  1. GaruMJ I under stand your point about why you did not try front drive shaft off test, But something is causing transfer case to load up(resistance). Its got to come off to check it and axle for resistance or binding.
  2. Sorry Jeepcomj , I probably posted on top of your post :typing: :D :agree: I also think he should try taking front drive shaft off .That might be cause of T-case vibration. U-joints are bad when the have play or loosenes but alse some times they just get stiff making them hard to turn smoothly and vibrate. Still can't make sense of noise when turning in 4wd .
  3. If the water is clear and it happens while truck is warming up thats normal after vehicle is driven it should go away untill the next cold start. The weather can have an effect on how much moisture drips out.My Ram has done this since it was new.
  4. I have to go maybe some one will have some Ideas in the morning :wavey:
  5. I keep thinking that too? If this only happend on pavement or hard dirt I would not be so surprised ,but on jack stands with all 4 wheels in air  Did you figure out if front axle gear ratio was same as rear??? you could do this by marking a spot on drive shaft and tires then spin shaft one complete turn and see how far tire marks go,then do the same for other axle and see if tires rotate the same distance. Anyhow about the only thing I can think of to check T-case is to drain oil and check it for metal bits or flakes. You might need to find a good used T-case but you need to figure out why it went bad . Do a search of this site sombody had some posts about fixing one not too long ago. Does it drive good in 2WD?? Make sure the front drive shaft splines move freely so the shaft can slide shorter when suspension compresses if not it will beat on the t-case I had that hapen on an old F250 4x4.
  6. Have you tried running it without front drive shaft it looks like they all have a fixed yoke on front so you can remove front drive shaft whithout it leaking oil all over. Did it have oil in it?
  7. What size tires does it have? when you turn are they rubbing on suspension 4-link control arms? Also with engine off trans in neutral and transfer case in neutral spin front drive shaft by hand and check for sounds, I suppose you could run engine with transfer case in neutral to see if sound changes. Because turning steering effects sound, makes me think front axle pinion is harder to turn with wheels turned, that seems to hint at an axle u-joint or differential binding or stiff. :dunno: Sounds like a transfer case problem too.
  8. I'm looking at the book and all 5 transfer cases shown have a chain in them, not sure if thats the problem just a thought. What transmission and transfer case do you have?
  9. Check oil in transfer case (Trans oil too while your there). Is front drive shaft on fixed yoke at T-case so you could remove it and re-run test on jack stands. Also with engine off trans in neutral you could spin front axle pinion or drive shaft to check for binding turn wheels re-check. Some T-case have a big wide (timming style) chain inside this chain could be worn and rubbing on case maybe :dunno:
  10. :agree: Check out the link to Randy's ring & pinoin that I put in a couple posts up ^
  11. 2WD , I'll have to get my Son to show me how to put pictures on I can't even get the computer to acknowledge that the camera is pluged in :headpop:
  12. Thanks everybody! Carnuck SR5 is'nt that a Toyota trans??? not that it'd be easier to find but would that bolt on and would stock D- shaft work??? Any way I was realy looking for parts for an AX5 Scond gear and it's shift fork got broke.
  13. This site has alot of info downloads and sells tools and parts . The big square metal thing is the diff spreader. Not many people do their own gears. http://www.ringpinion.com/ContentFrame. ... b_Done.inc
  14. Its better to have lower gearing(higher ratio number),than to high.here is a cool tire/gear ratio chart. http://4lo.com/calc/geartable.htm
  15. If the person that owned your MJ before you did change front and rear axle gears did they do the work properly setting up gears can be tricky. Also did they add a front limmited slip differential,or posi-track,or some type of locking differential? Since u-turn effects the nois, I'm thinking possibly differential side gears or axle U-joints. You could put truck up on jack stands to check front axle spin a front tire by hand and see if other side spins the oposite way.
  16. I know everybody uses something else but are their any pictures of tools:J-22888 ,and J-34603 ??? I think one is a bearing seperator not sure the other, shure would be easier to use "or equivalent" if they showed what the mystery J tools are. They are for removing bearings and some gears from trans shafts one is used with a press.I whonder if my Snap on book shows these?
  17. Pingpong thats cool! how did you mount shackle to tubes, how thick is the tube back there? Just looks like a possible weak spot, adding extra steel plates to fill in the corner might not be a bad Idea.
  18. Replace the hose.My Ram has lower hose on other side but it has a wiggle bend in it to go around the serpentine belt.If you can't find a hose to fit that try some metal tubing with shorter rubber hose conecting each end.Look at Street Rod and racing catalogs and websites.Get a bracket that holds hose to an engine bolt .
  19. :agree: with most of what has been said. Also try rotating tires (tire shop should do this anyway when they balance them).Replace trackbar and worn tie rod,buy some mono tube gas shocks.Steering stabilizer will not fix front end problems.
  20. We called that Spiralgragh in my day :D Are those true wire wheels?
  21. Well you also need compression, air intake, exhaust un cloged ,valves that work, and so on. Is the fuel old, or he might have flooded it with to much fuel.Try starting fluid? When cranking is anything coming out of tail pipe?Do these trucks have a code reader??? :dunno:
  22. 6cyl 5spd transmission,is it differant than a 4cyl trans??? Both Comanches are 1990. I have a 2WD 4cyl with AX5 I know someone with a 2WD 6cyl 5spd and I wonder if they use the same trans possibly.I am under the immpression that they don't use same trans. He lives about 45 miles away and is not sure what trans he has.
  23. I just love a happy ending,Glad you guys worked it out. :jump: I had a shop resurface it but have to fix broken shift fork and gear in trans before I can put it back in. I did check it with a straight edge before I took it in and it was a flat surface. The old clutch disk was reasonably flat on both sides. I'm going to check how flat the surface of the new preasure plate is.Hopefuly it will all work.
