8.8 conversion question
driverdave replied to driverdave's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
where can I order the shock mount and what do I need to do to the 8.8 for the mj leafs to mount. -
waiting on an estimate from the welder and then set appointment for frame welding.
-
I am in the process of buying a Ford 8.8 rear end. My question is should I snag the drive shaft also or are the drive shafts the same spline as Dana 35?
-
Thank you. Do you mean in the back where the shackles mount? Mine was fine back there, my front mounts where pretty well rusted thru though. I clad everything in steel sheet. CW Sheet metal for frame repair at the front leaf spring mount? thats what I asked not the shackles, my frame is rotted around the leaf spring mount closest to cab and there is no way I would consider sheet metal for frame repair in that spot, thanks for letting me know.

very nice work, did I miss what you did about the rear leaf mounts? I have rot in the same place except my mount is now pretty much breaking off. How did you weld the frame?

1987 SB 2wd --> 4wd HO conversion

me any color except red, I have been looking around at pics and really can not decide on what color to go with, I also like alot of the 1967-1972 Mopar (dodge,chrysler,plymouth) colors, my xj is a 1972 Datsan metallic blue pearl but after 11+ yrs of that color I am staying away from most blues. -
here is what happened when I rolled forward the other day :mad: Here is why the mount let go.... If any one knows where I can buy new leaf mount plates let me know please other wise having the welding company make 4 up. The biggest problem is the passenger side frame it tight but since I need the driver side frame boxed in and the leaf mounts there I need to do the passenger side to keep it even, I might need to get the shackle mounting bracket spaced out so its even with the front mount. Learning as I go does suk but this forum makes it much easier for me to attempt some stuff I would normally look at and laugh then pay some one to do it. I signed up for welding classes, starting end of september, then I might be able to save some money on welding.

1987 SB 2wd --> 4wd HO conversion
driverdave replied to CRF136N's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Mine was red now grey primer. problem with red is for 1 it's the most expensive paint to buy for a solid color, 2 it fades fast. I like the white, I had a sample of a 1969 Spannaker White made going to spray my junk fender to see if I like it. -

Nice job so far, wish mine was finished (frame up resto no choice found frame rot , http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17152. I'm not messing with the engine yet hope that it lasts for a while but if not after reading what you did I will go with a HO xj engine was thinking about v8 swap but I don't feel like doing that much work i'm getting impatient to finish it so i can drive it finally after 6 months of staring at it and driving in the back yard lol. -
Since I have been working 14 hrs a day I haven't done a thing to this except got a couple estimates for the frame to be welded and order a sample of spannaker white paint, it's a 1969 Chrysler color, Monday I'm going to spray the fender and order my sand blaster and a new instant garage (my bro owns the one I'm using and wants me to get mj out) until I get those things i'm not going to do much... So much for a 3 month resto it's going to take a lot longer but should be worth it in the long run. I am also in the process of renting a heated garage this winter to continue doing work. I have also become the owner of a 2001 Grand Cherokee going to drive it into the ground for now, was a free ride but a heap of junk. maybe after the MJ is done I will finish the XJ the try the grand cherokee resto. Will post a few new pics tomorrow, to busy watching UFC 100 replay and Strike Force fights.....

between the rain and working tons of over time I haven't done a thing since last weekend, I got a price to patch and weld the frame was cheaper than i thought so now just need to find free time to put fuel tank back in and get it to the welder, once thats done I'm hoping to runt the brake and fuel lines then finish the bed.
-
That looks so good, I wonder how it would be cooked in a smoker I might have to try it this weekend.
-
I just got a car trailer I'm going to use to haul 3-4 atv's I'm probally going with the metric ton leafs when it's time to do the suspension.
-
It's expensive but seems worth it. I undercoated the back of the front fenders, tomorrow i'm going to fiberglass the inside of the bed body maybe priming it still have to sand a bit more.
-
I grinded/sanded the top part of the frame yesterday and put some rust preventer stuff on for now, I am trying to decide still if I should undercoat or rhino line the frame. Before After

Affliction will fold so as far as I read today Dana isn't saying much about the contracts, he said the 31st he will hold a big news conference about the deal and a espn deal in the works. Here is one of the latest articles http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news;_ylt=AltMFJRa_2H61lT0rckR9.k9Eo14?slug=ki-afflictiondone072409&prov=yhoo&type=lgns http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news;_ylt=As4zU1RFOPN7MzLCwm5ULuI9Eo14?slug=mmajunkie-UFC_announce_July_31_press&prov=mmajunkie&type=lgns

That was a great fight card, Brock kicked the crap out or Mir bad I didn't like his act at the end but hey I will watch some one destroy people that way and put up with his 30 seconds of stupidity in post fight interviews, sorry any true fan look at skills and matches, a few other fighters kind of act the way Brock does, Tito was great at it bad talking after the beat down. With Brock just having fought and Fedor was supposed to fight I think Dana should put Fedor against Carwin in UFC 101 then set up a title fight for around October, this way Fedor with his training done he is ready to fight now Carwin has a fight coming up, Carwin's fight if he wins he was supposed to fight Brock but now with fedor coming into the picture Carwin is out of the title shot for now......

I am rhino lining my floor I didn't have rot very little rust I guess from looking around I got lucky on the floors, just wish the rest of the truck wasn't so rotted.
-
Guess not I might have to get them custom made. leaf spring frame mounts.
-
Bought new brake line today, I paid the extra and picked up Copper nickle alloy line instead of steel I got a 25' roll for $40 bucks thats half price because I am real good friends with the owners, i'm going to run it this weekend if I get the frame sanded and primed. While the bed is off and upside down I'm going to fiberglass the inside of the fenders (since they were rotted bad extra protection) then I'm going to rhino line the bed. Not sure if in undercoating or rhino lining the frame.

aftermarket exhaust setups?
driverdave replied to dancome433's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If I did that it would rattle so bad I would have to install a 100 watt amp for the radio. Look nice though......... Just 100 watts? I am putting in 1200 watts soon. As Jeremy Clarkson says Power.... -
I need to get my frame welded (rot) the rot runs right up to the leaf spring mount and I tried a few places around they can't get it. any one know where I could buy new ones? I need both sides.
-
I had 4 people help me with my 6' bed, I would get 3 or 4 to take your bed off just so you don't bust your balls. I would guess it weighs 500 lbs any ways.
