Haven’t been working on the MJ lately but I’ve upgraded the wiring with one of mean lemons kits. Also bought a bored throttle body from him as well. These were installed before the Windrock trip. Love how smooth the response is since installing the throttle body. I recommend him to anyone looking for these parts. I’m removing the leaf springs to install the 8.8 this winter. Hopefully it will be installed ina month? I’m buying Eaton elocker and 4.88 gearing. I’ll start on the front next year.

It been torn apart for a few weeks now. I was having issues with the wipers and traced it down to a wire. Replaced the oil pan, oil pan gasket, flushed the tranny, changed the tranny filter. Installed Mean Lemons bored throttle body and installed his battery cables. Getting ready to crank it tomorrow. Have to fix the horn and she’ll be on the road again. I’ll be ready for Windrock next weekend.

Nice read! I’ve ran through it and will check several items tonight.

Thank you all! I should have mentioned. I added a ground in the cab and at the firewall previously. Ill check the wiper box.

Since I purchase my mj I’ve had a very slow wiper speed. Didn’t matter what speed I turned it to. It was always on the same speed, slow! Recently it just stopped working. I’ve had several CJs/YJs and would replace the motor, always fixed issue. It’s past the date of inspection, wipers and horn are the only issue but I’m getting horn sorted. Should I replace the motor then go the the next item if that doesn’t fix or ????

Bored throttle bodies

Just received my 88 Renix throttle body. If you're wondering he does nice work! Hoping to have mine installed within the month. -
Testing her out lately. Think I’ll be rebuilding the trans or locating a newer version. Taken this thing on several trails cleared by someone with a Polaris. Very tight turns around trees.

Gotcha! ill be draining and refilling shortly. Prob replace the gasket as well.

How long did the truck sit. You stated that the blow by seams much worse than you remember. Cld be stuck rings and it will fix itself after a bit of driving.

Not sure, what the PO put in.

Just now realized you all responded, thank you! My fluid level appears to be fine and the fluid is brite red still. Doesn't smell funny either. I'll try adjusting the TV cable and replace fluids as well

Just realized they were the newer mirrors. The P.O. must have replaced them? I'm debating on going 97? doors but not sure because I'll be wheeling it and damage the doors at some point. I've drove it on a 5hr round trip so far, ran great. I am noticing a slip when its warming up. If I crank it and put in reverse fairly quickly it will start reversing then slip after 20' then catch and go great from there. I'll be looking at the trans shortly. My Moab trip will have to be postponed one year now. I've decided to spend additional time with my kiddos instead of working on the MJ. I should start back in winter but don't think I'll have enough test runs for Moab in 2020. May not have the axles installed till summer of next year.

I’ve been driving my MJ a bit lately. I’ve driven it 2hrs 110miles on way and back. Recently (before trip) I noticed it will slip when I put it in reverse. It has 180k on it. Weird because it will go in reverse, engrave then while backing up slip then catch after a few secs. I’ve driven it a total of 3-4K since getting back on road. Fluid is good but I’m not sure on level. Can’t determine if trans stick is factory or not. Shld I drain and check amount or trust trans stick? Any other suggestions?

So I can camp in your yard? 4hrs may be a bit for mine but I’ll be driving it to work this week. Gives me something to push for. -
The newer clip is just looks. I also changed the radiator to an open system. Changing to an open system does away with the pressure tank on older Comanches. Mulch weighed 800-1,000lbs 😂

As I’ve been driving/working on this truck I realize how unmolested it is. The body isn’t perfect but everything is stock or at least replaced with stock parts. It’s the first 80’s or below vehicle that the wiring wasn’t hacked at the radio. Still had factory Radio plug. I had to completely rewire The CJ8 in my previous photos dash and all.
