  1. 97+ front clip time... and rubicon front axle.... gotta look at is as an opportunity.... otherwise you will cry.
  2. Well, around here you gotta earn your keep... I think I’m going to start looking for a Dana 44 and some metric ton springs.... I was surprised how well this rode.
  3. It is clean though! Wonder how the under body looks.
  4. Thanks! Really enjoying it. Here’s some pics of the smitty bilt. I may have it up for sale one of these days if you are interested in it I’ll give you first dibs. The redneck engineered hitch isn’t exactly Tow rated, so I’m looking into something can haul a trailer on.
  5. I will do that, though in the Southwest rust is much less of an issue which makes me feel very fortunate not to live on either coast, or really any place with high humidity. Thank you! It’s a smitty bilt rear bumper. Apparently the factory bumper got crunched on something. I will try to get some pics tomorrow. and no, just a screen name.
  6. https://www.fourwheeler.com/project-vehicles/154-0610-jeep-comanche-mj/ According to this ‘90 was the first year 4wd was offered. The original owner ordered this pickup to his specifications. So, some things may not be “across the board”. As I understand it, the eliminator has extra sound proofing, bucket seats rather than bench, and the 10 hole rims. This ones been repainted so no Eliminator decals. Definitely “sporty” shy on creature comforts, but who needs AC or lights in a cab right?
  7. Yes I have. Build date is 1/90 eaglescout posted the full build sheet over in the registry.
  8. Near future: muffler is rusted through, so new exhaust, I’ll keep the stock size and go with a Hooker muffler, or Dynomax, or walker, haven’t really decided yet. I want something quiet with a good tone. Then I’ll throw in some ZJ springs to level it out and fit 31’s. Dirt Bound off-road Barracuda Front bumper. Master plan: Upgrade the steering components, extend brake lines, bistein 5100 series shocks, adjustable track bar, quick disconnect sway bar links, 3” lift (ZJ springs in front and probably either hell creek metric ton springs or an AAL ..I have a kid to feed ) 3.55 or 3.73 gears (maybe I can score a Dana 44) 31 10.50s Dirtbound Manta ray rear bumper, headache rack, some bed rails I can get a strap on, Receiver hitch so pretty much Keep it stock.... haha
  9. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Just posted a build thread for anyone interested!
  10. I live on a dirt road so the first thing I did was throw some weather guard mats in. I snapped a couple pics of the interior while I was at it. The valve cover gasket was losing some oil, so I got a Felpro for it. Things went pretty well until my dad tried to pull the valve cover off and snapped the vacuum line... thanks for the help dad. No big problem. For the moment it gets a nice piece of ornamental weather beaten garden hose. Went ahead and started on Cruiser54’s tips by addressing the flutes. My last Comanche sucked enough oil into the air intake that it died while doing 75 down the interstate.... I would rather not have that happen. I was pleasantly surprised how clean everything was. She’s been babied. of course as always happens in the winter, it got dark on me before I could take pics so forgive the flash... Lastly, my new oil cap was waiting when I got home, so out with the old and crusty, in with the Chinese knockoff...
  11. Well, here goes my first shot at a build thread. I bought this truck from the original owner who clearly took good care of her. Specs are: 1990 Eliminator, SWB, 4.0L (renix) 4x4, 5speed, Dana 30/35, running 30” tires on stock suspension.
  12. The clear coat is in good shape. It’s been repainted at some point. I took the pic at night with flash on so it’s not a great representation. I guess I’ll start with soap and water and stop somewhere near hydrochloric acid Thanks for the help Dzimm and Rokkin too.
  13. Unfortunately it seems to be some kind of paint (or nail polish???) not a decal.
  14. This was my first truck. I inherited it from some very close family friends after her previous owner was KIA in Iraq while serving in the Marine Corps. I drove it for a couple years before I started having a lot of problems and towed it to the ranch junk pile. I wish I would’ve known about this site and the amazing wealth of information. She sat parked for many years and recently I sold her to a young guy who really wanted to try his hand at resurrecting her. I hope to get her back when he gets it running again. 1989 Pioneer LWB 4x4, AW4 auto with the “power/comfort” button. not sure on the transfer case but I believe it was the NP-231. Dana 30/35 Interior was gray cloth bench seat, I ran into all the standard problems (grounds, wiring, sensors) and when it finally died while doing 70mph with a full tank of gas and I pulled the air filter to find the intake full of oil my 17 year old self just KNEW it was catastrophic. I found a good deal on a Ranger and sadly never got back around to working on the old Manche. She sat parked for over 10 years and the rats didn’t do her any favors. I will direct the new owner to this forum for information and to log the build. Hopefully he can get it running once again! One of the condition I left her in with the new owner... 😢 And one of my stupid 16 year old self and my Comanche.
  15. I have some tiny footprints running across my hood.... looks like some gang of juvenile gremlins got a hold of some blue paint and scampered across my hood. My question is how can I remove the painted on prints without taking off paint on my hood?
  16. Thanks Eaglescout. Appreciate the build sheet. I’ll open a build thread as soon as I get around to hunting down a couple oil leaks. I’ll get some more pictures of the interior, engine bay and what not.
  17. Should’ve mentioned the rear bumper has been replaced with a smitty built as well.
  18. Hello all! I came across this gem and couldn’t pass it up. 1990 Eliminator 4x4, SWB 4.0L, 5 speed, Dana 30/35, NP-231 (part time command trac) The previous owner drove her off the lot. She was his baby and he had wet eyes when I drove off. My hat is off to him for his care of the ol’ girl. All OEM besides an AMSOIL bypass filter system and a few hoses and vacuum lines. date of manufacture was 01/90 I’m in Northern NM (I truly feel for all you folks not lucky enough to live in a desert, scrolling through threads I count myself very fortunate not to have to fight rust every step of the way, now rubber seals, hoses, gaskets etc are another story around here)
  19. Thanks for the heads up. I will register it now. I also noticed that the valve cover is leaking so I ordered the felpro gasket, I’ll probably start on cruisers tips while I’m under the hood. I’ll start a build thread at that point. thanks for the warm welcomes!
  20. New to the forum, though I’ve been lurking for a while. Appreciate the wealth of information, wisdom, and community on here. I looked around a bit for a place a guy could introduce himself and didn’t see any off the bat. Could be that I’m technologically challenged. If there’s a place could one of you fellows direct me to it? If not perhaps that would be something to do?
