Lethbridge for now. Might be leaving for Red Deer any day now, though.

Maybe it can get a new name upon completion. Although, everything around here is a "Hurtin' Albertan" (seeing as how I live in Alberta), so I'd have to come up with something more original than that. ;) Thread title, I can do. Thanks for the tips! I'm keeping my eye out for the Cherokee donor. I don't have an angle grinder. I don't have very many tools at all. I need to build my collection.

Done. Feel free to head over and give me advice.

Alright, here's a build thread. Baby's an '88 2WD. It runs well. It's my main vehicle at the moment since the ex took the other car (which I still pay for... grumble grumble...). I'll have to wait until I have a second vehicle before I do much, but I need to spend the mean time learning how and planning. My short term goals are to deal with the rust and work on the interior. Also, it needs a new bumper, the driver side window doesn't roll down, and it's missing a dome light. Long term, I want to convert it to 4WD and get some nice big tires on there. I like hunting, fishing, and camping, and I need a decent off-roader. My sense of adventure tends to get me into sticky situations that I get out of OK 90% of the time, but you know, there's that 10% and sometimes I forget to bring a shovel. Or I break the shovel. First things to know: 1) I know nothing about auto repair. Absolutely nothing. I don't even know where to start. Prior to owning this truck, I didn't even know what a Comanche was. However, I love this truck more than a person ought to love a machine and I thrive in steep learning curves. In my opinion, the only reason I don't know how to work on cars is because no one ever taught me and I never tried, not because I lack the aptitude. This project will take a long time, because I'm starting from zero. If I say something stupid, please be patient and explain it to me like I'm 5. If you have any tips on how to start learning, please share! I'm a sponge. 2) I don't know why I call my truck Baby, it just keeps slipping out, so I guess that's its name. The first time I called it that, someone I was giving a ride to called it a clunker. I said, "Baby's not a clunker!" as I stroked the dash. No, I am not a fan of Dirty Dancing, although you're still not allowed to put Baby in a corner. I should have come up with something much cooler and more bad-@$$, but oh well. The bumper is welded on for some reason, so I guess I need to take out the ole hack saw? Can you spot what's missing? Previous owner patched some rust spots, but it doesn't look that good and there's more rust coming through. Ceiling sags. It came with the lady bug push-pins to keep it in. One must watch for fallen pins when sitting down (ouch)

People have always had names, but surnames are relatively recent (considering the entirety of human existence) and were mostly to keep track of lineage or so people would know something about your lineage just by introducing yourself, which is why nobility had surnames much before common people. Then they're for the government to keep track of you. Who takes whose name (or not) upon marriage varies by culture. Long story short, it's all arbitrary. It means whatever you want it to mean. People should have whatever name they damn well please. I have been given a hard time about my own last name. It is a matter of preference, not to prove a point or destroy the institution of marriage or family. That's exactly how I feel...5 guys at my job under the age of 30 are already divorced and that's already scares me because that's how most young marriages will last up to.... Yeah, getting married young is a terrible idea. I got married really young because of pressure from the religion I formerly belonged to, and now I'm getting divorced. If you manage to pick the right person, it's not so bad, but I was too young to recognize the trouble I was getting into. Anyway... I'm sure sharing a lot of personal information for a newcomer, lol. Oh well.

Someone left a note in mine once that said "Nice Whip!"

So... I got myself stuck again. Then my brother-in-law got stuck rescuing me and then I got stuck trying to rescue him. Which reminded me... My Jeep is NOT a 4x4. Which reminded me of what brought me to this forum. Also, I have graduated now and currently looking for a job. Loads of free time, but unfortunately, not much money. I don't even know where to start with my Jeep really, but I believe I will have to rip up the floor and get the rust out. Get the rust off the outside as well. The ceiling needs to be fixed as it droops down. Hmm... Maybe time to start a build thread and you guys can help me know where to get started.

The monkeys are fine, except they're not monkeys, they're apes! /wiseass I was thinking of starting a build thread, but the only thing I've done so far is replace the car deck. Might do speakers next. I have one semester left in school so I'm not going to undertake anything ambitious until that's over for sure.

That's why I'd rather buy a good old Jeep than a new one. It's the same lady. The second pic is what she looked like before I broke her heart and she took to food for consolation. It's true. BTW, how did you find my pic?!

Oooo, I want seat covers! Mine is a bench with the shifter cut-out. Then maybe I would knit myself a bitchin' stick shift cover to match. You guys have some great interiors, I will be searching the forum for threads about that. Mine's in rough shape. .

Wait, we have koolaid now? Back in my day we didn't even have stickers! Kids and their newfangled ways of creating followers. Welcome to the club, Lime. Sounds like another happy owner, good looking rig too. Seeing as how all these MJ's are popular with the college crowd and such, I'm thinking AMC just released this truck ahead of it's time. Good 'ol forward thinking AMC, make your name known long after your demise. :laughin: Can there be limeade? Har har. My college classmates also admire my truck, which I had not anticipated when I set out to buy an $800 vehicle which I only expected to last a year or two, lol. It's goin' strong, though. Can't complain one bit.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone! I'm finding this site very informative already. Yesterday I was replacing my car deck and the last guy cut the wires rather than buy an adapter, so I'm stuck figuring out what each wire is, as they are not the same colours as the wire harness for my new car deck. Sure enough, I found the info I needed on this site. I'm from Lethbridge. I was up in Red Deer camping with my son when I got stuck.

So, I was derping around the internet and I found this place. Turns out I'm not the only one who loves their Comanche! I've become sort of obsessed with mine, even though I got it totally by chance and didn't even know what a Comanche was before then. I'm a poor married student with three kids and we needed a second vehicle. Every once in a while I wish I had a truck, so I decided, hey, I'll get a truck. I told my father-in-law (who always has a few old trucks and is constantly trading them) to watch out for a truck for me. My criteria were 1) It works, and 2) under $1000. Couple weeks later, he dropped off this Comanche for $800. That was a year ago and I love my truck to pieces. I found this forum because I was looking up how to convert a 2WD to a 4WD. I was on a "road" on Crown land this summer and managed to get myself stuck. At which point I began to dig myself out. At which point my shovel broke. At which point I decided... I want big tires and all-wheel drive, lol. The interior needs work, too. The fabric of the ceiling isn't attached and hangs down onto my head, so it's currently held up with pushpins and the seat's a little rough. Some rust, but not too bad. Then I found pictures of some really cool Comanches and started drooling. Now I'm getting ambitious. I'm a total newb to cars, but I've always wanted to learn, so I've been thinking I'd have some fun with my truck. Parked on a snowdrift. Hey, no one else would park there and all the other spots were taken. Here's a pic of me being stuck. The dog was thrilled.
