  1. There was an oil crisis back in the day around 1973 or 74 and as to response to the big time oil companies and countries I believe it was President Nixon that made it a nation wide speed limit at 55 mph to conserve oil and say f u to the gas companies and countries. It stayed in effect until 87 or 88 don't quote me, mostly because of safety issues with automobiles. I had one but covered it with a new set of gauge covers.
  2. no you can cut off the o2 sensor and the truck will run....
  3. um first id try to find a friend that had one, if not it would depend on what quality you want you can get one from harbor freight for 20 bucks they are always a good tool to have. I hardly ever trust the gauge in the dash.
  4. no once the tps is set and tight it will usually stay........ as for engine compression and oil pressure the only way to really know what kind of condition they are in is to actually test them.
  5. ouch those fuel mpg hurt I'm squeezing 22 mpg hwy and around 18 in town out of my 2.5. I had to reset the tps before on my rig it was off a bit and it brought my fuel mileage down, did you adjust it or did you have someone else do it? Have to checked the coolant temperature sensors? theres two one for your gauge and one for the ecu, if the one to the ecu is bad you can be getting a rich fuel mixture that will slow you down on those hills. Hows the oil pressure and compression? That will give you a good sign of engine condition also. Maybe something in the drivetrain is causing the mpg decrease? Just a couple thoughts I had sorry for the letter, hope you find out what it is :ack:
  6. Nice! thats the dual beam, I think thats how they all come.....One day I maybe able to put those in my truck once I stop replacing everything else
  7. Its a single clunk in 2wd then in 4wd under load I hear quite a bit under load, o well I will just have to tear into it, and check it out. Bad deal Meljr that sucks but where there is destruction there is creation!
  8. I use Hid lighting on my cbr street bike there are great, I love when I get flashed, then I flash back showing them my high beams haha. Are you running a single beam or a dual beam? And Fyi those lights don't like cold weather very much thats the only problem Ive ever had with them.
  9. I was just wondering if anyone has a good test for testing the u-joints on the front axle, Ive been hearing a clunk on the drivers side when turning hard left. Everything else is brand new in the front end....... I'm pretty sure its the u joints on the axle just want to know if anyone has a good test for them.
  10. all right ill give it the old collage try!
  11. I'm not a big offroader and use my truck as my daily driver so having the cad being able to disengage will save a little wear and tear on the front end and gas (even though its not much)
  12. schucks oreilly has one 25.99 type 1 part number CA8515 and theres another type 1 part number CA8516 If you have a local schucks or an oreillys they will have a discription on there computer what the difference is. Or give there website a try
  13. I'm sick of my vacuum switch on my d30 and I want to know if anyone has been using a posi lok cable engagement and if they had any long term problems with them? I know that I can lock the axle permanently but I was wanting to avoid that. And possibly if someone has a posi lok #920 setup for sell that I can get for cheap??
  14. That would be nice to see an old mj 2.5 a turbo, but how will you tune it? I havent seen a fuel controller for our old pickups
  15. The internet is probably your best source but searching is involved. There are performance parts for the 2.5 I know mopar makes three different cams, yella terra makes roller rockers and also mopar, borla and pace setter makes headers and ceramic pistons are very easy to get from multiple companies. For some reason they don't list the comanche just jeep 2.5 or wrangler 2.5 thats why it can me a little difficult to find parts.
  16. Well did compression check compression still in spec but on the low end......got a new pcv and got a new breather filter. And seemed to help at the moment but I will start saving some money to rebuild the old four banger, but hopefully she will last a few more years.
  17. my 2.5 did the exact thing... my problem was the crankshaft position sensor check the AC voltage coming from it with a multi meter while cranking the engine (of course when your truck won't start) if no ac voltage its bad. Its a common problem on jeeps
  18. good point eagle didnt even think about that....... I will do a compression check
  19. not be a smart @$$ but if it started after the tires got balanced Id think that would be the problem, maybe who balanced them fd up?
  20. yeah get a manual and leave it in forth.....giggity giggity alright
  21. Has anyone found a oil cap that doesnt leak? Ive tried a few with no luck, so here I am.... :help: fyi I have the 86 2.5 not sure if there are any differences in later years
  22. Ive done the old spray can paint job before with great results, my trick besides prep and a clean enviroment and a warm day is heat up the can a bit like set it in the direct sunlight for a while it helps the can spray better and when the can starts getting low stop using it to prevent a crappy spray pattern...good luck!
  23. The best bang for your buck is a header, exhaust manifolds are used because 1 they are cheap to make 2 to lower exhaust noise 3 exhaust scavenging (or lack there of) for emissons. Anyway it comes down to what you are doing with your truck, if this is your daily driver Id recommend getting rid of the manifold as long as you don't have to get emission checks every few years. If youre worried about torque and still want a header just get a shorter primary. Google this...... Banks header GBE 51316 This one costs more but it maybe a better of both worlds kinda thing.
  24. I've had a set of pacesetter headers part number 70-1137 (on ebay for 170.)for the 2.5 wrangler laying around waiting to be put on my 86 2.5 (just moved to CA and gotta smog it first). I chose the pace setter header cause of the long primary tubing. There are shorter primary headers that may bolt right to existing down tube like clifford performance. From what I have seen is all the 2.5 manifolds 95 and prior are the same so the headers will bolt up to the 86 head but there are some small problems that i have seen with the pace setter but nothing serious. From what I can tell you will lose the egr, then the o2 sensor will b located further down the exhaust so some wire splicing will need to be done, then the power steering bracket will need to be trimmed a little, and the down pipe comes a inch or two short of bolting up to the catalytic converter. Just a little exhaust fabrication will take care of that. I will post some pics and problems when I do it soon.
  25. checked the crank sensor... good resistance and ac output good.
