thinking about a conversion
SaharaTJ replied to SaharaTJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the wiring harness should come with it as long as he didn't hack it all up. i may even upgrade to digital gauges. I did forget to mention that whenever i do finally pick my comanche up it does not have a running engine. but i do have an extra laying around that i was going to use but am leaning to the diesel if i can get it to work. -
well since my old one pooped out on me i'm awaiting a new one to be droped off so I'm not sure. and I'm still determining what kinda of tubing i am going to use, i am willing to work with someone if they want a certain type. I am a fan of chromoloy for cages since it is stronger but does cost a bit more.
-
So i may have a diesel driveline from a new liberty or grand cherokee drop into my hands here soon. i am positive its 4x4 not sure if its auto or manual. my friend had it in his jeep and it got totalled out for some reason i can't remember what he said. But how hard would it be to drop the entire engine, tranny, and transfer case and get it running? I know new gas tank and lines will have to be run but what else?
-
so i found the clamps so i am going to think of a bolt in cageconfiguration and a weld in config. I am working out the detals for the rest of the machine tools tomorrow, so i will let everyone know if i am going to start building all the stuff hopefully tomorrow.
-
that is doable. see i was thinkin of the common person that doesnt have a welder. if i find the clamps i may think about making a bolt in cage and a weld in kit. and if i possible made a cage i would prolly use 1.5-2 chromwhatchamacall it but if you want a certain certain metal i will see what i can do. I am working on getting a new bender as we speak, since my last one craped out on me about 4 months ago and was just old in the first place
-
cages aren't usually that hard to build. just takes time, problem is i don't know where to get the bolt on material. If i find the bolt on clamps i could build something of what you want. bounty I'm on the ill side too I'm from maryville i'm about a mile from glen carbon and a mile from 55 and troy

If you have any ideas or stuff you might want to see let me know i am trying to figure out stuff to build. I like drawing up stuff even just to get it as a prototype. I got a billino things on my mind of what people want but just can't think of everything. So give me some ideas. even if its a simple one of something already out that you would like to see differently or even better.
-
what kind would you be looking for? like a step set up or something like against the body like most yj&tj ones are?
-
Whoa what a busy month I have had. but to the point, So i might start building bumper, rockers, and maybe cages for mj,yj and tj's. But I am not sure if i could build enough for people to make it worth my wild. So I am starting just a poll on if you would buy one if it was built to what you wanted? If you can draw/dream it up I might be able to make it.

did that article help out? -
I need the measurement from the rear wheel to the front bumper on a swb.
-
Ya I'm interested in finding the graphics too. I want to repaint my mj when i get it since i like having green cars and actually like the "sports truck" graphic for some reason. but if i can't find the graphics i may do a two tone color so i can keep the graphics
-
I didn't mean towing with the factory bumper. I ment a aftermart heavy duty bumper like one from detours or something that has a built in hitch.
-
Ok since i am beyond exhausted of asking my buddy to borrow his truck to tow stuff... for example i was supposed to pick my mj up this weekend but my buddy had to take his old lady out for their 2 year anniversary. so when i get the mj i am going to add a hitch but was wondering which is better, a hide-a-hitch or whatever it is or a rear bumper with a built in hitch? Also does anyone have any pictures of and bumpers with the built in hitch and prices of both options? Oh ya i know that i won't be able to tow much but i have been able to flat tow almost anything with a 2.5L tj and I'm really only looking to tow small things the biggest being a small 2 person hunting boat.
-
First questoin; with the 2.5L 5 speed combo are the axles geared at 4.11 like yj's, tj's and the rest? Second; Ok from what i have read from reider racing catalogue the gears I have for tj d35 should fit in the mj 35 correct? I know the mj's 30 is reverse so i know the tj's gears won't fit it. Reason i'm asking is i have a set of 4.88 already to be put in on my d35 for my tj but if i can take the 4.11 out of the d35 and then get a set of matching gears for both d30's. thanks in advance

Jp mag did it to their MJ in there september 2005 magazine. I have been reading the sept 05 mag the past couple weeks. I am going to help a buddy do that to his along with a 2 to 4wd conversion like jp has talked about in that edition. they also helped with some common problems i know to look for now. If you can't find the info on it, send me your email and i will scan the pages for you. -
how long would it be without the bumpers on?
-
I need to know how long a comanche short bed is from front bumper to rear bumper. I need to figure out if it will fit into my storage unit. I have to put it in storage while i work on it since i have 2 nonworking jeeps in my garage and no room at the house.
-
maybe its the red of the truck but that looks more like a clayish mud i have come across in some parts of ohio but it looks a little weird. It may be because i do alot of mudding in deap woods or farm land and i get a different shade of mud. But looks nice and I'm mad cuz its raining here alot and i don't have my mj yet and my tj aint touchin the mud because of the basically bald front tires. makin me jealous! Oh ya how are you liking that 3" lift?
-
ya then my tj one won't come close to fit since it is 3"x8" yikes ... I will just build me a nice little custom box and route the wires somehow. hmm now just to pick my mj up... i just need a truck and trailer and it wouldn't so hard, i just have to wait for my budyd to have a free day off.
-
hmm i wonder if i custom build a box for the radio and just rewire the wires to the radio.... hmm that will give me something to build as long as the radio will work
-
ya um whats DIN? so will my tj stereo not work in the mj?
-
Ok so i found my stock tj radio with tape deck oh ya... but now if someone could give me the dimensions for the size of the mj radio slot i will find out if will work or not.
