Take it from someone who's spent a lot of time at advance auto lately (see my post about my charging problem) now is the time to change your oil, or at least stock up on oil and filters Until june 30th they have 5 quarts Valvoline and a purolator filter for $16 (pureone filters are only $2 more) Or you can get 5 qts full synthetic and a K&N filter for 25!! Get on it fellas!!!

No don I hadn't. I knew that was one way to see if I had charging going on, but didn't have a multimeter till today (when its too late) I pulled the little plastic cover off of where all the relays and crap are and noticed I had a shorted positive wire, what it goes to I don't know. Its possible we burnt it out when we were jumping it. It was like a freaking monsoon it was raining so hard that night. Hopefully that's it. If not, I have new cables, terminals, ans a new battery strap anyway. Also pulled the bumper today and noticed a little green wire behind the vacuum blimp. Has a female spade connection on it, any idea what it goes to? :dunno:
-
Cables were pretty nasty and corroded, so I'm gonna swap those out for starters, as well as the clamps. Also, taking the nut off the stud on the ground-impossible. I had to cut all the wires going to it, and ended up spinning out the whole stud. I'll be replacing that with a bolt And Eagle....I don't have a clock :rotfl2:

That would make sense, if it had been dead a day or two after i put the fresh battery in. But I put the battery in last sunday, and its lasted this long. if I had a draw, I probabaly would have noticed by now

Ok so here's the story Last week I left my lights on at work, came out to a dead battery, duh. So we tried to jump it, no salt. Let it charge for awhile, then tried jumping it again, still no luck. Friend borrowed me a battery to get me home, but it was waaaaaay too big. I don't know the specs, I just know it was way bigger than the stock MJ one. That one lasted another oh...50 miles before it died, in the meantime I had the stocker on the charger at home, so after being limped home 50 miles, I decided to put the right battery back in my mj, that lasted until today. Alright, so a battery won't hold a charge, must be the alternator right? Nope. The alternator bench tested fine. I'm at a loss fellas. Brand new battery in january, and the alt. Is fine. What's next?
-
If my MJ wasn't having problems right now (think my alternator is buh-bye) I'd have made the 12 or more hour journey to nab it. That's a beautiful rig. Keep in mind that's 12 hours one way

MJ is dead replied to MJ is dead's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Alright. I have no problems with taking a sawzall to the ole MJ :D -
Will it work? I have no front bumper...well no real one. 2x4 doesn't count Since I wanna do the 97+ swap someday, I just wanna buy the bumper now to save some pennies. Will it work no prob? I have the original 10 slot front end right now

I'm with ya on this one rob. The current logo looks a little....well...dated. No offense pete. If I still had a copy of photoshop, I'd take a swing at it, but alas that disappeared with my ex. I dig the bolt idea

Now Here's a Bedside Alternative

The MJ that started it all for me had prerunner fronts on it  -
Alright, to answer some questions. The rust idea of grinding it out and painting it black...will it work? Sure, for awhile. If you're gonna go that route, make sure you either A. Paint it with POR-15 B. Treat it with SEM's Rust Mort Personally I'd go the POR 15 route, as Rust Mort is just a wipe that more or less kills the rust and requires priming afterwards. POR 15 is a one shot deal for the most part. Painting over untreated rust only causes more rust. Sure, doing it right is more expensive, but think of how many greenbacks you'll have to lay down to have it done again and again and again As to your rubbing compound question. The easiest answer I can give you is no. You've already said you've no experience in paint/body, meaning you have no experience with blending paint. In theory, if you knew how to do a proper blend, it might, MIGHT work. Every color you see on a vehicle can have between 2 and 30 variances. Meaning the red of your MJ, may have one set paint code, but there may be multiple versions of it with different toners (some more red, some more blue, etc) finding one to match exact, with 10 plus years of fading on it would be pretty tough. Do it right, or don't do it at all
-
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TAKE IT TO MAACO!!!!!   Take it from a body guy, taking anything to maaco is a terrible idea. Ever wonder why they are so cheap? Because they don't prep their work, or do generally crap work. Give it a year's time and your rust will return, your clearcoat will delaminate and your paint will start falling off around the edges. I can't stress it enough, don't do it. Ever. I wouldn't even let them paint my trash can.

Pete...that is AWESOME! I have one ziptied to the seatpost on one of my bikes. With a little masking tape, you can hold a longneck just fine :) -
