS cause i can start in in R. what should i do next?
