Hey guys, my wife's 4.0 is ticking actually more like tapping...not knocking.... I need to do a valve cover gasket on it... but I figure I would check with y'all to see if when I take the valve cover off if I should look for anything in particular. The noise is coming from somewhere in the head....almost positive.... I need to do a tune up on the truck, but Its leaking pretty bad from the VC so I figure I'd do this first....and the noise is embarrassing in parking lots and when I drive it to work....thanks

looks great.... 2 things... I had an 90's cherokee that the wheels were stuck on, I did the same thing you did...drove around...jumped the truck.... beat the fire out of the wheels....nothing....so I used a porta-ram... hydraulic ram used in body repair and put it between the two rims... about 8-10 tons of force and they finally popped... also on the brake pad... you might as well swap it out.... whats it cost.... 10 bucks... maybe 20.... I always buy the gold...or lifetime warranty on pads, cause you will wear through them....and then you just bring them in and they give you new ones for free...... Truck looks great...take care......

power steering revisited....is it dying...?

so pretty much that be a duh...on my part.... :doh: but would a serpentine belt make any sort of squeeling noise... Its pretty quiet -
so my power steering will sometimes cut out.... weird...but at low speeds or idle it seems to work correctly then as I accelerate and turn it will work then cut out...then work again... so steering is getting to be a little bit difficult. Any ideas, is this a pump starting to fail, a line clogged, or what????... thanks

I have to slightly disagree with you... You could special order the diesels... but you had to know the someone up there in Jeep, or D/C I bought one wrecked in Pennsylvania. It was owned by a mail carrier, who special ordered it... it has a grand total of 32000 miles... 2.5 VM motori engine...with an AX-15... I have been holding on to it....just in case...sometime down the line....who knows..... I have seen them pop up here and there on Ebay and whatnot... But to get parts...or find them on the internet...You have to search..... I might be interested in selling mine...for the right price... Pm me...thanks -

these are the worst I have ever seen... I have no idea how they got this bad...this jeep has 172 on the clock, but still has intact leather seats...and nice interior...so obviously they kept it clean .... oh well...prob. just replace them....and ad a budget 2" at the same time.... ;) -
so....my xj has some major spring problems.... negative arch, with no bumpstops left...so bad that the axle is hitting the frame causing the drivers side brake line to get crushed.... ha...this is a new one....... But here is my question...can I put a bottle jack and try to push the spring back to positive arch, will the get to a point and pop back in place...?? or just replace them.....

I am almost positive that this is a factory alarm...but no mention in any fuses or anything... I just want it disconnected.. I live in Iowa...have no need for an alarm on a 17 yr old vehicle.... wow thats old...

so just bought this 92 limited... towed it home from NJ to Iowa.... 170k but real clean...for 560 bucks... but as soon as I got it home...with the key in the ignition put the battery charger on the battery(it was dead) the car alarm started going off.. well the headlights flashed, and the doors all locked.... with the key inside... Well i broke in... but now this alarm has given me some problems... It will continually drain the battery over the course of 2-3 days... have to unlock the door all the time, it always locks itself after a certain timeout.... Any ideas on how to disconnect it, can I do that... just unhook the main brain.... I have no key fob with the jeep so all I can do is unlock and lock the drivers door to reset it... Any ideas would be great....thanks

Just replaced my Track bar, got rid of the death wobble.... but now my steering wheel is off about 30 degrees... so I believe that the new track bar was the same length... came from Advance Auto Parts.... would now be a time for an adjustable bar.. It only has a 3" lift.... and the old track bar with the lift, the steering wheel was straight.... Thanks

I live in Iowa....I and other here are seeing an increase of up to 7 mpg when we put non ethanol added gas in our vehicles... Anybody else dealing with this.... or seen any write ups on it... Just curious....

Scout Axles are 5.5" All Dana 44's from 1974-1980.... Scout II's were made from 1972-1980, so the first two years and some oddballs were Drum fronts... those would be the "undesirable" otherwise they are tough axles...The only other downside is that as the closer to 1980 they got the weirder the ratios became to try to meet with the "cafe" standards.. I have a set that have 2.30 something ratio.... Big heavy truck, with a V8 so every trick to get closer to 20mpg they took...

Iowa is a very strict state....but I found a small loop hole.... usually the tow companies will purchase from you a vehicle for scrap.... Some will purchase a vehicle with no title....that is how I have been getting rid of my vehicles..... Good Luck....

Ok, so driving home from work today and hear something dragging. Stop the MJ, look underneath, the plastic shield for the tank has broken and was dragging, not a big deal but....the shield was covered with oil.... the oil leak seems to be coming from the area between the transmission and engine... So I am assuming that the rear main seal has gone down... But here in lies the question..... I read in another post that the valve cover should be cleaned and the the CCV hole should be cleaned as well. If the CCV is not cleaned out, will it blow the rear main again...like within a week, or month, or year.... I will most likely have a shop do the RMS, but the valve cover is something that I can do with out a garage built... that will be soon... so any ideas..... thanks

ok, just bought a 92 Cherokee of ebay, sight unseen but a good deal.. 92 limited, power everything, needs only minor stuff so I was told. It was raining when I picked it up so I didn't have a chance to put a battery in it, do a tune or whatnot, I'm not upset at all, I still got a great deal.... but the motor is knocking at startup and very little at idle with a increase while accelerating, sounds like it runs strong. Ok now for the dumb question.... how long should I expect this motor to hold out. Can I run synthetic oil in it, or any other tricks to keep her running for a little bit longer....??? Thanks

poor fuel economy..why?

ok, the engine has 88k on it, so an o2 sensor is a great place to start...also probably will check the gap, is that per spark plug manufacturer or per engine requirement, if so what is it for ours... I am totally guessing at mileage per gallon, tank sending unit is operating correctly, filled it up, went from empty to full, and as I drive it drops...I need to replace the speedo cable....trip to the yard...oh well.... Thanks guys, I think that the o2 sensor will be my first step....S -
ok, there are some problems, at current the speedometer in non op...so not a clue what the actual fuel economy is..... But I filled up last night, drove about 150 miles and I am already at 1/4 tank.... could this be injectors.... just had a tuneup.... so I am at a loss.....???? help please....

No converter in the truck....well there is a piece that looks like a converter, I am assuming you mean the cat....or do you mean the torque...? I shook the exhaust hard under the truck and It touches nothing.... I dunno.....any help is appreciated... -
I have this weird noise, ie: rattle, It seems to be like someone with a hammer is tapping in a totally unrythmic way under my feet as I am driving. And also every once and a while when I shut the truck off I hear a "banging noise" Any ideas, bad transmission mount? I got under and checked everything....the transmission has movement, but I thought with the rubber mount that was normal.....the exhaust does not hit anything at all....????help...
