  1. I washed up my clothes, well in the process of taking the clothes from the washer to the dryer i noticed my Wallet at the bottom of the empty washer  ! I guess i got clean credit now :rotfl2: :clapping: :hmm: Mike
  2. WI law states: "any vehicle incapable of lawful operation on the public highway we be considered junk" Junk vehicles are explained as - "incomplete, non operational, or having no value other then parts or scrape will be considered junk" the fine ? $100 per day per vehicle or automotive part . . . if you had 2 spare tires out side that's $200/day till they are removed or put inside  Mike
  3. It was there this winter . . . Well I guess when I get that far ill dyno the MJs 290 and are what she spins ? I guess intill then its all he said she said ! Mike
  4. There wasn't a debate as to what they were rated for, we were discussing what they actually made for power  Mike
  5. The 304 was larger but lower compression with a more tame camshaft also  The 290 4bbl with 10.0:1 which was actually 10.2:1 not that ot matters was the base engine for the AMX's and Javelins so it had to be some performance minded, which is why it got the higher compression ratio and a more aggressive camshaft then the 304 jeep engine. the 304 360 and 401 Jeep engines had 8.3-8.5 ish compression ? as where most of the AMX & Javelin 290 343 360 390 401's had 10/10.2:1 and a select few had 12.2/12.5:1 making for a not so fair comparison. i am sure the 10:1 AMX 360 made more power then the 8.3:1 Jeep 360 and i bet the 8.35:1 401 made less power then the 10:1 401, The higher compression dose make a difference and steeping the camshaft up 1 or 2 notches also makes a difference even if the both idle smooth at 750rpm . . . I just used the AMC-390 as we were talking AMCs . . . I just simply stated the 390 was rated for 315G-hp but actually turned 332N-hp according to HR Mag. I am well aware every manufacturer did the same thing. As for the 290 one of the 2 AMC forums should have the thread pertaining to the 205/260 numbers, either way ill be going with a 290 V8 in my MJ few mileage is not of any concern to me i wanted peppy yet drive able truck and i simply was not going to do and engine swap to have a 6cylinder regardless of cost or complexity  Ok your right, back on topic, MJ payload & towed load ratings. 2.5L = 1475 & 2000 2.8L = 1475 & 4200 4.0L = 1475 & 5000 only exception was the Metric ton which was rated for 2209 payload. Now as for the MJ dually I don't know its rating . . . I don't think many where made don't seem to be much known about them from what i can find . . . Mike
  6. Those are the net power numbers the 290s gross eating was much higher ! The 01-06 4.0L made 195 net horse power and 235 net torque. The 66-69 290 made 205 net horse power and 260 net torque. The 290 was rated for 225 gross horse power and 300 gross torque, a fellow AMCer ran a stock 290 and it spun 205/260 net numbers the 290 is stronger then the 304 as it has a slightly more aggressive camshaft and a 10.2:1 compression ratio. Don't forget AMC under rated there engines ;) ! Hot rod mag did an arcticle on the old engines one of them was the 4bbl AMC-390 which was rated for 315 gross horse power well when they dynord it the AMC-390 actually turned 332 net horse power, then HOUR being HOUR they tweaked it some and with a simply carb rejet and spark recurving they got 347 N-hp. They said AMC did this to keep off the high risk insurance lists. Mike
  7. Yup I can relate to the upgrading of the MJ to tow some stuff ! Current setup: AMC-150 I4, AX-4, D35 with 3.73s dose quite well but . . . Future setup: AMC-290 V8, AMC-T5, AMC-20 with 4.11s Will n do much better ! Why the little 290 V8 instead of the 242 I6 ? 4.0L = 195hp & 235tq ! 4.9L = 205hp & 260tq ! It'll prolly still get about 15-17mpg even the 4 banger only dose 16mpg ! Mike
  8. All MJ's in bed payload is 1,475-LB's, except for the metric ton which is 2,209-LB's in bed. Max towed load goes as follows: 2.5L 2,000LB's 2.8L 4,200LB's 4.0L 5,000 LB's. brakes aren't so much the limiting factor as the lack of weight of the truck itself the brakes have plenty of power to bring 235/75R15's to a dead stop but if the payload exceeds that of the truck's weight it'll push it even with a 4 tire dragging  so the weight of and MJ + 4 dragging tires = 7,500LB's of Forward force so 5K is the rated limit for safety  Mike
  9. Well then you should already know that once you remove the alternator you can see the lower mount is a 2 piece mount and has 2 bolt running through it . . . Being you have "Replaced multiple alternators in various XJs and MJs" you should already know this . . . and Should then know the 105Amp 7801 has a threaded lower ear which is also square the 7801-11 also has a squared lower ear which is not threaded but dose require a face plate flip to work so both of these are NOT rounded like the factory alternator, so there for requiring more clearance between the 2 parts of the lower engine side mount. EAR = the tab or bolt hole on the alternator itself not sure what to call it :dunno: . . . I was able to follow the simple instructions the auto parts store guy explained everything as i did above if i was able to understand it and doing in the dark during a rain storm having NEVER changed an Alternator on an MJ or XJ for that matter then clearly some one such as yourself who has done many should be able to figure this out  I guess i'll keep my repairs to myself you guy's continued paying more for less and i'll keep on getting More for my money . . . with less down time The 7801/-11alternator puts out 105 amp's costs $70 and is in stock at the parts stores, the factory 61Amp None AC is $110 takes 1-3 days to get and the 74Amp with AC is $130 and takes 3-5days to get from the local parts store . . . I have a none AC 2.5er so i got 61-105= 46 amp's more of peak out put for 70-110 = $40 less money not to mention it was in stock :D Mike
  10. J & H Auto Supply is where I got it from. 7 auto parts stores in town none of them had the OEM alternator in stock wanted 110 bucks for it and would take 1 to 5 days to get with a shipping charge, as where J n H had this stronger alternator in stock for 70 bucks swapped the pulleys and did the face flip on the -11 for me free of charge. Mike
  11. Well anywho I thought it was a cool find myself and its a better bang for the buck so I mentioned it, I guess I could have mentioned 2.5 I-4 some place, I just figured the photos would have that it was a 2.5er. Mike
  12. Be that as it may, more amps less money vs less amps more money. And Instock vs can be ordered in 1-3 or 3-5 days . All seems worth while to me ? Yup the 2.8 V6 4.0 I-6 & 4.7-6.6 V-8s I'm sure are different ! I'm sure they made more then 1 2.5er and I figured this would have been helpful to others. Sorry I don't have the 6 cylinder more then likely it already has a 90 or 105 amp OEM alt ? Mike
  13. Photos: If your pulley looks like this you'll need to swap it onto the new ALT: Davco 7801 and Davco 7801-11 the -11 requires a face flip tho . . . Its a very tight fit which is why the lower mount bolts need to be loosened up as the housing is larger and the lower mount tab of the ALT is squared and not rounded the 7801-11 is not threaded on the lower bolt hole but the 7801 is threaded so you'll be double nutted so to speak . . . Mike
  14. My alt failed on my way to a friends house ! The MJ had either 61amp non AC or 74amp AC. Well those are out of stock and over 100 bucks... But the Delco 105 amp & 90 amp alts interchange sort of and only cost 70 bucks in stock ! The 105will fit but requires some shaving the 90 is 1/4" smaller and if you loosen the lower mount bolts then install the top ALT bolt just hand tight then the lower ALT bolt hand tight then that third back ALT bolt hand tight. Then tighten the lower mount bolts then crank down the rest of the bolts and it all lines up good. Shazzam you have an 90-105A alt in stock under warranty and cheap like to boot . . . Good sticky info once i get the part number off the ALT ! if interested . . . Mike

I got let go yesterday after work said they just didn't have enough work for me ! This is getting very old second time this year . . . shoot me just shoot me . . . Mike
  17. have another yo  Mike
  18. Before: AMC-150 I4, AX-4 4spd manual, D35 with 3.73's and 235/75R15 tires. After: AMC-290 V8, T-5 5spd manual, AMC-20 with 4.11's and 235/75R15 tires. I like how it sit's and looks on them 235's so those will stay tho the truck might sit a bit higher in the front a possibly the rear too . . . I'm going with a 1.75" front spring spacer kit for the extra weight of the V-8 so it more then likely sit higher the rear will be getting a set of helper spring's them 1 leaf add on's for each side a long with the coil spring that fits over the rear shocks may get added to . . . nothing set in stone its tentative depending on how things sit squish and hold a load The V-8 tho small dose weigh a bit more then the I-4 and i do believe the T-5 is slightly heavier then the AX-4 also, plus i am going to a fuel tank in the bed not sure what it weight's in at but i'm guessing it holds about 30ish gallons . . . New fuel tank: The Studebaker M275er is going to duel tank's, So rather then toss that tank out and my MJ needing a tank any how i figured i would mount that tank in the bed behind the cab ;) solving both issues Mike
  19. I'd buy E range tires for my MJ But best i could find was C's for 15" wheels :dunno: they seem plenty stiff tho 35psi in front and 45psi in rear  but i really hate buying AT :fs1: type tires, I'm an MT or Traction tread type of guy if they don't howl or whine i won't put them on any of my truck's :D  Now for my Car's smooth stealthy and silent is the name of the game . . . well except for when it comes to Camshafts and exhaust's ;) I can't help it i love loudness in my toy's  Mike
  20. sweet 16's are cool I can have 16" wheels other wise i know i'll be mounting up a set of load range E's in an Mud tread  Heavier the ply rating on the lighter the truck the slower the tires wear ;) a Load range C 15" MT will last prolly 30-40K ish miles on this light truck just imagine how long i could get out a commercial traction tire in a load range E or 16's ? Mike
  21. AMC-V8 Coming in June So i'll have to get a better photo taking device for the repowering we can't be having that cloudy  Mike
  22. I think it maybe time to buy a new one or break out the nice one cause my last 2 dozen photos seem cloudy :fs1: . . . Mike
  23. AMC-MJ with 235's: They fit great plenty o Clearance i tested it nothing rubs under hard braking or hard acceleration hard cornering ect oh ya the truck drives way better the wobbling has almost vanish along with the slight vibration ! Now for some shocks  Mike
  24. Told ya so Mike
