  1. did not know the AX15 was a 5 speed  any other motor smaller than the 4.0L got these manual trannys AX-4 = 4 speed AX-5 = 5 speed in 87 when the 4.0L was introduced to the MJ / XJ line up these are the available manual trannys for the 4.0 BA-10/5 = 5 speed and 4wd versions had a 21 spline output shaft (and was fairly weak and tempermental) in mid 89 i beleve is when the AX-15 was introduced. AX-15 = 5 speed and 4wd versions had a 23 spline output shaft later on the AX-15 bellhousing swapped to allow an external slave i knew the 4.0 was brought into the jeep world in 87 , didn't know the AX15 had a externally mounted slave cyl, thought ax5 was the only one :dunno: Redwolf
  2. i'm just doin a 4wd convertion pete, i went through hell findin a 2.8 cause i couldn't find a 3.4, 3.1, or a 2.5 to through under my hood when i first bought my MJ, and the 2.8 might have only been used from 84-86 by chrysler but the very last year the 2.8 was used by all the motor corps was 93, remember, my 2.8 engine came out of a 93 GMC sonoma, also, what is the difference between ax4 and ax15, is one a 3 speed and ones a 4? Redwolf
  3. so if i was to stay with my AX5 tranny i couldn't have a t case mounted on it right? also why a 2.5 xj, 2.8s not avaiable in 4wd or just the torque thing from an inline engine? stayin with manual, i can't drive auto anymore lol great donor? heck that'd make for a replacement :laughin: and i know to listen to pete, from what i've read in the project forums it seems he built his mj from the ground up, Redwolf
  4. no computer? and shouldn't the shifter linkage come with the transfer case? also could i throw the dana 35c from my rear up to the front and get a dana 44 for the rear or would it have to be 2 dana 35s or does it not matter as long as front as 3,55 and the back as 3.55 (3.55 is just an example) Redwolf
  5. i got to thinkin and havin a comanche is nice but restorin it is now outta the question, it finally clicked in my head that i can't even find MJs in the junkyard that have anything i can use as a factory stock part cause even paintin is modifin so my question is, what do i need to convert my 86 2.8 2wd MJ into a 4wd, i know i need a new front axle that has a diff, a transfer case probably a new tranny and drive shaft but what else? also i don't have a computer would i have to install one? Redwolf
  6. did anyone have to cut the hole any bigger to make em fight or wire new wires or do they work with the stock wirin? Redwolf
  7. bringin this topic back to life but with a different question but bein that it deals with different comanches, why make a new thread....anyhow, my MJ when i bought it had no radio and speakers, that was the last thing i put in my truck; i was walkin there the junkyard the other day and found an MJ that had speakers in the back behind the bench seat, i took the brackets that was it, i haven't tried puttin em in my MJ yet do to the lack of speakers but do the speaker brackets go under the plastic trim, also, what different MJs had speakers in the back, MJ custom, x, pioneer, eliminator, etc? Redwolf
  8. looks folks, the point is, my lights are wired in, they cut off with the hi beams (just as VA law says), who cares if i used skido's diagram, i was only gonna use that if my truck HAD a relay, i'm NOT addin any crap under that dash if i don't have to, my lights work, they're legal and everything is still normal, end of subject, Redwolf
  9. this is what i'm talkin bout, the white thing, Image Not Found Redwolf
  10. 10-15 amp actually and i doubt that since 1 i don't do much night drivin and 2 it's for a HEADLIGHT And exactly where is this what looks like a giant white relay located? under the dash above the break pedal, Redwolf Look like the below? That's your high beam switch, not a relay. no not like that, i'll post a picture once photobucket on my phone works again in a few, Redwolf
  11. And exactly where is this what looks like a giant white relay located? under the dash above the break pedal, Redwolf
  12. since yall all said there's no relays i took my boneheaded self out to the headlights, figured out which wire powered what and traced em, found out they were all plugged into what looks like a giant white relay, my lights are now wired in to the low beams, they shut off with the hi beams, Redwolf
  13. Skidoo gave you the wiring diagram. You need to BUY two (2) relays. The way to wire your lights is to wire them according to Ski's diagram. And I don't care what you want to believe, if you have driving lights and you wire them like fog lights you will NOT be legal. eagle i'm not gettin into that arguement again, like i said earlier, my state inspector with pass em as long as they go off with the hi beams, state trooper wants em off with the hi beams, end resoult is they have to go off with the hi beams, and i have to have a headlight relay somewhere on my truck which means i should have a hi beam relay right, Redwolf
  14. i have no relays, just straight wires, my fog lights didn't come with a relay and i obviously don't know what a relay looks like for 86 (i don't even know what they look like now) but like i said, i got until may to get my fog lights right to shut off with the hi beams, i just gotta find the relay and a way to wire my lights into it to shut it off with the hi beams, Redwolf
  15. i actually have everything wired in, the light wire comin from the lights to the switch, black for a ground and grounded, and my power wire is actually wired into my fuse box for an ignition switch, and i know they look crooked, but they're adjusted right, actually when and had em checked yesterday after work Good luck on that -- there is no high beam relay. no hi beam relay?! how do the hi beams come on then? Redwolf
  16. hey now, the mission was for me to get em mounted and workin, not workin legally currect  i gotta find my hi beam relay first but that's for sunday when i'm not doin anything, trust me, they will get legally fixed :D Redwolf
  17. might as well put that bottle away, i got the lights mounted today, adjusted and everything, only thing i gotta do is add a relay to make em shut off with the hi beams, sorry for only night lights, i can have day light pictures of em tomorrow when i'm on my lunch break, Redwolf
  18. i know pete, but currect me if i'm wrong but isn't that pattern cut into the lens. Drove pass a state trooper this mornin on my way back from droppin my brother off at school, waved for him to pull into the parkin lot, he did, asked him bout my lights (bein that i had on in my truck cause i went to the state inspector next) he said i can have em wired in as long as they shut off with my hi beams, state inspector said the same thing, i think today i'll have the lights wired in and mounted :) Redwolf
  19. ok eagle ya win, i didn't read the part where it said they have to be on with hi beams, but if that's the case explain to me WHY they make white lensed fog lights that look JUST like fog lights, Redwolf
  20. check this out eagle, section 10 is on drivin lights http://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?000+reg+19VAC30-70-530 http://lis.virginia.gov/000/reg/Toc19030.htm.htm that's the home page that my state inspector refers to if anything is questioned, Redwolf
  21. 1. already have that site for my state, va, 2. i already know the law for the lights, Redwolf
  22. the lens IS the difference. fog light lenses spread the light out in a broad, wide beam (also the lenses are frequently yellow to help cut through the fog). driving lights are more focused to push the light further down the road. this means driving lights are WAY brighter in the eyes of oncoming motorists (which is why they are allowed only with the brights on) ok so i'm not missin somethin :) and dependin on what state you're in depends on weather drivin lights have to be on with hi beams, VA they have to shut off when hi beams are on, everything has to shut off when the hi beams are on, Redwolf
  23. I forgot that you're in Virginia. Do you remember when the Liberty first came out to replace the Cherokee? One of the factory options on the Libby was a set of four off-road lights mounted on the roof. Guess which state did NOT allow that option to be sold within its borders. If you guessed "Virginia," you win the game. Virginia is very strict on lights. But, even if they weren't, I don't know about Pete but I'm not going to go on a public forum and recommend to people that they knowingly break the law. The law is the law. You're going to be making your own wiring harness from scratch. It's not much more work to do it right than to do it wrong, so why not do it right? And then there's the issue of the right kind of lights. Driving lights DON'T WORK as fog lights. If you install driving lights when you want fog lights, you are WASTING TIME AND MONEY AND EFFORT. Just do it right, for Gawd's sake. Get the right lights for the job, and wire them in according to the law. Why are you now so interested in doing it completely wrong, when you started off asking us how to do it right? eagle, i'm not startin an arguement so don't take it as that but look at a set of fog lights and drivin lights by the same maker closely, the only real difference is the lense, just sayin, also acordin to a state inspector in virginia beach, he said drivin lights HAVE to go off when the hi beams are turned on, ya can only have 4 lights on with the exception of marker lights, so if ya have hi and low beams on at the same time, the drivin/fog lights have to turn off, Redwolf When you have the high and low beams on at the same time................worlds collide and you enter the 3D dimension,,, ,(FYI this can't happen....the manufacturer made it so that it is either high...or low....not both) ,My friend 3 bits of advice 1) Download Google Chrome just for the spell check 2) Re-read your posts......before you click on post......just to be sure 3) Check your facts,,,,3 times before questioning anything.......you seem to be VERY misinformed. . :MJ 1: . it is possible to have both, my dad had an old impala that had dual head lights, ya had low beams on when the lights were on then once ya clicked the hi beams to come on ya had both low and hi beams on, i'm not very misinformed, i'm just confused as to how yall say fog and drivin lights are different, the only difference i see is the lense, Redwolf
  24. these are the fog and drivin lights i've been lookin at, unless there's somethin i'm missin in the spec they're the same thing only with different lenses, Fog Lights: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_fog-light-amber-blazer_10011907-p?navigationPath=L1*14920%7CL2*15004%7CL3*15639#fragment-2 Driving Lights: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_drive-light-clear-blazer_10011905-p?searchTerm=blazer+driving+lights#fragment-2 Redwolf
