Not so quick flip... 88/99 swap
KCsurfer420 replied to KCsurfer420's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
We started working on this project as soon as it same in to the shop, when unloading it we realized that the cat was clogged so we cut it out with a saw saw and the mj drove off the trailer. It ran way better than before but it still wasn't running right. We weren't to conserened because we would be stripping the truck down to a shell, painting the entire shell and start fresh will the 99 parts from there. It took us roughly 2 days to get the truck striped completely down. The power steering high side line had been leaking for quite some time because every and I do mean every thing had a coating of power steering fluid on it. To date the original mj motor and the engine bay have been scrubbed with multipal degreesers and power sprayed 5 times thoroughly. That leads us to these pictures. -
Not so quick flip... 88/99 swap

I figured I'd start a thread for the 88 mj that we are working on. This will serve to help me keep track of all of the things that have been done to the truck and help as a little advertisement as the truck will be for sale once the swap is complete. I had picked up a 97 and a 99 xj to part out when this truck came up for sale in Belin NM, so after a discussion with my partner we decided to pick it up for a swap build. I've had quite a few xj's and a few mj's in the past, and this will be my third late model mj swap. The truck is a 88 4.0, ba10, 2wd dana 35, when we picked it up it has a 3.5" lift on it and it was sitting on jk rubicon rims with bfg km2.The interior was rough and it ran but it would fall on its face if I gave it any gas at all. It has a rebuilt 4.0 by a tag on the block. The body is fairly straight, with the exception of the front drivers side inner fender. At some point this mj was in a slight wreck and one of the previous owners decided to try and fix it with a hammer, needles to say it is not prity. I'm not to worried about it because the frame is straight and I am justo going to drill all of the spot welds out of both the mj and the sonar 99 xj and graft in the good iner fender. I've done a fair amount of sheet metal work on my comanche and a few other Cherokees so this should turn out almost OEM... Well on to some pictures...

I have also removed all of the don't suspention as well in prep for the 3 link that I'll be building for it., I have cleaned up the 231/ 300 doubbler and 300 ordered a seal kit for the 300 as its a leaking pile right now. I will be pulling the dash and custom making a dash that will hold the auto meter guages that I have for it.

So I guess I should update where I'm curently at with this project. It's still sitting on jack stands in the garage but I have made a little progress on it. The b pillar skins and Ricker pannels are trashed on this thing after a few years of hard wheeling. I found both b pillars out of 2 diffrent mj's in the yards around me that were clean and straight so I cut them out do the jy trucks with a saw zaw and brought them home where I proceeded to drill all of the spot welds out of them to sepporate just the b pillar outer skins. I did the same thing with the skins on my mj and once all 4 skins were sepporate I burned the new straight skims on to my mj.

Can you hurry up and finish this thing so it won't be tempting me to come by and low ball you for it. I mean come on we just finished the front axle, if it were mine It would have allready been done by now....

Well I've dobbed it the "crapmanche", it's curently sitting in my garage on jack stands minus the axles (sold em) and bed ( scraped it ) it will be getting a flat bed / truggie rear soon. I have a dana 60 / 14b (5.38 gears) combo that's just staring at me in till I have time to swap them in 538 along with a 231/300 doubbler and TG hydro asist. I also have a tj buggie that I have been enjoying so the MJ is on the back burner for the time being. I did how ever replace both crumpled b pillars and welded on some liquid iron industries front stiffners on it. I'll up date with some pics soon.

Thanks for the reply, so your locks are dead too even from the ds door? My locks just don't flat work at all. I pulled the wiring out of the ds door b/c the speaker was dead too. I found a broken wire for the speaker but the other wiring looks to be fine. I'll have to grab another switch at the jy this weekend I guess or realy play with a wiring schematic to chase my issue down. The windows roll up from my side just not from the passenger side and the locks are completely dead....

Hey guys I am almost finished working on my 99 swap in my Comanche and I need to get the door wiring squared away. I used a 4 door harness with a 2 door switch and face plate in my 99 doors and I can roll the windows up and down from the drivers side door but the passenger side switch does not work and neither do the locks from either door. I have pulled both of the switches apart out of both doors and neither one of them had any problems with them. I also jumped the door lock wires and still no avail so I am almost certain that the wiring for the rear XJ doors that are non existent are causing the problem because the harness is seeing no switches at those locations.. I need to get a schematic for the 2 door and the 4 door for the power windows and the door locks so that I can chase down the problem and see If I can just connect the wires at the plugs to close the open circuit and get the locks and the passenger side window switch working. Has any one had this issue with there swap? I'm hoping Alexia will chime in as I believe that he may have crossed this bridge already..

I am looking for a set of b pillar speaker brackets as well as the carpet board for the back of my comanche be hind the seats under the windo. Carpet color doesn't matter as I will be recovering it. Or if any one has one that they can trace out for me on a piece of paper with all of the holes that would be awesome as I can make it out of 1/8" plywood .. shipping would be to 79912. Let me know what you have. Thanks

As the title states I am looking for a 99 to 01 drivers side door panel in agate color with the wood trim. I don't need the switch. This is one of the last things that I need for my 99 limited MJ build. I have a set of hood vents of a labarron hood vents I'd be willing to trade or I'll buy it out right. PM me if you have one... thanks guys...

[/url and this is the wall I was trying to crawl in the pic below... It's 5" tall at the top of an already big hill... I didn't make it but out of 33 jeeps I was the only one to try... Yes I am crazy.... And this is Bert giving a drivers meeting to over 30 wranglers, standing in the back of my mj, notice the sticker on the bumper....

I am trying to upload pics the same way I have for a while now on this site, I copy from photo bucket and paste in to the text box in my build thread, but for some reason it is not pasting in to the text box like normal. What gives. I tried pasting in to an e-mail to see if it was on my side and it is working when I paste to the e-mail... can any one tell me if I have missed something.

for some reason it doesent want to paste my hiper links in to the text box, sorry no pics right now for some reason....

I haven't been doing much work to the truck latley except piling parts up to clean up the passanger side b pillar and a wonton swap, But I have put new 37"crepie crawlers and TMI DIY bead locks in it and wheeling the crap out of it. I thought id share some recent wheeling pics so you could see where we stand with this project. I plan on replacing the short bed with a bobed long bed and using linger leafs to move the axel back, and replacing the passanger side b pillar with a mint one I cut of a truck in the junk yard, then replacing the rockers with 2x6x3/16 square tubing. LEt me know what you think... Here is my new sticker to piss off the wrangler guys, as I am a bit of a $#!& talker on the trail, but I don't mean to offend any one so rember its a JOKE I too once owned a wrangler.
