Chunk of steel in front of steering gear
Lewis E replied to Anthi4078's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I swapped the steering box on my 91 last summer. I didn't notice it. -
I like it. I sent you a PM. Cheers, Lewis

It'll clean up. What do you think it's worth? Cheers, Lewis

If the tailgate liner is in fairly decent shape it's better than what I have. What would you take for it and are you willing to wrap it with cardboard and mail it? I'm at a military address so postage would be about the same as mailing it to New York. The max is 108 inches LxHxW for the mail and it should come in well under that. Cheers

I have a Pendaliner in my truck but I am missing the tailgate piece. Anyone have one they are willing to mail to APO?

I'm happy there were no scenes of a Comanche going over a cliff or some other nightmare.
-
Looks like that transport was also carrying early VW golfs/rabbits. One of those is also in many scenes in Severance. Very cool.
-
The Comanche did not reappear in episode 10. Pretty cool for it to be seen as much as it was though. Curiously all the badges were removed....so no-one knows it's a Jeep Comanche I suppose. I noticed one of the lights in the cab dangling by its wires...made me chuckle.

Here's a couple of quick pics and a short video. It's in some pretty long scenes. I'll try to do a longer, better video today. It's coming over my Roku streaming device and I don't have a way to do it other than the phone. IMG_2655.mov

I searched but couldn't find anything posted about this. There's a Comanche in Season 2 of Severance on Apple's TV channel. It's been in season 2 episodes 8 and 9 so far. Episode 10 is out but I haven't watched it yet. Severance is a pretty good show that's now even cooler.

Just saw this. Very sad.

1997 and later windshield rubber trim
Lewis E replied to tarmac2dirt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just had a 97+ one from Precision installed with a new windshield on my 91. Still has the nibs and there were no issues with the new rubber -
I think if I was doing this again I'd get one of those inserts that fits multiple sizes.
-
I made this with a piece of 1/4 inch textured ABS I got on Amazon. Trial and error trimming until it fit the opening the way I wanted. The edge is tapered inward slightly. I stuck it in there with black water based caulk. The rubber insert is from a 2000-2004 Nissan Frontier Xterra which I got new on eBay. It fits a 12oz can really well but I have to take the insert out for a large cup. I think it turned out well and looks reasonably factory. I know it only holds one but I don't have many passengers anyway.

RPMs swing wildly on actron ODB1 scanner
Lewis E replied to Lewis E's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got the actron CP9145 based on a post by HOrnbrod from way back. I figured it was probably pretty good based on that. He never posted what a normal range of readings would look like. Maybe for the reason you point out. -
RPMs swing wildly on actron ODB1 scanner
Lewis E replied to Lewis E's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm at about 800 feet. I don't know what the normal pressure would be here. I'm near Stuttgart, Germany. I assume INJ PW is the pulse width? What would you normally expect? -
RPMs swing wildly on actron ODB1 scanner
Lewis E replied to Lewis E's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, I've been telling myself to just ignore it but I'm one of those people that has difficulty with that. When I know something isn't doing what it's supposed to it bugs the heck out of me. Those other readings look OK? Is there somewhere I can find out what are normal ranges for all of them? I know what most of them are but don't know what readings I should see on them. Plus, there's a couple that I don't what they are. I just like knowing stuff like that. It's interesting. I have the factory manuals but they either don't address them or I just haven't found it yet. Thanks. -
RPMs swing wildly on actron ODB1 scanner
Lewis E posted a topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have a question I hope one of the experts here can answer. I have a ’91 2WD Comanche with AT and the 4.0. It’s all stock. Tune up items I have used are all OEM or aftermarket equivalents even down to the Champion copper plugs. I have an actron CP9145 connected to my ODB1 connector. Engine is fully warmed up and it’s throwing no codes. Engine seems to be idling normally. (No misses and at around 750 rpms on the tach. The truck runs and drives well. This is the only Jeep with 4.0 HO I have so I have nothing to compare it with….seems to run pretty good. Here’s my readings from the actron with engine idling (fully warm): ADPT FUEL - 0 AIS MTR POS - 29 BARO (Torr) - 567.1 BATTERY - 13.8 CHARG GOAL - 13.9 COOLANT (F) - 201 COOLANT (V) - 2.39 ENGINE (RPM) Swings wildly from -2000 to +4000 (this is my question) IAT SENSOR (V) - 3.65 INJ FW (mS) - 3.8 MAP (Torr) - 144.8 MIN THROT (V) - 0.75 O2 SENSOR (V) - 0.18 SPARK ADV (°s) - 14 SPCTL TGT (MPH) - 0 TPS (V) - 0.76 VACUUM (Torr) - 369.8 VEHSPEED (MPH) - 0 IDLE REQ (RPM) 720 IAT (°F) - 138 The reading on the engine RPMs swings wildly from -2000 or so to about +4000. The display changes so rapidly it’s hard to say what it is really. I’m assuming this is not normal. The tach does not swing this way….or it can’t react that fast so just sits somewhere in the middle of the swing. The tach works normally when driving around. Anyone know what things could be causing this? While you’re looking, how do my other readings look? The truck’s only gone 65000 miles since new and everything looks to be in really good shape. Thanks much for any input, -
Crank Position Sensor Bad or Not?
Lewis E replied to Lewis E's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So, I took the truck to a Jeep garage here in the area. they have some guys that have been there since the 80's so I felt like they might have seen some stuff. They went through the same thinking as me and some of you guys but they had the tools to test the ideas. They suspected the crank sensor like me but hung a scope on it and could see steady output even when the problem was occurring. Next they suspected the coil....put on a new Bosch unit but it didn't fix it. Next it seems they isolated it to a loss of fuel....swapped out the filter which they said was pretty dirty. It was only 8 months old. They dropped the tank and looked for contamination and checked out my new fuel pump and sending unit. They finally started looking at the pressure which they said was low by their gauge. They replaced my nearly new fuel pressure regulator and it seems to have fixed it. They tell me the symptoms were really odd and they were surprised at it being the pressure regulator. Hmmm.....me too so it will be a while before I really trust it. Just thought I'd post to maybe wrap this up. Thanks for everyone's input. -
Crank Position Sensor Bad or Not?
Lewis E replied to Lewis E's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The coil is one thing I don't have a spare for. I do have a new cam sensor that I can try but I have to work on it on the street for the moment and I'm so far north that it starts getting dark at 4:30. The distributor was replaced almost a year ago because it had some play in the shaft. I got one for the later models but it's no doubt Chinese so it's suspect. I did recheck the fuel pressure and by my rail mounted gauge it's 41 without vacuum and 34 with. I only have a hand vacuum pump to check for leaks. I isolated the different vacuum lines and pumped them down....holds good vacuum on all of them. It'll be dark soon plus I'm always worried that some old lady will call the Polizei to come give me a ticket for working on my vehicle on the street. I hope I can swap out the cam sensor tomorrow or Saturday....it'll probably snow or rain.
