OH and you must have never spent a winter in STL area. My quick disconnects rusted over just from like the actual 4 days of snow and road salt we saw last winter, and My tj is canadian born so it spent atleast a couple years there till i bought it in the states. my jeep has alot of rusted stuff but it doesn't bother me - gave me a reason to buy a compressor.
-
I've got a locker in the rear and i got claws there isn't much that has stoped me except rocks which i just done like goin on i do but don't go all out. i've got 2 leaks one in the valve cover and then someone else that i can't find near the tranny cuz i keep getting oil on it. But i think my buddy has his arb and 4.88 for a 30 for cheap so i may end up getting both and spend about a grand in total for the parts for the stroker, arb, compressor and a few small odds and ins
-
Ya also makes me PO cuz there is oil puddle in my garage. I did some research and I could do the stroker kit for about 600 bucks!

Ok I Need to decided what to get for my tj. It Has come the time to spend some money on doing something to the tj. I came across some extra cash so I have decided that its time to up my tj a bit. my options are either buying a DIY stroker kit or an ARB for my 30. I can't make up my mind on what to do. I would like the extra traction to my d30, on the other hand my engine has a small oil leak and in doing the stroker i could fix that and it would add more power. I can't make up my mind. I might be able to squeeze both if i buy this arb off my buddy. But should i invest in the stroker or the locker?

Suggestions on floor repair?
SaharaTJ replied to feerocknok's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I wish i would have seen this earlier I do this stuff alot. I'm doing it to a 86 rustang at the moment. i've been replacing parts of the drivers floor pan and almost the entire passanger. But i'll either use a panel adhesive or i'll stitch weld the panel on depending on how big. Flux-core sucks for stuff like that unless you really take your time. I do use gas with the welders at work and that so its easy for me to tune it in perfect for it. these adhesives have come along way almost half if not more of a new car/truck is glued now along with pinch welds. but i do like using a flanger and glueing the panel on from the bottom its so easy and can take like 10 mins all together that cutting the panel out, cutting one to fit, flanging it, and putting the glue on and having it set up. -
My G*d, I'd be locking up the rear all the time. SLAM! EEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRTTTT! I have enough trouble switching to my wifes auto XJ and catching the corner of the brake pedal with my left foot as I'm cramming down as if were a stick. He has a sticker on his steering wheeling that warns you. and its loose enough that if you press it you won't slamm to a hault but you'll feel it braking. unless you do press it all the way down. But hes so used to it and last time i drove it i tested it out and its freaking sweet setup.

actually going from standard to auto is easy. going the other way is the pain part. My buddy just went form stick to auto and actually used the clutch pedal as an extra rear brake control. i've seen a couple of guys do this now, I don't know what is needed that to happen but its cool for a rig. but the computer for the auto will be needed. I want to say stu olsen i think is his name did it to his tj and u could pick up a few things from his write up on it. I'll see if i can come across it.

Ok so i had to back out of the deal on getting my mj. Some things came up with the seller and he needed to keep it. Now I am on the hunt for a cheap mj. As long as it runs I really don't care the condition since i do body work and that. But cheap is the key! EDIT: It has to be 4x4
-
Which engine would the 173 be? and which trannys would the auto be and the standard be? I may be getting both of them now.
-
hmm that is a good question since it is 21 years old. time to find out, but illinois emissions is a cake walk as long as its not blowin smoke out.
-
Well, if i can get a dd for cheap i won't complain. I just need something that runs so i can really work on my tj and my mj (when i finally go pick it up). I got a buddy that has a couple extra gm 2.8s that i can get parts from if it gives me problems. But like i said if it runs and can pass emissions and on top of that is dirt cheap i'm all for it.

what is the cubic size of those engine? What else could it have, hes not to bright when it comes to axles. oh could it have the 8.25 or something like that. The 2.5L is 150 (some say 151) cubic inches. And, no, it is NOT the Pontiac "Iron Duke" (although AMC did buy some of those for the Concord/Eagle/Spirit line in the early 80s). 2.8 liters is 171 cubic inches. As to axles .. . if it's original, it MUST have a Dana 30 front and a Dana 35 rear. There were no optional axles in the 1985 Cherokee -- only optional ratios. ok then if they are both the same engine they both have the 2.8L in it. I will double check everything when i get the pictures on them. Oh and the are they hp axles?
-
Oh to add salt to the wound I found out he got freakin 2 of them for 60 bucks. but i may be acquiring one.

i took a stab at the engine, he said it was carbed and thats the only carbed engine i know for 80's jeeps besides the amc's 360 and 401 and one other but can't remember and wasn't sure which years the engines where used.

I had that happen to my d35 in my tj except i had an open carrier and my spiders went kabooooom and not to mention i was on a major road when it happened.

Ok sorry i have to vent. My buddy calls me at like 8 this mornin and was asking me how much a d44 outta a xj costs. I told him ruffly and then he tells me he bought a damn 85 xj for get this 60 fackin bucks! its the old carbed 4.2. If you read about a jeeper goin to jail for beatin another one up haha someone bail me out! that faucker has the luck i sware.

try summit racing! they have some good seats an comfy for like 120ish per and a buddy has a set in his yj and the only bad thing is that the edges are a little tough on the legs but its also a climb to get into a lifted yj, on an mj it will be much easier since its more open and its not a jump to get over everything. If you want i can look at their ohio shop since i'm going there over the weekend to pick some stuff up on my mini vacation. Oh and they are the apc i think they are called and recline back too i'll ask him about the info.

last one they made for her car, but they gave half the money back for it.

well its tech not my story but i have to fix the mistakes of the company. But a friend of mine ordered a spoiler for her car, fiberglass at that. the company shiped it like she requiested 2 day. Problem is fedex was supposed to box it and ship it for her. well it arived on her door step with no box they put the sticker on the spoiler and said the hell with it. so now i have to fix a $#!& load of dings, small holes, and scratchs on a fiberglass spoiler! and i haven't messed around with fiberglass before since i own jeeps and don't see much of that at school or at my old job.
-
well the company called me today and told me to come up next weekend and pick out the machines i want. so i may be picking up 2 welders if they let me(mig and tig), a bender (either 1.5,1.75 or 2"die set), a plasma cutter. and i get to do some wheeling next weekend needs to come already!!!!!

thinking about a conversion

ya i think thats what it is. I need to call my buddy and get the full info on it still. But i have been busy trying to get all the stuff i need for my business started -
it looks great, i only noticed one thing that would bug me and thats with the front clip. the fender goes down like 2 inches lower than the front. its nothing bad but would bug me seeing that i do body work and have to line everything up perfectly. may just try trimming like an inch off about 4 inches above the bottom and then reweld it, but that is just what i would do.

will the 231 that i have mate to the engine? suspension is no problem since i will lift it anyways! as to smog. i don't think we have the testing but i could be wrong. but around here our full size diesel trucks love to show how much black smoke they can produce all over the place. and since it did come from a new jeep i think it might be smog legal. And i may just make it my trail rig but I'm not sure yet. -
