1. Thank you gentleman for all the posts. I am planning on dressing the engine with all the comanche components. Good thing I asked because we were just about to buy a HO manifold gasket lol As for the sensors, I will neatly bypass the ones we don't need (Knock sensor) and tuck them away for the renix. Thanks again!!
2. Before we get started, anyone want to get out? Turbo-Diesels with Manual or Automatic? (No CVTs ;D)
3. Hello all, So just wanted to get some advice, I am currently working on my friends comanche, its a 89 Short bed 4.0 AW4 NP231J (New process) Whats not awesome is the original 260k engine was burning oil, so last year of HS together, we pulled the drivetrain out, his dad had already pulled everything else out (wiring, manifolds, sensors, etc.) So now we have a rolling manche and we want to get it driving again! So, the plan was, I gave him my old 4.0 out of my YJ (110k) and I was just going to use the HO exhaust manifold and make him a new exhaust and reuse all the renix components. He does not want to uh, "permenently molest" the original wiring and all, so he wants to keep it renix. So basically, if we are just using the 4.0 HO longblock and exhaust manifold. Does anyone see any issues that might arise with the renix junk? If there is a stupid sensor that needs to be uh, persuaded to be bypassed. I will go to a pullyard with 6 renix XJs and pull whatever sensor plug it is and solder whatever resistor it needs to be happy lol. The idea is to rebuild and swap back in eventually the renix. Just figured I'd ask since I am probably not the only one who is doing/done this. Thanks.
4. So many cool vehicles in Spain, the first time I saw a YJ I really like was in the UK. Silver YJ Laredo, 87-89 with the 4.2l lovely looking jeep. The Export spec YJ/XJ/MJs look so good. Nice find, looks like a clean MJ to import!
5. Bump^ Run Redline MT Fluid plus some lucas in all my AX-15s and even in my NV4500. My cherokee AX15 has just over 260k with no issues. I would never run gear oil in a manual transmission, just doesnt work right for protecting the gears & synchros. Proof of this? Go to your local parts store and dig up the old lucas oil hand crank, notice the difference in how the oil lubricates the gears differently. Get a AX15 post 92 so you are guarenteed the 3/4" input shaft and external slave cylinder. If the damn NSG370s wernt so rare I bet a 6 speed comanche would be a hoot to drive!
6. G'day mate! Let me know if you need any parts from the states shipped. I also make trips down to visit familiy every so often in Sydney. What YJ's came to AU? As far as I remember they were imported RHD from the UK models. Last one I saw there was a red import from the US LHD of course. Nice to meet ya and sick find!
7. Well... he did spray the badge on the driver side, and literally the entire outside of the truck, and its like crappy walmart spray can paint too. And its terrible because the paint underneath is perfect. Oh well, now I get to play around some more with a paintgun lol. He did get the tops of the flares but I will be nicely cleaning the rears up and just getting donor flares from the XJ fenders.
8. Its getting a slightly built Mercedes OM617 I5 Turbodiesel its step 11. I want to sell the factory drivetrain before I even start workin on it. Just so its easier. The diesel is coming out of my YJ, and the YJ is getting a built OM617.
9. Yes please, I think I selected the wrong catagory, my bad!
10. Hello! Picked up a 1989 Comanche on Thanksgiving day, made it back in time for supper too! The PO was an old fart who was basically living out of the truck with about a million roaches, so the first thing we did was power wash & soap/degrease the entire truck (inside and out). And it now lives in the backyard waiting for the engine and transmission to sell. The plans are: Tackle the light rust in the floor pans. Remove hood, radiator support, cowl, doors, etc (all damaged body components) Replace parts for anything that is damaged from donor XJs in JY Pull JY Ford 8.8 with 4.10 LSD & D30 4x4 axle with 4.10s Pull JY 8.25, SOA conversion, also pull front D30. Rear ARB and front Aussie Locker. Sandblast exterior completely or 10 gallons of aircraft paint remover Bodywork & prep work <- (this is a little easier said than done :/ ) Paint factory colour if possible, if not something cool? Finish interior including fabricating mounts for new seats (Still can't find blue bucket seats) Lift kit parts 3.5"-4" lift, OME front and Rustys rear springs. Fab new engine mounts Mate AX15 to engine and slap it in. (already done in other jeep) Mated no problem. Need to machine a new pilot bushing before finalizing the conversion. Complete the quest for the ever elusive Drivers-side brake light. Done, thanks Chris! So, I know some will say "Damn, what a $#!&ty looking comanche to do all that work to" and you are correct. I am sure for another $3k I could get a nice looking comanche that didn't need a ton of bodywork. But thats not the point of this build! My goal is to build this truck for use! Not clean enough to baby or garage, but not dirty enough to look like... well how it looks now. I should note the diesel swap stuff is fairly easy, my main hindrance is finding parts and completing the bodywork & paint decently enough. Already looking through a bunch of posts, you guys seem like an awesome group of folks and its awesome to learn from you guys!
11. Awesome find, I noticed both mine are pulled out and missing the factory covers. A bit of blue paint on those VW lights and it would be perfect! bet I have a set lying around, wonder if the Jetta rears are the same? Thanks for posting!
