  1. Where is the fuel ballast resistor? I’m starting to think my issue may also be vacuum related 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
  2. I didn’t have to pull the manifold to change the water pump... 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
  3. Solved! Starter relay, simplest thing first duh! 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
  4. So I’ve been chasing this bastard ever since I bought this thing. For the 1st couple weeks of having it, it was fine. Then it began having a power but no crank issue intermittently. I thought it may have been because things had gotten wet but ruled that out after I did a river crossing and the $#!& fixed itself! I enjoyed a start up with every turn of the key for a good long while, but now it’s back. It starts every time if I jump the starter so it’s not that. It’s not the nss, I tested the connector and found signal at the necessary positions. I cleaned my ignition coil contacts as per cruisers tips. (Could be going bad but I thought could either work or they don’t—problem is intermittent) Could be CPS? I'm not sure how that affects start up, I thought if the cps was bad it wouldn’t run at all. I did find an anomaly, but again it had been starting normally for months so I don’t think it’s this but, the hot wire from the starter solenoid come up to the passenger fire wall, is connected to 2 wires and then goes into the harness. Seemed strange to me... Also, how, if at all does the tps affect ignition? Might have just been coincidence, but the issue came back right after I had messed with the tps because it got wet (needs replaced)...I’m thinking maybe somewhere in the harness near there? I’m going to do the c101 delete this weekend to eliminate that. Any other ideas? 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
  5. Thanks for the info! I’ll take a look at my cps. The holes just don’t line up..I felt around inside with a hex key and could push it all the way in, those two holes are just ~1/8” askew in equal and opposite directions which made me think it had been changed. 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44

  9. So I’m about to head to Oreileys to pick up my 2nd replacement tps in an unreasonably short amount of time. What makes them go bad? I noticed I was having fuel/shift issues so I went to check my tps (after already having replaced it once). The connectors itself was on its way out so I unplugged the connectors to test the harness side and got proper input voltage (4.99v). I plugged the connectors together and backprobed the tps side input and was getting only ~1.11v, after checking the tps side output I got ~0.18v—so it was still near proper adjustment at 17/83% but the voltage was way low. I figured bad connector(had been playing in the mud) so I cut it out and wired everything up with spade connectors to check again. Here was my test. With all connectors plugged in except the input voltage: I put my negative voltmeter lead on the harness side ground and the positive lead on the harness side input and got a reading of 4.99v. As soon as I touched the tps side input to the harness side, my input voltage dropped to 1.11v. I unplugged the input connectors and with them separated test each side. Harness side: 4.99v Tps side: .76v Plugged together: 1.11v What is happening? 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
  10. Looking for pic of stock manifold. I’m starting to think my whole exhaust manifold was replaced at some point which would explain the mismatched egr and o2 sensor...here’s what I have: this front lower bolt hole doesn’t line up and neither does the rear lower....all other have bolts in them...ideas? 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
  11. Bruh, I’m a fabricator, find a hood, we’ll make it work! 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
  12. I’m looking to make and install a relay harness for my headlamps this weekend. I have the wagoneer quad light front clip. It currently has rigid pods as the low beams and the stock hi beams. I’m looking to put the stock low beams back until I get leds. Is it possible to make a relay harness that will work with the stock lights and accept the leds when I get them? Also, if anyone has advice on how to wire it so my low beams stay on when I turn on the hi beams, I’d appreciate it! This is as it is now: And these are lights I’m going going to get (2 lows/2 his—they’re single function and since I have the quad clip it works out): http://www.truck-lite.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CompareProductsDisplayView?storeId=10001&catalogId=10002&langId=-1&compareReturnName=Headlights&searchTerm=&categoryId=13091&catentryId=51299;51300&returnUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.truck-lite.com%2Fwebapp%2Fwcs%2Fstores%2Fservlet%2FCategoryDisplay%3FstoreId%3D10001%26urlLangId%3D-1%26beginIndex%3D0%26urlRequestType%3DBase%26categoryId%3D13091%26pageView%3Dgrid%26langId%3D-1%26catalogId%3D10002%23facet%3A-7000000000000003359766968%2C-700000000000000328652341205434%26productBeginIndex%3A0%26orderBy%3A%26pageView%3Agrid%26minPrice%3A%26maxPrice%3A%26pageSize%3A%26%26fromPage%3Dcompare Not looking for input on lighting selection, just technical knowledge. 14. Okay, I’ll check them out. What’s the latch relay do? 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
  15. Also, would someone be able to tell me the locations of vital relays and their functions? There’s a relay cluster on the passenger wheel well but I haven’t messed with it bc I’m not sure what each does. 87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
  16. I’ve replaced the IAC and have already gone through cruisers tips. But I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to go back and doublecheck. Also I’ll look into the relay
  17. Sorry got a new phone and lost app cache, forgot to redo my signature 87 xj np242 aw-4
  18. Symptoms: recently started having a very low idle, wants to stall, sometimes does. Only happens at starting temps (won’t die if I’ve been driving and come to a stop light). When I got it, it didn’t pass smog. There was an egr from a Pontiac Le Mans and a map sensor with a GM logo on it. Put a new egr and cat and passed smog. Then it started running funky, high idle, shifting issues. So I replaced the tps. Got it to run better and left it like that for a bit. Then it started sounding really lopey at idle and smells really rich. I replaced the map and o2 sensors as well as the iac and vac lines. Also replaced: plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Getting frustrated and don’t want to take it to a shop bc they’re just going to charge me my first born to load up their own parts canon. Kind of at a loss on what to do. The kicker is that how it runs is always random..at highway speed (2000+ rpm) it runs smooth, but slightly underpowered—partially, PARTIALLY, due to gearing. At idle and on the way to 2k rpm....well it just depends on how she’s feeling that day, sometimes it seems fine, other times...well it died as I was backing out of a parking spot twice today.
  19. Cool thanks, I’ll make sure it’s hooked up properly
  20. Second the egr, also, the smog guy should be able to give you an idea, based on results.
  21. Okay cool, thanks for all the info
  22. I’ll check, I know it’s there, haven’t inspected the lines closely. Anyone have a diagram of those particular ones? What effect would it not being hooked up have?
  23. I’ve appreciated all your input until it seemed to start to question my mechanical aptitude. I know you’re knowledgeable and your advice has helped me solve issues previously.
  24. More so from the engine bay
  25. Okay, previously in thread: i replaced iac, tps, o2, map, egr, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, water pump, fuel filter, oil filter, oil pressure sender, vac lines and alternator. Injectors aren’t leaking, but have been replaced with ford orange tops. Additional symptom: will idle normal except it will drop down every 20 seconds or so and then pick back up.
