I couldn't agree more. If one pops up around here, I'll let you know. -
Wtb: Light Blue Window Crank & Bull Bar

Ha! Tempting, but the visor was a major selling factor for me since it has the "little engine that could." I'll keep that in mind though. I saw an XJ with a pretty sweet visor yesterday. I'm surprised with as many of them as there are on the road, there aren't more after market visors available. :hmm: P.S. Thanks for the bump! -
:agree: My story is the same as Mr. Grumpy. I'm restoring an old Mopar, and few people think their parts are worth their weight in gold like Mopar people. :fs1: So far, this forum has been a lifesaver in useful write ups and super reasonable parts prices. I can appreciate how rare an NOS piece can be, so I'll let it slide if it's listed for Big Buxx. Try buying a brand new tail light assembly for a late model car or truck. They're up around $200, so if you HAVE to have a new part, I can see why people might be willing to pay. The eBay sellers are just taking advantage of the people who can't be bothered to type "Jeep Comanche Forum" into Google like I did. . :MJ 1: .

Thanks! I got very lucky on this one. Aside from the floor pan, I can't find any rust on this thing. It's obviously been repainted, but I can't find any patches or Bondo'd over dents. I'll see if I can snap a few pics of the engine tonight. It's pretty bone stock under there, so I didn't think anyone would care. I can't really compare it to another Jeep product other than my brother's Jeep Patriot, but I really like this truck. Definitely not fast, but it feels solid going down the road and it gets plenty of compliments almost everywhere I go. -

Yet Another Cup Holder Idea.

Thanks! Good call on the floor mounting. I think maybe if I just add some rubber to the base to provide some extra grip it should be fine. We used it tonight as is with two cups of coffee and it worked just fine from the weight of the wood and the tumblers. Success! -

Got these spiffy stickers from jeepsticker.com today. Spencer even through in a free 4 Wheel Drive decal, which is really nice of him. Sadly, I don't have a 4WD vehicle, but it's still a cool freebie. The decals seem really well made and came with a great set of instructions. Application went smoothly. I used a credit card to work out the bubbles, but the decals laid nicely, so there were very few to work out. The only negative thing I can say about the decals is it took twelve days for them to arrive, but they were absolutely worth the wait, and they really add a lot to the look of the MJ for less than $20. -

Here's my ghettofabulous DIY cupholder that I finished yesterday. -
So, here's my '86 2.5 litre, 4 speed longbed. Not anything special under the hood, but it's in nice shape for its age serves as my daily driver/parts hauler while I'm working on restoring my first car, a 1964 Plymouth Valiant. Trying to keep it nice without doing too much to it for now. Here's what I've added since I got it: Fixed the leaky clutch cylinder and (sort of) fixed the fuse box issues Fixed the busted interior lights Fixed the busted windshield washer pump Spiffy shift knob. Even more spiffy 76 antennae ball Tool box New stereo and speakers White J-e-e-p decals on the tailgate Eventual goals include: Changing out the flooring and sealing the floor pans to keep them nice. Upgrading the instrument cluster Rear axle upgrade Cold air intake Bull bar More to come!

So, I was bumping around the local Advance Auto and found this spiffy little console and the contours looked familiar. Here's what it's called if you're curious. MoblOrg Auto Cupholder. Less than $7 and made in 'Merica too. A little hacksaw... A little grind... A little extra support on the base... A Add some camouflage a'la black rattle can and some tapered head wood screws...(I'd recommend black screws, but I used what I had around.) Secure to your floor and boom. I haven't secured mine yet because I'm going to replace the flooring, but when I do, I'll probably just use some Command Strips or something. Even without any adhesive, it holds in place pretty well. Doesn't look too bad for a quick project.

Got the speedometer cable. (Thanks, Matt!) Everything else is still needed. -
I don't mind the interior in mine, although now that I've seen the Laredo trim, I'm jealous and see Terrawombat's point. I do miss power windows on occasion, but it's character building to use a crank. My cousin has no concept of crank windows. Made me feel old. Honestly, all I need to keep me happy is a good running engine, solid brakes, A/C and a decent stereo. I put in a Kenwood head unit that works with my iPhone (and runs Pandora) and two Kicker 6.5" 2 way speakers and I'm in hog heaven for less than $115. Then again, for over a decade my DD was a '64 Valiant with no A/C, a 170 Slant Six, and drums all around fed by a thimbleful of brake fluid in a single pot MC, so what do I know about creature comforts? This MJ is a freakin' Cadillac for all I know.

Built Up A Powerwheels Jeep!

Too cool! Way to make me feel bad as an uncle, though. :P I need to step up my game. Can't wait to see this develop further. -
Sweet! Love the long beds. It really changes the entire look of the truck. Nice that it came with a toolbox as well.

This is why I bought my Comanche. I needed something to move parts around, and convinced my wife that a Comanche was absolutely the best vehicle for the job. ;) The problem is, now that I finally have my own MJ, it's even harder to sock away time to work on the Valiant, because I want to play with the Comanche.
-
Mine is full of '64 Valiant right now. :laughin: Hopefully someday I'll have room for the MJ too.

Hi! I was planning to install an 88+ cluster in my 86 MJ, but I really like the look of the older one better. If you have a fully functioning cluster like the one in this picture that came from a 2.5L, I'd be interested. I'd also be happy to trade or do a partial trade with my 88-90 cluster. It has the adjustable tach, currently set for the 2.5, but I can set it for you before I send it out. Image Not Found Here's what I have. I just disassembled it and cleaned it. All connections appear sound. Needles move nicely. I've got fresh bulbs on order, so it will have all new dash bulbs shortly. No cracks or hazing in the clear plastic. The photo shows a little smearing from where I had just wiped it down with a Clorox wipe, but I went back over it with Windex and it's shiny now. Thanks!

I'm looking for a light blue manual window crank handle. Also, if anyone knows where I could get my hands on a bull bar like this one, I'd be interested. I've tried Googling them, but with no luck. I don't want to do lights or anything. I just really like the look of this simple bar. Thanks everyone! (And thanks to everyone who stepped forward with the parts I needed at very fair prices. This group is amazing.)

Ugh. Looks like there was a mid-87 swap on the speedometers, according to Geonovast, so I'll definitely be needing a new cable. No biggie. More good info here: http://comancheclub.com/topic/17557-switching-odometers-from-cluster-to-cluster/ And a really good write up here: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=921205

If it's not on the thread I linked to, it's on another one. I saw it mentioned a time or two. I'm definitely doing that.

I took mine apart last night and saw the set screw. Thanks to Vaquaro for posting this picture (http://widetrackdrive.com/temp/mj/tach-pot.jpg) in the thread below. I would have never been looking for a nylon screw head on that part of the tach. Here's the post, which has some more great info: http://comancheclub.com/topic/30426-1990-25l-gauge-cluster-swap-options/ I also noticed that my new cluster did have a Chysler part decal on it, so it's definitely post 87. Hopefully I'll get lucky like 1987Comanche and the speedo cable will fit. I doubt they'd have changed them between 86 and 87. Then again, this is AMC we're talking about. Thanks to everyone for all the cool info on this.
